That's the dose people take for Herpes prevention (twice daily Valtrex). As for the HIV- I'm not concerned with it obviously since I didn't mention it. "You are still panicking over a very low risk exposure." Not really. I just knew that if I took Valtrex immediately after exposure that the virus would be unable to function well with that in my body. It takes about 2 days before the virus makes its way to the Sacral Sensory Ganglion.

In the past I have had strange reactions to medications and infections including skin peeling off of my hands and feet from antibiotics and or MRSA. Within the past 2 months I began taking 500MG Valtrex daily for prophylaxis. This is now the second time within the time span that the skin on my labia and inside my vagina has become very irritated and itchy, then peeled off. My gyno was only able to see irritation as the peeling was intermittent.

Valtrex is usually for herpes infections and they usually just treat gbs with IV antibiotics when you're in labor so idk id call them back and ask why they gave you that?

After thinking about it around 12 hours later I realized I was at risk for infection. I took 1500 MG of Valtrex and will continue with 1000MG twice a day for a few more days. It makes some sense that the Valtrex could interfere with the HSV1 virus spreading from the initial infection sight to the nerves if you have Valtrex in your system prior to of soon after an initial exposure. Does anyone have any insight?

we treat herpes simplex and herpes zoster with the same medications. it's just a matter of dose.

I started taking Valtrex for Herpes2, and I feel anxious,depressed, and I have been waking up with bad headaches in the middle of the night. I don't know if it is all in my head, because I just tested postive for this, and I have been dealing with this for about 15 yrs. I am still shocked. I have been to several doctors who blew it off as a yeast infection. Does anyone know of any alternatives that work?

I have never heard of Herpes being ongoing for 2 years I think you should go back to your Doctor about this,if the lesions were swabbed and tested negative for both HSV1 and 2 then this is not genital Herpes .... the blood work would suggest you have HSV1 orally.

how long ago were you diagnosed as having hsv1 genitally? do you have a regular partner and if so, were they tested for herpes to know their own status?

I have not had any outbreaks at all, I occasionally have burning and itching, but beyond that nothing else. I have been on supressive therapy w/ Valtrex since the end of may. I have had pain on lower right abdomen, under my ribcage it feels, and pain on my right lower back. Is this a symptom of Herpes, or can this be a reaction to the Valtrex?

My doctor told me to stop taking Valtrex for a while to let my liver regenerate. While I think Valtrex is an excellent drug for treating HSV 2, I think users should take into consideration that long term use can cause some mild to moderate damage to the liver as my tests have proven. Also, anyone using Valtrex should not drink ANY alcohol while on it because it will exacerbate the problem with your liver. I'm hoping in a few weeks my liver tests go back to normal.

I get cold sores and was recently prescribed valtrex for outbreaks. Trouble is, it isn't always obvious that I'm going to have an outbreak. I'd rather be safe than sorry - but don't want to take valtrex too often if it isn't safe. Would it be a problem if I took the one day 2,000 mg maybe twice per month when I thought an outbreak might be coming on?

I have now started suppressive therapy with valtrex sinc one into...but no actual relations. Is that really the condoms that are triggering the herpes? Do I have to change an uses non latex? Is the herpes virus in my body (even dormant) near my vagina?

my partner who i met has been on Valtrex for a couple of years and the pass year we had unprotected sex. I went and got tested and my blood work came back negative. She is ok with the results and angry that she allowed me to convince her and not using condoms. I just can't explained why we did it without condoms only that I love her and we are getting marry.

that I have many places all over my body, skin tags, etc. The doctor blurts out Herpes. So he gave me Valtrex prescription, and sent me for blood tests, and took cultures, etc. I was last tested on January 11, 2011 and I am still testing negative for cultures and IgG blood tests. I read that azithomycin could be an effective cure for syphillis too? Also received valtrex as prophylaxis against herpes. Was told its too early to do any tests. Would like to know the STI risks there are (chlamydia, gnnorrhea, herpes, syphillis, HIV) especialy since there is itches/sensation. Are the symptoms are indicative of any particular STD and when to take STI tests? Very worried it could be genital herpes as symptoms are supposed to start with itching/mild burning after 2 days?

Hello, i had a hsv 1 genital outbreak about a month ago, i have had this for six years and only one outbreak since the first time, my question is, do i really need to stay on the valtrex for surpresive therapy, or would it be smarter to stay on it to avoid giving it to someone else

Since I am under the impression that I have Herpes I asked my doctor for another Valtrex prescription and the sores will not go away. Again it has been over a year. Can anybody advise of what may be going on or has this happened to anyone.
