His doctor allows him to have snacks up to 5 carbs in between meals without insulin because 5 carbs won't round up to equal a whole unit anyways. The best snacks that curve his appetite are pork skins, string cheese and nuts (he likes sunflower seeds).
Avatar n tn I think you're making a common mistake in thinking about food, which is that protein is good and carbs are bad. This isn't at all true -- the majority of your diet should be carbs. Vegetables, for example, the core of a healthy diet, are carbs, whereas beef is very high in fat on purpose and hard to digest despite being high in protein and so is never weight-loss food.
Tbd Are you vegetarian for any personal reason? Would you consider including other protein sources such as those from whey protein, or eggs? Maybe you could also look into a protein supplement to include with your regular meal, in a shake for example. Fruits are high in sugar. I would be looking into eating a low carb and/or ketogenic diet. It is possible to do this even if you are vegetarian, but will need quite a lot of work on food preparations and research.

How do I get my PCM to refer me to get the typing test? When I was first diagnosed her response was oh it's most likely type 2. I'm 5'7" and am not even close to being overweight.
Avatar f tn Is your doctor prescribing you Metformin? My suggestion is always to try diet, exercise and weight loss first and if those don't lower blood sugar enough then consider meds. Exercise doesn't need to be heavy. Even regular walking can lower blood sugar. There is a lot of information online about diet, but stay away from fad "diabetes diets". Basically carbs are what raise blood sugar, simple carbs raise it worse.
Avatar f tn A low carb diet consists of mainly vegetables and unprocessed meats ( no hotdogs or already made things containing meat.) Things to avoid would be grains, fruits, corn, potatoes, etc. This is really hard to do because it leaves out a lot of the sugary things in your diet, that overall, people seem to crave. However, carbs aren't all bad. A lot of the energy we get for the day comes from carbs, which makes them pretty important. Too many carbs can be a problem.

Tbd even the US CDC says cholesterol in the diet is not a concern. Also when carbs are removed from the diet then some other form of energy is needed... fat. I eat under 50 gr of carbs a day and have been since 2000.

Avatar n tn Maybe consider getting an electronic scale to measure weights instead of just estimating carbs. All carbs are listed in ingredients as the amount by weight, so a scale can give a more accurate value. Can basal rates be tweaked? Do the carb ratios on the pump need to be tweaked? Look for patterns of highs or lows, and work with your endocrinologist to make adjustments.

Avatar f tn i was treated with himulin 30/70 insulin for a years and usually my fasting sugar is high (200-400) and now my new doctor give me lantus and apidra insulin instead of himulin insulin and now my fasting sugar reaches to 215 not exceeded. Are lantus and apidra combatable for me?? and what are the side effects of them??????????

Avatar n tn If the drink has stevia why does it also have sugar? the 12gr of sugar is included in the 13gr of carbs so its not carbs "and" sugar its carbs "including" sugar. 12gr of sugar would raise my BG 50 points. I dont know what it would do to your BG.
Avatar n tn Hey there! I don't think you need to limit yourself to a certain amount of carbs per day. I would recommend trying a high protein and high fiber diet. Also try meal planning. Having a plan will ensure that you aren't going overboard on carbs, and knowing how many carbs you'll have for each meal will help you plan your bolus more correctly.
