Avatar m tn Triglycerides 121; Total Cholesterol 176; HDL 72; LDL 80; and VLDL 24. My doctor raised my Zorcor to 80 mg per day as I was on 40mg. My ALT was 58 which is a concern. I don't know what I am doing wrong? Have a VAP and another lipid test scheduled in 3 months. It was suggested I take (Lovaza) fish oil also but I want to wait for the new Lipid test results. Presently I am on Plavix, Lopressor, Vasotec, 81 mg asprin and the Zocor. Please advise.
Avatar m tn Just adding to above and only because I have the same problem. How can they conclude you have Atherosclerosis when it refers to: "The buildup of fats, cholesterol and other substances in and on your artery walls (plaques), which can restrict blood flow." by definition. The only thing they can see with a CT-Scan is what is referred to as "other substances" namely Calcium Phosphate depositions.
976897 tn?1379167602 Wow, after eating all that chocolate at xmas my cholesterol was 150, just in the limits. Thyroid is fine and trigs fine too. I'm surprised that eating lots of full fat cheese and drinking lots of full fat milk didn't make any difference.

214065 tn?1251288877 Total Cholesterol: A high cholesterol in the blood is a major risk factor for heart and blood vessel disease. Cholesterol in itself is not all bad, in fact, our bodies need a certain amount of this substance to function properly. However, when the level gets too high, vascular disease can result. A total cholesterol of less than 200, and an LDL Cholesterol of 100 or less is considered optimal by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.
Avatar n tn Hi, I think the HDLC is your HDL cholesterol(high density lipoprotein cholesterol). This is the "good cholesterol" in your body. Depending on your gender, there are optimal levels. For women optimal levels are often above 50, and for men above 40.
Avatar m tn The data are inconclusive and I have never heard of anyone having an increased level of cholesterol due to blood pressure meds. Your LDL is very high and HDL is low, I would considers some lifestyle changes that include diet and exercise as well as a statin to help get these numbers down because high cholesterol and high BP are two modifiable risk factors and both will be benefited by diet and exercise.
1174225 tn?1269628721 Persons with LDL cholesterol pattern A have large, buoyant LDL cholesterol particles. Individuals with pattern A are more likely to have normal blood levels of LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and triglycerides. Pattern A is usually not associated with an increased likelihood of atherosclerosis. Persons with LDL cholesterol pattern B have predominantly small and dense LDL cholesterol particles.
Avatar f tn Consequently, the cholesterol molecules (which can’t be dissolved in the blood) will accumulate on the walls of blood vessels. The continuous accumulation of the cholesterol on blood walls will lead to atherosclerosis and plaque formation. As you can see, the higher the level of LDL, the faster will be the process of atherosclerosis. However, some people might have high readings of both LDL and HDL, so the process would not happen quickly. This is the role of HDL/LDL ratio.
225237 tn?1333138999 Your numbers are not too bad, however your HDL should be over 50 so that needs some attention. HDL (good Cholesterol) binds with LDL (bad cholesterol) to take it back to the liver to be removed or recycled. You should ask your doctor about Omega 3 fatty acids which help increase HDL as can Niacin. Also, exercise increases HDL, but please talk to your doctor before you start a new exercise routine.
10359420 tn?1409594086 I thought the question was asking how quickly cholesterol builds up in the blood. This is far different from asking how quickly disease takes to form and grow.
225237 tn?1333138999 I do take a low dose of lisinopril which keeps my bp regulated, Metformin Er for the pre-diabetic which is under control and I have not taken anything for the cholesterol (it scares me to death) My cholesterol was total 227; tri 163; hdl 38; ldl 161 and vldl 33. My problem is I don't think my cholesterol is that bad and she didn't give me a chance to get it down with exercise before prescribing me medication!
Avatar m tn However, raw eggs actually help fight cholesterol because raw egg yolks contain the best quality lecithin of any food, and lecithin helps liquefy cholesterol and keep it moving. Remember, cholesterol by itself isn't dangerous, it's only when it oxidizes that it is. I don't think the latest research backs up such a strict restriction on egg consumption.
