Common Questions and Answers about Gabapentin and heart disease

neurontin

Avatar f tn I have tried multiple meds such as antidepressants and Gabapentin... always have had multiple side effects. Things like heart palpitation's, anziety and vision troubles. I can take xanax and Soma with no problems. My question is "could it be the Armour Thyroid that I take that causes the trouble?" I also have a movement disorder labeled as tremors/non-epileptic seizures which also gets worse with antidepressants.
Avatar f tn Medications offered can include the immunosuppressant prednisone, intravenous gamma globulin (IVIG), anticonvulsants such as gabapentin or gabitril and antiviral medication, amongst others, according to the underlying cause. In some cases, rocking the head from side to side will painlessly remove the "pins and needles" sensation in less than a minute. A tingly hand or arm is often the result of compression in the bundle of nerves in the neck.
Avatar f tn The other day, I went to a Christmas party and left the gabapentin at home, so I missed a dose. I got a horrible stomach ache that night and was miserable. The next day, I took the medicine, and the stomach aches are gone. i also have gotten weird vision problems when I accidentally miss a dose. The little packet that came with my medicine said there can be vision changes and GI problems if you stop taking the medicine completely without medical advice.
2010625 tn?1329372056 ll have to do some research on Gabapentin. It could very well be causing your symptoms. Do you remember if you had the heart palps before taking this med? Are you taking it because of an injury?
Avatar f tn These brain zaps almsot drove me to suicide and I am hoping that getting off the Gabapentin and taking these withdrawal meds will help. Wish me luck and good luck to you as well. Much love, brother or sister. God bless you.
Avatar m tn I've read that both tricyclic antidepressants and Ca blockers may cause gastroparesis. I have been taking those and have these symptoms, but not sure if the gastroparesis is due to the pain meds. Unfortunately, listed side effects never provide probability of the side effects. For those of you taking these drugs (or especially gabapentin) can you comment if you have this side effect?

Avatar n tn I have had three blackouts, about four seconds each (without warning) in the last 5 months. Two MRI's have been done, a heart catherization and 2 EEGs like 20 minutes each and one 24 hour videotelemetria. I am very worried because I could be anywhere at anytime and have an episode like this. I take 200mg daily of dilantin plus 1,500mg daily of gabapentin. What might be the cause of these?
874521 tn?1424116797 ) of the hips and DDD disease of the lower spine. I have terrible leg and thigh pain and take gabapentin for the neuropathy..this helps some..some days more than others. I have noticed when I take my celebrex(try not to use)..that the pain in my hips of course is less but also the thigh pain...so what I'm wondering does the inflamation in the hip joints radiate to the thighs????? this pain(thighs) somedays is excruciating. Any thoughts?
5657776 tn?1371799886 I was trying to call a friend the other day and I know her number by heart but I dialed half her number and half someone elses. I don't know how to process all that I am learning. I have spent years with drs doing test after test...xrays, cts, mris all to be told they couldn't find the cause of all my pain, memory problems, etc. I think what scares me most is the memory issues. I've learned it's called fibro fog.
Avatar f tn When I take Neurotin(Gabapentin) and it stops working, I start doubling up. I have a strong tolerance to medication as well. Just to start I have to take 2 at a time, but when it stops working I have to take 4. I'm on Oxy Morphone for pain, Neurotin, and Robaxin. Even with all of that, I still have breakthrough pain.
1296528 tn?1272524830 I have not gotten one single case of heartburn since I started the gabapentin. I used to be on 2 prilosec a day and am now down to one. That last one is more a psychological thing I think but I plan on eventually getting rid of that last prilosec at some point. Note: I have a lesion on the basel ganglia area of my brain which I have been told can affect digestion so gabapentin might not work to relieve heartburn if you do not have a lesion in this area.
Avatar f tn I am a 54 yr old male, in pretty good shape, non-smoker, non-drinker. For the past 2 years I have experienced pain in the left side of my chest with tingling in the left arm. I've seen 2 cardiologists and had a complete exam including an angiogram, showing no heart disease. Since then I've seen gastroenterologists, pulmonologists, and pain specialists. My new doctor suggested PHN and tested me for the virus anitbody, which I have.
Avatar f tn as far as I know, there is no generic version of Lyrica at this time... and Lyrica and Gabapentin are two completely different medications... if your doctor or pharmacist told you otherwise, they are incorrect. Gabapentin is generic for Neurontin, originally developed as an anti-epileptic, whereas Lyrica was developed specifically for treatment of neuropathic pain. They both work on the body's GABA receptors, but the mechanism of action is slightly different with each.
5761335 tn?1374262330 One day my my back doctor prescribed a medication to me to also help relieve my daily pain. It was GABAPENTIN 300 mg. I ran out of my regular hydrocodone fix early and I was really freaking out worried that I would have to deal with the DT's. I will be damned. The GABAPENTIN eliminated all of the DT's. No suffering what so ever. I quit cold turkey for a month without any problems other than the diareah for a week which is expected.

Avatar m tn Hello, I am new to this group. I have had more than 85 blood tests since I was diagnosed with Lyme in July of 2014. All have been negative. I have been on may drugs for pain and currently on Gabapentin for vocal cord/coughing issues and leg pain (knee, calf, left side back). I don't think it is helping much. Is anyone else on Gabapentin?
Avatar n tn I used gabapentin to detox (medically supervised) instead of Suboxone. Fortunately for me, I was a dependent rather than an addict on the substance use disorder scale. Addicts struggle with cravings after detox, dependents don't. My question, does gabapentin slow down the process of healing the brain's chemistry? Does it interfere with the brain re-establishing it's normal chemical balances?
Avatar m tn Hi Alex1665, It is a broad term for any disease of the nervous system that causes damage to the myelin sheath (protective covering that which surrounds the nerve fibers in brain and spinal cord). This causes problems with sensation, movement, cognition or other nerve functions. There are several diseases that cause this, the most commonly known one is MS ,but also vitamin B12 deficiency,Guillian Barr syndrome (peripheral nerves). Some chemicals can cause it too.

Avatar m tn I had three panic attacks this week. I went to the ER and was given Xanax. it helped with my anxiety but not my heart. I'm 19 years old-no drug history. Now i have heart palpitations, nausea, loss of apetite , anxiety the past four days! Am i withdrawing? DO i have serotonin syndrome? I went to the Er they told me I don't have serotonin syndrome but they didn't do any blood tests or heart tests. I have never experienced this in my life.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, I'm in the uk and have suffered with anxiety and a phobia of thunderstorms, I take fluoxetine and gabapentin, this anxiety is now out of hand as it's just been said that we are due for severe thunderstorms in two days time.
1580434 tn?1378596528 it did help the pain and tightness. I guess it is logical it would help with spasms, as the heart is a muscle and a heart attack is a spasm. it not heart related as there wasn't anything new going on there. so they sent me home without helping the arm problem really. today my arm is tightening up again and I was wondering what you did to help this. I do have flexeril to take but hate how it sometimes makes me feel. so what helps for you?
