My doctor is telling me to give my 7 year old Zantac for a kidney infection, but I can't find any information on whether or not this is a proper treatment- I just want to be sure??
Samantha is a nearly 18 years old bichon fries and was diagnosed with kidney failure on Oct 2. She has good days and bad days. Sam has been on daily IV fluids since Oct. She takes zantac, vitamins, cranberry, denamarin and anti phosphorous medicine twice daily. She has lost considerable weight and lately has become disinterested in food. I am supplementing her kittle intake of food with nutrical. That's the bad news.

Phosphate binder. I am wondering if Tripsy is safe to use and does it help kidney disease symptoms or is it a waste of money?
If all the blood work looked good it means that the liver and kidney functions should be normal since the liver and kidney functions are usually checked when routine blood work is performed.
Have X-Rays been performed? These are usually done prior to having an ultrasound done. An ultrasound is not invasive and could give you some good information, however, it can be costly.
Have you tried giving her pepcid or zantac when she first gets up?

having pains in my stomach and sometimes in my testicles ans also my left side, Feel blowted all the time. been a full week now...doc gave me Zantac 150, but im not sure if he is right.
My OB said I.could.take Zantac daily cuz my heartburn is so bad. I can still tame tums too when it gets bad. Good luck HB *****!
I had really bad acid reflux with my first pregnancy. I took Zantac (which was approved by my doctor and on the approved list). It was a life saver. Try avoiding spicy and greasy foods and eat small meals. Also sit up for at least a half hour before laying down. Make sure you dont take too many Tums.... they contain calcium and too much calcium can form kidney stones. Good luck. .. Hope you find something that works for you!
Have you tried taking a pepcid or zantac? It may be acid reflux. I had horrible acid reflux throughout all three of my pregnancies. By my 3rd pregnancy, I was on prescription meds for it. Both pepcid and zantac over the counter were on my safe meds list. As was tums. If it is not on your safe list, you might want to call your OB to see if you can take it.
I took her to the vet on Friday because she just wont eat...play....nothing. He ran blood work said she is in kidney failure...WHY...?? Anyway she has been at the vets since Friday on intervenous fluids & antibotics....Today Vet said bloodwork has not improved//// wants to know if I want to put her to sleep.OMG I am soo upset I cant think straight...Just lost my husband, now my doggie? I am thinking of bringing her home to pass here...
I don't have gallstones but I do have kidney stones lol. One in each kidney and the bigger I get the more they hurt!!!!
Zantac 75 has worked well for me. That and eating more frequently, with much smaller meal sizes.
