Avatar f tn Hi...Gabapentin is not a generic for Lyrica, but Neurontin...Lyrica is used to treat Fibromyalgia....and many times chiari is mis-dx'd as Fibro...the symptoms for chiari r similar to many diff conditions which is y getting a dx can be diff and many drs r more familiar with the other conditions then they r with chiari, so they feel it can not be chiari. http://www.google.com/url?url=http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
1359227 tn?1282522148 Now I have unexplained full body nerve pain and it brings the pain down from a 10 to a 6 on most days and my dose is slowly being raised, so I suspect I will soon be relieved of the full body nerve pain. Thankfully gabapentin is the generic for neurontin, so if your pharmacy gives you the generic and you have decent insurance, you're only out a couple of bucks and a few days of pain if it doesn't work for you and then you can just try something else.
Avatar f tn You can also talk to your doctor about Topamax (generic is Topiramate). I was on that for several years and did better than anything else but my neuro wanted me off it, so I agreed to go with the Duloxetine. There are options.
Avatar m tn With my insurance I pay $5 for 90 of the 600mg gabapentin. Without insurance it costs $120 for the 90. That is at Wal-Greens and I know there prices are quite a bit higher than many pharmacies. I would talk it over with your doctor to see what he/she says.
Avatar m tn Neurotin (generic, gabapentin) is NOT classified as an ADDICTIVE substance. I have just recently weaned off of gabapentin.....off 51 days now. I was prescribed the med to help with nerve pain and nerve damage. (some of it is permanent now) If you read up on it, you will find that it effects people differently. I DO feel like it helped me when I had blown out discs, no insurance and constant compression on my nerves like a live wire!.
Avatar m tn Trilipix is 184USD, Crestor is 189USD, and even generic gabapentin is 154USD. Lexapro is about 140UDS. Generic Klonopin is about 10USD. Remeron is about the same. And Inderal is 4USD. This is all per month, and I need every one of them. How can I keep affording this when my parents are gone?!?!
Avatar n tn I have taken tramodol for five years for my neuropathy and I swear by it!
Avatar m tn I take gabapentin (the brand name here is also Neurontin, but it is now available in the U.S. as the generic gabapentin.) I take it for nerve pain as well. Some folks say it helps getting off opiates, but there is no way to avoid feeling sick when you finally stop them. Gabapentin has been largely replaced by Lyrica in the States (a long story..its basically the same drug.
Avatar n tn What I forget to ask is what time of day/night it is best to take the Gabapentin capsules. My RLS is (was) bad in the evenings & through the night. Perhaps I need to be on these for a few days to get the full effects - I can't sleep tonight hence my searching the interweb for any help or advice.
Avatar f tn I have been on Gabapentin for years. It is a generic for Neurontin, which is prescribed as an anti-seizure med, but off label is prescribed for nerve pain. It usually takes higher doses for nerve pain. I was taking 900 mg per day, 3 am, 3 noon, and 3 nightly. Now I take 3 at night and 2 during the day. I am on other pain meds to help with the pain from 2-level cervical disc herniation and multi-level DDD and radiculopathy in my arm, hand, back and leg.
Avatar f tn This is the most common side effect of gabapentin. Some say it's more common with the generic than the Neurontin, but I don't know firsthand, but it does interest me as my psychiatrist wants to try Neurontin on me next.
Avatar f tn I wish more doctors would prescribe gabapentin for people going through withdrawals. I know you don't want to change one drug for another but from what i read it is not habit forming. I now we've all heard that before though! I wasn't on it long enough so I can't say for sure. What I can say it was amazing how much easier withdrawals were. I have detoxed 6 times and this last time took the gabapentin. What a difference it made! Congrats on going at it again.
211940 tn?1267881266 If you don't have insurance, look for rx drugs that are available in generic formula. I don't know what kind of pain you have, but neurontin is available as a generic (gabapentin) and it's very inexpensive. I think I paid ~ $4/month with insurance. Even w/o insurance it still probably won't cost more than buying a months' supply of ibuprofin. Good luck.
1147125 tn?1265114765 September??? Wow! Where do you live? If you lived near me, I could get you in to my pain clinic next week.....because I work there. But, we aren't scheduled out that far. There is no way they can expect you to wait. Isn't gabapentin the same as neurontin? Neurontin made me feel like I had a bottomless pit and I couldn't quit eating. I have been looking and searching for a "FIX" for 4 years. No one can even figure out what is all causing my pain. That is very frustrating.
Avatar m tn Can someone tell me what Gabapentin or tizanidine is? What its used for and will it help with suboxone withdrawals? Any info would help. Thanks.
189269 tn?1189755825 I'm on Gabapentin also (for depression... Gab's a generic Neurontin) in combo with Paxil. I never noticed itching increase when she added Gab, but was kind of 'out of it' and bipolar like at the time. I asked about the itching and the doc said it was from the treatment (Pegasys/Ribavirin) drying out my skin so much. Got some relief by using lotion (Aveno baby - no added colors or perfumes).
1805240 tn?1317228731 Lyrica is sometimes considered a stronger form of gabapentin. Gabapentin is generic for Neurontin and Lyrica is brand name for Pregabalin. There have been several posts online from patients taking Lyrica, saying that the side effects are more severe than with Gabapentin. I have never tried Lyrica so I don't know if that would be the case for me. Everyone is different though.
Avatar f tn This is a very old thread regarding Gabapentin. I assume that is the drug that is being ordered for you at 400mg. Pain and swelling of the extremities can be a side effect of the medication, Gabapentin. Some ppl develop side effects such as swelling while others do not. I encourage you to discuss this with your prescribing medical provider. It's important to to determine what is causing the swelling. It may or may not be the Gabapentin. Only your PCP can help you uncover the cause.
1645454 tn?1301109800 Am currently taking 300 mgs Gabapentin q 4 hrs for Trigeminal Neuralgia and now, severe neuropathy from knees to feet. While it helps with the TN, it's not helping with the neuropathy. So, am going to try Lyrica. My question is: what would the same dosage of Lyrica be? The doc just told me 100 mgs Lyrica 3X a day?
Avatar f tn With the 3 medical issues you have going on, I can see why your dr would want to try neurotin (gabapentin is the generic name). It may well help with your fibro, your neuropathy, any nerve pain in your back and a side benefit CAN be sleep, too (at least when you first go on gabapentin). They usually have you take your first dose at night because it can make you sleepy.
