If 3 docs say its zoster then its pretty definitely zoster. The valtrex dose given by Londres is correct for the time when the outbreak is present. In my country Valtrex is not licensed for suppression of zoster. You are taking the dose that suppresses the majority (but not all )of simplex outbreaks. The dose to treat zoster is higher than the dose to treat simplex, so I am guessing that the dose to suppress zoster may be higher than the dose to suppress simplex.
Her and I were together 7 years by this time. I tested positive for Herpes Simplex I (mouth) but was negative for Herpes Simplex II (genital). I was told by the lab that Herpes Simplex I is very common (50-80% of population) and that most people don't know they have it( like me) because they never have symptoms. I have never had cold sores or anything on my mouth. I do often get Canker sores in my mouth but it's my understanding that is not herpes.
Well the doctor I've been seeing is a dermatologist. The test he did was a blood test, I had asked if the test showed which type of herpes simplex I had but he said the test he did doesn't show that, it just shows if have herpes simplex. I already knew I had herpes simplex because I get cold sores, have gotten them since I as a child.
I have herpes simplex 1 for about 5 years. I didn't have any outbreaks after the first one for almost 2 years, and then about once a year. My doctor prescribed Valtrex to take when I have outbreaks. Recently I have had symptoms of what I though was a herpes outbreak (I just have tingling and light itching/doscomfort-I have never had an actual sore since the first outbreak) and took my the recommended dose 1000mg twice a day for 7 days.
I have only i bump on the side of the top of the crack of my butt,dr did a culture called me told me its herpes simplex virus and told me to take valtrex i took 1 pill last night and this morning i feel kinda wierd like my right eye is all messed up and side of my face feels burning i also feel nauseated and very dizzy.im afraid to take more of the med as im home alone,i have bad anxiety..
Your Doctor told you tested negative for HS2, Valtrex is a pescription medication for Herpes Simplex 2, not Herpes 1!! how can you be on it for a month since you have been diagnosed?!?! For surley your doctor didnt pescribe it ... I have never seen any websites claiming that a low sugar diet will help a viral infection of ANY herpes type.
I went to labcorp to get fully tested for STDs. Everything came back negative except herpes 2. My results were HSV 1 <0.09 and HSV 2 1.23. The Lapcorp used the Simplex 2 Igg Herpes Select Test. I have read that this could be a false negative but more likely if the HSV 1 came up positive. I have made an appointment with my GYN. Am I silly to have hope that this may be a false negative?
I have just started valtrex again (the first time had weird sides, but was also taking another medicine). My herpes outbreaks cause weird back pain, distension, gas, bloat! I have a hard time accessing the proper muscles in the pelvic floor region to have a bowel movement and feel as though I am constipated even though there is no form to my stool. I will try taking 500mg twice a day to start and see how it goes.

I am a 74 yr old female and have had sacral herpes of buttocks for over 30 yrs. If not severe i do the topical Acyclovir, if severe i get on the Valtrex immediately. The last 4 yrs it has recurred every month or so. It is now eating into my sacral nerves and i have neuralgia. Right now i have lesions and the pain shoots across both sides of the buttocks. It is creating sciatica down my legs.

your newest symptoms don't sound herpes simplex related at all. most likely a common virus that just has to run its course.
the dose for cold sores for valtrex is just a twice a day one day dose but it's not going to work for non-herpes related issues.
have you and your gf had full herpes testing at all to know who has what?
It rarely happens with herpes simplex and when it does, it occurs with the initial infection. the herpes antivirals do not cause phn either. I'd consult a different neurologist for a 2nd opinion if you are still having your all over body symptoms.
yes, you can take herpes antivirals while breast feeding :)
you can take acyclovir for a lifetime. there are no long term side effects to herpes antivirals.
At the age of 19 I was tested positive for herpes simplex 2. I am now 36 you so and have not transmitted any infection to any of my partners. Now that I am in a relationship with a guy that I absolutely adore I'm afraid that I will give him the virus. so I recently started taking Valtrex everyday for suppressant but still afraid of shedding and passing herpes to him. What is a possibility that I would do this.
I am a 25 year old female. I have been having an outbreak on my forehead and scalp almost every year since I was about 12 of what was initially diagnosed as impetigo and later as shingles. Every time I have an outbreak I take valtrex and use zovirax cream and it clears right up. It isn't as painful as most people's so I considered myself lucky. My mother has recurring shingles as well. Also, I am a lesbian. I have NEVER had sex or oral sex with a male.
Three years ago I was diagnosed with HSV but not type specific. I had a piece of my skin with the infection cut off and sent to be tested and the results were "Compatible with herpes simplex/varicella zoster viral infection." I lived 2 years with no break outs and also taking Valtrex suppressive therapy then got tested again with an IGG test and my results were HSV 1 - 0.07 and HSV 2 - 0.73 (<0.90 being negative). A year later I got tested again and my results were HSV 1 - 0.
