I have been looking on the internet and I have found doxy is prescribed mostly for acne. So can it also be used for folliculitis? My situation is I took doxy for 11 days and then stopped for 3 days because it seemed to get a lot worse. My pharmacist convined me to go back on it because it takes a while to workand it gets worse before it gets better. Been on it for 24 days again now and it is still pretty bad, not as bad as when I first took it. Is this normal? How long will it take to clear up?
m allergic to Penicillin and Sulfa, I just finished taking Doxycycline for a week and feel better. Thanks for the information.
The vet prescribed doxycycline 100 mg twice a day for 3 weeks. My dog seems fine without any obvious symptoms. Can we just give him the doxycycline 100mg once a day instead because the medication may cause nausea/vomiting. Also after 3 weeks medication, how do you he is treated ? Any advice !

Ok.....Where do i start? about 2 months ago i noticed that i kept having to urinate like literally every 15 minutes. I didn't really think anything of it because i have always had to use the bathroom alot. Well, about two weeks ago i started having the classic symptoms of UTI, which i have gotten alot of in the past so i thought for sure that's what it was. I was out of town at the time visiting my mom, and i was desperate so i took some Septra that she had.
After 2 days later, I had burning pee,testicle pain and pink eye. Doctor gave me doxycycline for 7 days. The burning pee and testicle pain were gone.
Symptoms persisted for several days. Called dr. back. He called in a prescription for doxycycline for my husband and he started taking it. Never had any relief of symptoms. I started having redness, swelling, burning pain in my vagina and vulva. DR. did a vaginal swab culture. It came back with heavy growth of Gardnerella. STD tests negative for gonorrhea, chlamydia, trich, herpes,and HPV. Took one dose of metrogel.
My stream/flow is fine, but the pressure is always there. The Dr. put me on Doxycycline now twice a day for 10 days. What could this be at this point?
I'm on day two of the Doxycycline and I'm miserable. Haven't had any sexual contact since initial incident.

I have been on a few of the meds listed in the artIcle, and I was unaware of these conflicts, especially dairy / calcium with the tetracyclines (Doxycycline, Minocycline) & fluroquinolones (Cipro, Avelox, Levaquin).

In Europe, it is often recommended that chlamydia be treated with doxycycline for 10-14 days, whereas the recommendation in the US is for 7 days treatment. Excellent research shows that 7 days in fact is sufficient. However, the US dose of doxy is 100 mg twice daily, not once, and there are no data on 7 days treatment with only once daily doxycycline. However, it probably would be sufficient.

I think what you may be experiencing is a side effect of the steroid betamethasone. It is a very strong steroid that is not supposed to be used for fungal infections on the penis. I wish I had known this before I used it. It can also cause skin atrophy. The burning and redness is supposed to be temporary but can take several months to years to clear from what I have read. I hope you are doing well.
