With anything though I would only take it as long as you have too. If on it for awhile it does have to be tapered off of. When you do a search for it type in gabapentin, the generic name. i have been taking gabapentin for about 3 months now for a pain in the neck, head and eye which i have had for 8 months, a week ago i started waking up and feeling sick, very gassy and burping most of the day with my stomach making gassy noises, i have upset stomach every morning too.
In my personal experience,about 15 years ago,I was on Neurontin ( GABA ) for 4 years. It was prescribed to me for pain along with an opioid. It worked nicely. I am unaware of Neurontin being prescribed for sleep.
There is one caution: although every person is different, I found this medication extremely difficult to withdrawal from,even tapering. If you have concerns speak with your Dr.

I should think if this medicine is fogging up your day to where it bothers you or you cannot get used to it, your doc may need to switch to a different pain reliever.
I take gabapentin (the brand name here is also Neurontin, but it is now available in the U.S. as the generic gabapentin.) I take it for nerve pain as well. Some folks say it helps getting off opiates, but there is no way to avoid feeling sick when you finally stop them.

My 10 year old son was perscribed gabapentin/neurontin (in combination with a few other drugs) for his nerve pain. It definitely helped but the side affects are a huge trade-off. He gained a considerable amount of weight too but I attruibuted that mostly to the fact that all he did was eat, sleep & be foggy - and wasn't able to be his normal active self. He's since been off the meds and the weight has come off too as he's now able to resume most his normal activities.

Hi...Gabapentin is not a generic for Lyrica, but Neurontin...Lyrica is used to treat Fibromyalgia....and many times chiari is mis-dx'd as Fibro...the symptoms for chiari r similar to many diff conditions which is y getting a dx can be diff and many drs r more familiar with the other conditions then they r with chiari, so they feel it can not be chiari.

s working which it appears to be. I am taking the Gabapentin (generic form). My insurance insists on generic unless otherwise noted. I have also been on Avonex for 9 years.
Looking for people's experiences with Neurontin 1) in general and 2) specifically if its helpful for withdrawal. The poll is for people's experiences using Neurontin during withdrawal - not necessarily FOR withdrawal but just if you used during. lso let me know if you feel like it, what it actually helped with.

I was prescribed it weeks ago for facial pain, but I havent filled it.
I just posted asking others about "Neurontin". Gabapentin is the generic name and main ingredient in Neurontin. (Like hydrocodone is for Loracet - not trying to compare apples to oranges, just terms...) ANYWAY, my dr. prescribed it to me for the aching legs at night. I asked him if it would make me more tired. He said that WAS the down side to it...that it COULD make you MORE tired, even the next day. I'm going to try not to take it unless I have to.
Hi All!! I have heard that gabapentin/neurontin is helpful with withdrawls from vicoden...I was wondering if anyone has used this while in withdrawl and if it did indeed help make withdrawls a little easier? Thank you for your help..I am currently trying to taper off vicoden..
I understand that it can take several weeks for Gabapentin to start working, and indeed, to find the right dosage level for you! I have only been taking it for about a month now....so still early days :)
