valtrex

55646 tn?1263660809 Nationally, there are at least three different studies beginning for the treatment of genital herpes. First, the Genocea phase one (first in humans) trial. Instead of an oral medication to treat herpes, Genocea out of Boston has taken the approach of stimulating the immune system to respond more robustly to the herpes virus in people who are already infected with the virus.
Avatar m tn After thinking about it around 12 hours later I realized I was at risk for infection. I took 1500 MG of Valtrex and will continue with 1000MG twice a day for a few more days. It makes some sense that the Valtrex could interfere with the HSV1 virus spreading from the initial infection sight to the nerves if you have Valtrex in your system prior to of soon after an initial exposure. Does anyone have any insight?
Avatar m tn I was swabbed and all tests came back negative however I did test positive for hsv 1 via blood work- my question is if this were an oral herpes outbreak genitally would being on valtrex every day for 4 months have made these symptoms subside ??? Is the pain people talk about with a herpes outbreak the actual open sores that are painful or is it a generalized pain ? The pain I am experiencing is like someone has the tip of my penis in a vice...
Avatar f tn Unprotected oral sex. But I have oral herpes like I said. I’m mainly just looking for an answer about the Valtrex and the 4th generation test. I’m wondering if the Valtrex would cause the test to not be as reliable or delay the window period.
Avatar n tn I have a girlfriend who has had oral herpes for 15 years. She had an outbreak, and took Valtrex and we waited a week until the sores had healed. Then she skipped one day with the Valtrex, and the next day we had unprotected oral sex. Immediately afterward, she noticed a sore directly on her lip. This has made us both quite nervous. This second outbreak was unusual because in all the time she has had it, she has never had a "second outbreak".
Avatar f tn I have never had an oral cold sore or been tested positive for HSV1 or 2. About 6 months ago I had unprotected sex with my girlfriend who later told me that she just got off antibiotics recently for a yeast infection but she was 100% sure she didn't have any STDs and the infection was already gone.
Avatar f tn Have you been diagnosed with oral herpes? Have you had oral herpes previously, or only since this relationship began? Have you seen a health professional, and has oral herpes been professionally diagnosed or confirmed by a lab test? Have you been tested for HSV-1 and/or HSV-2? Since you have had no oral contact with your partner's genital area, if your apparent "first outbreak" indeed is herpes, most likley you have had it for a long time, i.e. not from this partner.
Avatar m tn Did your doctor swab/culture the area? It's the only way for certain to know it's herpes going on. Actually most oral herpes occurs on the lips/mouth. Here's a good resource for oral herpes, that grace also recommends. As you can see in the symptoms part, there is no mention of swollen/painful gums. Again, only a swab/culture of symptoms can diagnose. How were you tested? http://www.ashastd.org/herpes/herpes_learn_oralherpes.
Avatar m tn no it wasn't type 2 herpes inside your mouth like that!!! your newest symptoms don't sound herpes simplex related at all. most likely a common virus that just has to run its course. the dose for cold sores for valtrex is just a twice a day one day dose but it's not going to work for non-herpes related issues. have you and your gf had full herpes testing at all to know who has what?
Avatar m tn Itching for 4 months absolutely is not a symptom of oral herpes. You would have clear breaks in symptoms for weeks at a time with herpes. Continue to follow up with the dermatologist for the itching. Pay attention to what is going on with your jaw too. Are you clenching it when you are awake and asleep? as your wife is you are grinding your teeth a lot in your sleep too. odds are the stress of all of this is making you cause the pain in your jaw because of not relaxing enough.
Avatar m tn My doctor put me on valtrex 1 gram a day for three months then said to taper down to 500mg day in hopes to eventually taper down to none. Outbreaks still occurred. I have been instructed this week to take 1 gram Valtrex twice a day for 45 days. Then go back to once a day for 45 days. Is this normal? Is this safe? Am I the only one this happens to? I keep reading how rare it is to have recurrent outbreaks on gums. But it is happening. Is so much valtrex safe?
Avatar f tn I'm confused as to what types of herpes you have, so I'm breaking this down. You can receive oral sex if you have hsv1 only- though keep in mind that you can get gonorrhea and syphilis from that. Even without having had an outbreak, there is a chance you could transmit it giving oral or kissing someone. If your partner has hsv1, it's VERY unlikely you'd ever transmit it to them.
Avatar f tn Hello, i had a hsv 1 genital outbreak about a month ago, i have had this for six years and only one outbreak since the first time, my question is, do i really need to stay on the valtrex for surpresive therapy, or would it be smarter to stay on it to avoid giving it to someone else
Avatar f tn I was wondering if I can receive oral sex if I have herpes type 2. I'm taking suppressive therapy (generic of valtrex 3 times a,day). Can I still give it to him??????
Avatar f tn Valtrex reduces the risk of transmission of HSV 2 by half - should be just about as good for reducing the risk of transmitting HSV 1 as well. We do prescribe this for daily use with people who have frequently recurring cold sores and also for people who have HSV 1 who have partners who do not have HSV 1 (either oral or genital). You will shed some asymptomatically, but not a lot.
Avatar m tn Oh and her getting obs while on valtrex doesn't increase your risk. Taking the higher dose of valtrex is really for her comfort.
Avatar m tn Where? Oral or genital? Lysine is generally for oral herpes...
Avatar m tn My wife has genital herpes and is treated daily with Valtrex and she has been outbreak free for well over a year. We have been together for 3 years and have never used condoms and I am still Herpes free. My questions deal with the possibility of contracting Genital Herpes when there is no outbreak. 1) What is the risk of contracting Genital Herpes between outbreaks through oral sex? 2) What is the risk of spreading the condition to others by giving or recieving oral sex between outbreaks?
Avatar m tn Valtrex is the dominant brand name, valacylcovir the generic name. Do not take both; it would be an overdose. (Probably not harmful, but not recommended.) You get maximum effectiveness against oral herpes with the 2 g (2000 mg) dose taken twice a day apart; higher, more frequent, or more prolonged treatment will make no difference. 2) You are typical in not having an identifed trigger of your outbreaks. Most people cannot pinpoint particular events.
480554 tn?1209512559 Your chances of getting oral herpes from her genital herpes are next to nothing. Have you been tested for herpes, and does she know what type she has? She could have type 1 or 2. It won't make any difference as far as oral sex, but it will for genital sex. If she has type 2 (and we'll just assume that for now), then the chances of you getting herpes from her if all you do is avoid sex during an outbreak is 4% a year. If she is on daily valtrex, its 2% a year.
Avatar m tn I have oral hsv-1, very severely. i take valtrex almost daily when i can get a prescription, sometimes letting it slide. i am an actress so cold sores are just the worst. two years ago i wasn't taking the valtrex. i had protected sex with two partners and unprotected oral sex with the same two guys, over the course of a year. one encounter each.
Avatar n tn If a female is the recipient of oral sex on the day discomfort begins, later an ulcer develops (PCR tests neg for HSV, CMV, etc) but serum IgG test is positive (5) for HSV2, (Neg for HSV1 & HIV neg) what are the chances the partner could develop HSV2 orally? What is the latest that symptoms could appear? (Partner has swollen nodes on day 15, no mention of oral ulcers or sore throat.
127596 tn?1210922622 Rather than blowing up about it, I came home and did some research. But I was sad to find that Valtrex is only prescribed for Simplex I, Simplex II and Zosters. So I asked her about it (via instant message - is that bad?). She said she gets cold sores sometimes, and the Valtrex gets rid of them quickly. Indeed I remembered that the empty bottle was for a seven-day dosage. But in all of the times that I've seen her, I never noticed a cold sore.
Avatar f tn I will be sure to use condoms with future partners and understand that I cannot give anyone herpes from oral sex as I do not have oral herpes myself but do you suggest I refrain from receiving oral sex? In your extensive experience, have you seen individuals get oral HSV-1 from someone who have genital HSV-1. Thank you!!
