Avatar f tn With anything though I would only take it as long as you have too. If on it for awhile it does have to be tapered off of. When you do a search for it type in gabapentin, the generic name. It brings up much more information on it. Maybe call a pharmacist and ask them. The should have the better answers about it. Best of luck and let me know how it works for you!
Avatar f tn i have been taking gabapentin for about 3 months now for a pain in the neck, head and eye which i have had for 8 months, a week ago i started waking up and feeling sick, very gassy and burping most of the day with my stomach making gassy noises, i have upset stomach every morning too.
Avatar f tn In my personal experience, about 15 years ago,I was on Neurontin ( GABA ) for 4 years. It was prescribed to me for pain along with an opioid. It worked nicely. I am unaware of Neurontin being prescribed for sleep. There is one caution: although every person is different, I found this medication extremely difficult to withdrawal from, even tapering. If you have concerns speak with your Dr.
Avatar f tn ve been taking it for two years, and I also started out on Lyrica, but becuz of cost I had to switch. Neurontin has only been around for about 15 years, so for at least for that length of time you're good. The only normal wierdness I know about is withdrawals, so you have to taper slowly over several weeks' time. I should think if this medicine is fogging up your day to where it bothers you or you cannot get used to it, your doc may need to switch to a different pain reliever.
Avatar m tn I take gabapentin (the brand name here is also Neurontin, but it is now available in the U.S. as the generic gabapentin.) I take it for nerve pain as well. Some folks say it helps getting off opiates, but there is no way to avoid feeling sick when you finally stop them. Gabapentin has been largely replaced by Lyrica in the States (a long story..its basically the same drug.
620923 tn?1452915648 Hi Laura, I am so glad u r moving forward....that's a good sign.I was on gabapentin the generic for neurontin....it did not help my HA's and it gave me other side effects , so I had to stop taking it. Everyone is diff , so give it the time ur dr suggested...if u have ne changes in how u feel report it to ur dr. The flow study will be a great test to get done...y 6 months tho??This is a slow moving process to deal with the medical community isn't it??
1645454 tn?1301109800 Am currently taking 300 mgs Gabapentin q 4 hrs for Trigeminal Neuralgia and now, severe neuropathy from knees to feet. While it helps with the TN, it's not helping with the neuropathy. So, am going to try Lyrica. My question is: what would the same dosage of Lyrica be? The doc just told me 100 mgs Lyrica 3X a day?
684676 tn?1503186663 I take Gabapentin (generic) for nerve pain. It does NOT get me "high" although the first time I ever took it I felt very wobbly....it wasn't a pleasant feeling, and it went away after that first dose. It helps me tremendously with my condition, however stopping it suddenly can increase risk of seizure. Although not common, it is wise to taper down from it. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn My 10 year old son was perscribed gabapentin/neurontin (in combination with a few other drugs) for his nerve pain. It definitely helped but the side affects are a huge trade-off. He gained a considerable amount of weight too but I attruibuted that mostly to the fact that all he did was eat, sleep & be foggy - and wasn't able to be his normal active self. He's since been off the meds and the weight has come off too as he's now able to resume most his normal activities.
5333788 tn?1366569346 I do take gabapentin. The generic neurontin. It is amazing for my pain. My doctor had me on 300mg 3x a day. I got so depressed I couldn't function. Not to mention I gained 14 pounds in 2 months. I went down to 300mg 2x a day. I still was so lethargic. What good is it to not have pain if you still don't get off the couch. I have since gone to 300mg at bedtime. I take norco 10/325 during the day. The depression has lifted and my pain is manageable. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn Catalogue of side effects for the anticonvulsant Neurontin - generic Gabapentin - which is sometimes prescribed as a mood stabilizer in the treatment of bipolar disorder.
Avatar f tn Hi...Gabapentin is not a generic for Lyrica, but Neurontin...Lyrica is used to treat Fibromyalgia....and many times chiari is mis-dx'd as Fibro...the symptoms for chiari r similar to many diff conditions which is y getting a dx can be diff and many drs r more familiar with the other conditions then they r with chiari, so they feel it can not be chiari. http://www.google.com/url?url=http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
172023 tn?1334672284 If you are a self pay patient, you know how expensive Neurontin (gabapentin) is. My dosage is 600mg twice a day. CVS wanted $218 for a thirty day supply (60 tablets, 600mg each). Walmart wanted $110. But get this...the curious pharmacy tech looked up the price of 300mg capsules....$13 for a thirty day supply, 300mg, two capsules twice a day (equals one 600mg tab taken twice a day). Can you freaking believe that???? $110 for the 600mg, $13 for 300mg.
Avatar m tn s working which it appears to be. I am taking the Gabapentin (generic form). My insurance insists on generic unless otherwise noted. I have also been on Avonex for 9 years.
1983221 tn?1333506185 I also applaud Gabapentin (neurontin) it works well for me also but does take some tapering or getting used to, I should say
189269 tn?1189755825 I'm on Gabapentin also (for depression... Gab's a generic Neurontin) in combo with Paxil. I never noticed itching increase when she added Gab, but was kind of 'out of it' and bipolar like at the time. I asked about the itching and the doc said it was from the treatment (Pegasys/Ribavirin) drying out my skin so much. Got some relief by using lotion (Aveno baby - no added colors or perfumes).
Avatar f tn Looking for people's experiences with Neurontin 1) in general and 2) specifically if its helpful for withdrawal. The poll is for people's experiences using Neurontin during withdrawal - not necessarily FOR withdrawal but just if you used during. lso let me know if you feel like it, what it actually helped with. If you have other experiences with it, please comment on this post and let me know. I was prescribed it weeks ago for facial pain, but I havent filled it.
1310035 tn?1305621642 Neurontin (brand name for gabapentin) helps with nerve pain. It is very commonly used in MS. Another med for this purpose is Lyrica. If one doesn't work or the side efffects are too much, then the other can be tried, but the two are very similar. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn I just posted asking others about "Neurontin". Gabapentin is the generic name and main ingredient in Neurontin. (Like hydrocodone is for Loracet - not trying to compare apples to oranges, just terms...) ANYWAY, my dr. prescribed it to me for the aching legs at night. I asked him if it would make me more tired. He said that WAS the down side to it...that it COULD make you MORE tired, even the next day. I'm going to try not to take it unless I have to.
2033870 tn?1329481339 I have rapid cycling bipolar as well as post traumatic stress disorder. He has me on Xanax for anxiety, Zoloft and Neurontin for mood stabilizer. Can anyone tell me what they think of Neurontin and if it words? I am very intrigued to know if I am on a good medicine or if this isn't good. I don't go back to him for 3 weeks.
1831849 tn?1383228392 I have been on gabapentin for 2 months, It helps somewhat with pain, it helped me to sleep very sound, until this week, I can't seem to get to sleep and awake alot during the night.
Avatar f tn Hi All!! I have heard that gabapentin/neurontin is helpful with withdrawls from vicoden...I was wondering if anyone has used this while in withdrawl and if it did indeed help make withdrawls a little easier? Thank you for your help..I am currently trying to taper off vicoden..
Avatar f tn I understand that it can take several weeks for Gabapentin to start working, and indeed, to find the right dosage level for you! I have only been taking it for about a month now....so still early days :) I look forward to living without pain. :) I understand that you talk to a lot of people here, and it is not possible to remember everyone's individual health issues. I suffer from daily/constant upper abdominal pain.
