Avatar m tn The data are inconclusive and I have never heard of anyone having an increased level of cholesterol due to blood pressure meds. Your LDL is very high and HDL is low, I would considers some lifestyle changes that include diet and exercise as well as a statin to help get these numbers down because high cholesterol and high BP are two modifiable risk factors and both will be benefited by diet and exercise.
Avatar f tn Anyways, been feeling off lately, so went to take a blood test. Doc said i have viral infection in my liver and also high cholesterol. Please see below for my concerns- I'm not sure what all my results mean, and was hoping could get a second opinion: -my white cell count is lower at 3.9 (normal is 4-11), and so is my lymphocytes is at 1.07 (normal is 1.5-4)- is this something to be worried about? -total protein is higher than normal at 8.4 (normal is 6.0-8.
Avatar n tn Help me understand - what are the units of cholesterol in? I am not familiar with values of 5.2 or 5.8 - also is this total cholesterol? Usually these numbers are more like in the 100-200 range so I am just a little confused. Your GGT is a little high, but what are your AST, ALT, and Alk Phos values? If those values are normal I wouldn't stress. Did you drink a day or two before you got your lab workup - if so it could just be a little spike from that (and thus no concern).
Avatar m tn I am not sure what you mean by tot colost, did you mean cholesterol? If so, a high cholesterol should be followed up with a lipid test (blood test), to see if you have "good" or "bad" cholesterol. SGPT can be elevated for any number of reasons, some dangerous, some not all. Because your SGPT is high, you should follow up with a hepatitis panel to rule out liver disease. Hope that helps, and good luck.

594189 tn?1386916607 Elaine -- I checked out that site -- I only scored 61%, but I think that was based on the fact that my cholesterol levels didn't read the units they wanted, so the advice was to get to the doctor right away; however, my latest cholesterol readings are, in fact, in the normal range. I'm going to book mark the site, so I can check it out more fully. Lori -- you can try a quick google search for "foods that lower blood pressure". I did it brought up all kinds of info.
Avatar f tn I could use some advise. My yearly blood tersts showed a Vitamin D deficiency.I am currently on 50,000 units of Vitamin D therapy for 8 weeks. How much should I take after that time? I have noticed my joints and muscles get sore after exercise, and I now have a groin pull from vigorous leg exercises. I am a 64 yr. old woman, which I know is a contributing factor to joint stiffness. I use a sunscreen daily(allergy to sun) and am on HBP med, cholesterol, aspirin, and anxiety meds, plus a fluid pill.

Avatar m tn A complete assessment may be needed to rule out other possible causes like a glomerular (involvement of kidney units) disease. Blood tests for cholesterol levels, fasting blood sugar and determination of blood pressure levels to rule out hypertension may be necessary. A repeat urinalysis may be called for and management may take from there.
Avatar f tn sugar, uric acid, potassium, cholesterol and SGPT results were within normal levels. While the normal range of values for SGPT is from 7 to 56 units per liter of serum, it is recommended that the reference range for this particular laboratory be used since technique and protocols used by different laboratories are usually considered. SGOT and SGPT are sensitive indicators of liver damage or injury from different types of diseases.
384863 tn?1224749755 That is important because as extra insulin floats around in your bloodstream it can act as a free radical and hold onto sodium (making water retention worse and increasing blood pressure) and damaging the blood vessels. Damaged blood vessels cause a build up of cholesterol cutting off circulation in the small blood vessels such as the eyes and skin. If it is any consolation you are taking quite a bit less insulin than many type 2's so do not worry if you have to increase your dose.

Avatar m tn These are excellent lab results: your blood count, electrolytes, and glucose are all normal, and your cholesterol is great. Is there something specific you were worried about? The only abnormal lab value I saw on there was your low Vitamin D level. This is very common and easily repleted. Normally, our bodies get Vitamin D through exposure to sunlight as well as a few sources of dietary intake (fish, eggs, cod liver oil).
