55646 tn?1263660809 Nationally, there are at least three different studies beginning for the treatment of genital herpes. First, the Genocea phase one (first in humans) trial. Instead of an oral medication to treat herpes, Genocea out of Boston has taken the approach of stimulating the immune system to respond more robustly to the herpes virus in people who are already infected with the virus.
Avatar m tn I have had genital herpes for over 12 years. Very few outbreaks - due to valtrex and some...ability to deal with stress. Now that I am under more stress and fibromyalgia/asthma, I am finding that I have had more outbreaks than I would like! Valtrex does help, but what I would really be interested in is something that is topical like an ointment, oil, etc... that can be applied directly to the genitals in order to relieve the itching/burning, etc...
Avatar f tn Could this be a side affect of the Valtrex or swelling of the genital area? My dr prescribed urispa which is a muscle relaxant for the urethra. Hopefully it will work. I also have shooting pains down my legs, shins, and feet. Is this all part of an initial outbreak? I am a female.
Avatar n tn Is this for genital herpes or herpes simplex like cold sores?
Avatar m tn for recurrences of genital herpes, valtrex is 500mg 2x/day for 3 days. no need to take the dose you were taking - it's pretty much wasting money and time :( you can stop the valtrex - this isn't your herpes reoccurring. Be sure to be seen today or tomorrow and get properly tested for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally. If you've had any recent encounter that would put you at risk for chlamydia or gonorrhea, make sure to test for those too while you are there.
Avatar f tn Just been diagnosed with genital herpes 2. Have had five recurrences in 3½ months. Valtrex 500 mg didn´t help so now I take 500 mg x 2. What about my future? Is this how it will be? Constant pain and no sex? I need hope. I have none.

Avatar m tn Where? Oral or genital? Lysine is generally for oral herpes...
Avatar f tn We know hsv1 is a major cause of genital herpes in college age students. Prior studies have shown that hsv1 genitally is the cause of 70% of all newly acquired genital herpes infections in that age group in the US. That study didn't find any hsv1+ lesion cultures so I"m not sure how it's applying to the title of their study very much.
7868606 tn?1410358984 Valtrex is usually for herpes infections and they usually just treat gbs with IV antibiotics when you're in labor so idk id call them back and ask why they gave you that?
Avatar n tn He might be taking the valtrex for oral herpes, but if you know what dose he's on, that could tell you what he's taking it for. Since you have hsv1 already, it could take up to around 6 months for you to develop antibodies, if you were exposed. Many will much sooner, but hsv1 can delay it some. There might be some protection against getting hsv2 after hsv1, but if there is, its not a lot. It would keep an hsv2 infection mild, most likely.
Avatar n tn ve been reading and see that several doctors state that it is impossible for it to be herpes if it has not broke out in the genital area. I have never had an outbreak near either part of my genitalia - THANK GOD. These outbreaks on my butt cheeks are very itchy in the beginning and if I do not start taking my Valtrex immediately will become larger and get very painful making it very hard to sit in a chair. They are always in a small circle that look like several little small circles.
Avatar n tn It is very unusual for someone with HSV 1 in one location of their body to transfer it later to another part of their body. I have not seen, in 30 years of practice, this happening. The reason is that the immune system, on alert for HSV 1, keeps this from happening. I certainly don't think this happened to you either. You have further proof from a negative swab test done by one of your doctors.
Avatar m tn She has had it for 7 years, and hasn’t had an outbreak in a year. She is on a daily 500mg dose of Valtrex. She keeps saying “I know my body” to the effect of being able to tell from the slightest of signs that it is not a good time to engage. She says that sometimes she feels something but no symptoms appear. Could this be a hidden symptom of viral shedding, a helpful sign that now is not a good time?
Avatar n tn ( they gave you the wrong dose of valtrex too. It should be 1gm 2x/day for 7-10 days since this is a newly acquired infection for you we assume. Give them a call monday and tell them to check the PDR to see that they prescribed you the wrong medication and get them to correct their mistake and give you the proper prescription.
Avatar f tn I only have hsv1 genital , i was on valtrex for the firs year then got off of it, no outbreaks until a month ago
Avatar m tn I recently had by second OB mid-June (about two weeks ago). This OB was much more mild, with just a few bumps. I took a 3 day dosage of valtrex, and it cleared up. However, only about a week after, I started my third OB which I am currently going through. This one has no actual sores or visible effects, but there is itching, burning, and a lot of tingling. Here are my questions: 1. Is it normal to have this many OBs with HSV-1?
Avatar n tn I did see an urgent care doctor last night and verified that it was a herpes outbreak. He has prescribed me 1gram of Valtrex for 1 week. He seems to think the ache in my scrotum is most likely HSV related, and the ache doesn't seem as bad today since starting my Valtrex regiment, but I don't know if that is just in my head. I also saw my normal doctor this morning to get a "second" opinion and to get put on suppression therapy as well.
Avatar f tn The tingling I am experiencing every two weeks always starts with the spot where my first cold sore appeared and several spots around my mouth. Each time it has happened I will take a high dose of the Valtrex and it takes about 12 hours for the tingling to stop. What do you think my next steps should be? I am concerned that my symptoms don’t seem typical as far as the frequency, but the tingling that is happening is very real for me.
1641422 tn?1300798618 I was diagnosed as acutely positive for Herpes Zostra NOS (shingles). The swelling seems to be much worse internally in the evening, making it difficult to sit without a great deal of pain. The doctor prescribed Prednisone, Valtrex, and Lidocaine they all help but none are stopping the evening pain making it very hard to sleep.
Avatar f tn t it cultured by your doctor- it should have been (even when experts diagnose genital herpes their clinical diagnosis is incorrect about 20% of the time). Culture is the best way to evaluate a possible outbreak of genital herpes. Second, you indicate a "mild but constant OB" . This too is very uncharacteristic of genital HSV unless you have some other chronic immunosuppressive disorder. Third, your blood test was a bit early to be completely sure what is going on.
