valtrex

127596 tn?1210922622 Rather than blowing up about it, I came home and did some research. But I was sad to find that Valtrex is only prescribed for Simplex I, Simplex II and Zosters. So I asked her about it (via instant message - is that bad?). She said she gets cold sores sometimes, and the Valtrex gets rid of them quickly. Indeed I remembered that the empty bottle was for a seven-day dosage. But in all of the times that I've seen her, I never noticed a cold sore.
Avatar n tn Is Valtrex your recommended medication for Simplex 1? It seemed that the doctor didnt even consider anything else and just wrote me the script without explaining my options. Thanks.
Avatar f tn More so with 2x daily than 1x daily dosage of Valtrex. Next month I have a regular follow up with my G. I. dr. and will mention this to him. Hope he can give me some answers.
Avatar m tn we treat herpes simplex and herpes zoster with the same medications. it's just a matter of dose.
Avatar n tn If 3 docs say its zoster then its pretty definitely zoster. The valtrex dose given by Londres is correct for the time when the outbreak is present. In my country Valtrex is not licensed for suppression of zoster. You are taking the dose that suppresses the majority (but not all )of simplex outbreaks. The dose to treat zoster is higher than the dose to treat simplex, so I am guessing that the dose to suppress zoster may be higher than the dose to suppress simplex.
Avatar n tn I have in the past from time to time has what I think are fever blisters around the corners of my mouth. Is there a test for Herpes simplex 1? I may mention this to my ENT next time I go there.
55646 tn?1263660809 Nationally, there are at least three different studies beginning for the treatment of genital herpes. First, the Genocea phase one (first in humans) trial. Instead of an oral medication to treat herpes, Genocea out of Boston has taken the approach of stimulating the immune system to respond more robustly to the herpes virus in people who are already infected with the virus.
Avatar f tn t a newly acquired infection for you. see the herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com for more info on herpes and how to treat it.
Avatar n tn valtrex only helps with herpes issues. unless you tested + for herpes being active in your eye, no reason to start valtrex. corneal ulcers are a side effect of contact wearing.
Avatar m tn Her and I were together 7 years by this time. I tested positive for Herpes Simplex I (mouth) but was negative for Herpes Simplex II (genital). I was told by the lab that Herpes Simplex I is very common (50-80% of population) and that most people don't know they have it( like me) because they never have symptoms. I have never had cold sores or anything on my mouth. I do often get Canker sores in my mouth but it's my understanding that is not herpes.
Avatar n tn Well the doctor I've been seeing is a dermatologist. The test he did was a blood test, I had asked if the test showed which type of herpes simplex I had but he said the test he did doesn't show that, it just shows if have herpes simplex. I already knew I had herpes simplex because I get cold sores, have gotten them since I as a child.
Avatar m tn I have herpes simplex 1 for about 5 years. I didn't have any outbreaks after the first one for almost 2 years, and then about once a year. My doctor prescribed Valtrex to take when I have outbreaks. Recently I have had symptoms of what I though was a herpes outbreak (I just have tingling and light itching/doscomfort-I have never had an actual sore since the first outbreak) and took my the recommended dose 1000mg twice a day for 7 days.
Avatar f tn I have only i bump on the side of the top of the crack of my butt,dr did a culture called me told me its herpes simplex virus and told me to take valtrex i took 1 pill last night and this morning i feel kinda wierd like my right eye is all messed up and side of my face feels burning i also feel nauseated and very dizzy.im afraid to take more of the med as im home alone,i have bad anxiety..
Avatar f tn Your Doctor told you tested negative for HS2, Valtrex is a pescription medication for Herpes Simplex 2, not Herpes 1!! how can you be on it for a month since you have been diagnosed?!?! For surley your doctor didnt pescribe it ... I have never seen any websites claiming that a low sugar diet will help a viral infection of ANY herpes type.
Avatar f tn t assume or you will certainly give someone HERPES for LIFE. You need to verify your hard palate sores with a herpes simplex virus culture.
Avatar m tn I went to labcorp to get fully tested for STDs. Everything came back negative except herpes 2. My results were HSV 1 <0.09 and HSV 2 1.23. The Lapcorp used the Simplex 2 Igg Herpes Select Test. I have read that this could be a false negative but more likely if the HSV 1 came up positive. I have made an appointment with my GYN. Am I silly to have hope that this may be a false negative?
Avatar n tn The way the distinction would be made is through a swab test (preferrably PCR) that would look for varicella Zoster and herpes simplex virus. Only that test is going to be able to distinguish between the two for you. My guess is zoster, but if you are concerned, this swab test can be performed.
Avatar n tn ve only had one partner so, yes, it only takes once!). Anyway, I keep reading that for suppression valtrex is once a day and acyclovir is 400 mg twice a day. My dr prescriped 800mg once a day. What's the difference, why would someone take acyclovir twice a day when they could just take it once? Is there an advantage to taking it twice a day? My second question is that when I am having an outbreak should I increase the dosage?
Avatar n tn Is this for genital herpes or herpes simplex like cold sores?
Avatar m tn My Dr. wrote a prescription for 1gm daily pill of Valtrex. I already have stomach problems and am trying to minimize potential side effects with highest drug efficacy. Seems logical to take 2 pills at 500mg/pill instead. Would this reduce stomach upset and/or improve absorption of drug? Thx in advance.
Avatar m tn It is in the same family but nothing really is the same about the virus. Herpes Simplex is different thank just Herpes Zoster. They have been working for a vaccine for ages.
Avatar m tn Which original post? I posted something about 2 months ago, is that what you mean? I actually have another question then: Since i've been in pain for 2 months, and on a pretty high dosage of valtrex, my doctor said that this may not be herpes. She actually said that i might have Vulvodynia, which is chronic pain of the vulva. She claims that it can be caused by herpes. what do you think? have you heard of this link?
Avatar m tn I have a question I'm positive for herpes type 2... My husband level 1 .... They said after u have ur outbreak u turn 2 level 2.. I just had my dauther yesterday wen I was pregnant the doctor did all the test they never told me she was gone have it.. Everything was fine...
Avatar n tn I am a 74 yr old female and have had sacral herpes of buttocks for over 30 yrs. If not severe i do the topical Acyclovir, if severe i get on the Valtrex immediately. The last 4 yrs it has recurred every month or so. It is now eating into my sacral nerves and i have neuralgia. Right now i have lesions and the pain shoots across both sides of the buttocks. It is creating sciatica down my legs.
Avatar m tn What is the maximum suppression dosage for Valtrex? One doctor told me it was 1 gram daily, but my current doctor prescribed 2 per day and said that was ok to take as long as needed. He said in an immune-compromised patient, it could be 3 grams per day as needed, but no longer-term studies have been done about it to determine the upper-limit of the max safe long-term dose. Is this the consensus opinion?
