Common Questions and Answers about Throat cancer chemotherapy

Avatar f tn My boyfriend has just undergone chemotherapy and radiotherapy for head and neck cancer .... he has had tonsils removed, lymph glands removed and still has the sore throat when swallowing , a feeling s if there is something at the back of the throat . A few weeks ago he had a camera up the nose and down the throat and found to have a lesion on the vocal cord ...he's waiting to go have another biopsie on this , do you think this could be another case of cancer ?
Avatar n tn Unfortunately, true lung metastasis from a throat cancer means that the cancer is stage IVC, and absolute cure may sometimes be unrealistic at this point. The goal of treatment (usually chemotherapy) is palliation (control of symptoms, pain, etc.). I suggest you discuss all the options with your oncologist first. Regards and God bless..
Avatar n tn I have pressure in my throat when I lay on my back or bend over also watery eyes, dry mouth, bad taste in my mouth. I had chemotherapy for breast cancer two years ago and all this started after that.
Avatar m tn Someone I know has throat cancer from HPV that was transmitted sexually. He has recently completed his chemotherapy and he is in good enough shape to do things like drive a car, prepare meals and even work part time. He will be visiting and will most likely help prepare a family dinner. Due to the recent chemotherapy on his neck area, he is often coughing and clearing his throat.
Avatar f tn ) She had aborted her chemotherapy after two sessions. The liver cancer apparently matastasized from the colon, although they found no cancer there. I know nothing about treating the other organs, but milk thistle is well known for its ability to cleanse the liver.
1306047 tn?1333243591 Greetings. I'm curious if anyone can tell me a little about cancer of the throat. I've a strange pain in mine in the area below the adam's apple and above the sternum in that soft patch located there. I don't feel anything except for when I perform what can best be described as a guttural inhalation, such as after a hiccup or if I make it happen, which I don't because it feels so strange and foreign.

Avatar n tn Neoadjuvant chemotherapy is giving chemotherapy treatments prior to surgery to shrink a tumor and also to treat any cancer cells that may be elsewhere in the body (like adjuvant chemotherapy does after surgery). Neoadjuvant chemotherapy is not unusual treatment of large breast tumors. The number of cycles of treatment may be determined by several factors including the size of the tumor, the response to the chemotherapy etc.
Avatar f tn When given in advanced disease, it results in a response rate of 22%, a 1-year survival rate of 36% and a 2-year survival rate of 13% (Schiller, 2002), which is comparable to other Cisplatin or Carboplatin combination regimens used for lung cancer. Giving this chemotherapy offers at least a 24% increase in probability of survival compared to best supportive care (no chemotherapy is given).
403156 tn?1290150018 I have a 10 year old female golden retriever and just noticed a very large tumor on her throat, which is right where her thyroid is. The tumor is approximately the size of a lemon and it seems to be attached. I feel horrible that I did not notice it until now but it was hiding under her loose skin and long fur. I have recently noticed her stumbling and choking on her food as well.
Avatar m tn My mother had finished first cylcle of chemotherapy for the BREAST CANCER and facing a problem with a large amount of hair loss. And my question is that if she had undergone radiation treatment instead of chemotherapy is there any chance to controll the hair loss.....
Avatar f tn The treatment prescribed by your Oncologist is formulated to be the best for your specific case. Chemotherapy is always matched to the particular cancer to give the best results possible. If you are not comfortable with the opinion of your Oncologist then by all means get a second opinion. Regards ...
Avatar m tn My father has recently finished up chemotherapy and radiation for cancer found in his lymph nodes in his throat. Due to the radiation on his throat, it became extremely difficult for him to eat, and a feeding tube was put in to help him maintain his weight. Now that he is done with treatment, the feeding tube will come out but he is still having problems with eating due to the lack of saliva. His doctor basically told him he would have to deal with this for about 6 months.
Avatar f tn Then in Jan 2009, she was diagnosed wtih bone metastase and did chemotherapy. After one month of finishing chemotherapy, her ca15-3 blood result resulted 60.2. Any solutions please.Thank you This discussion is related to CA 15-3 Test.
Avatar f tn I had mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation for invasive breast cancer. I now take Armidex as I was estrogen positive. I had nineteen lymph nodes removed and radiation above my collar bone and on my throat. My question is can this treatment affect you thyroid.?
Avatar m tn Oral cancer treatment depends on a variety of factors including the type of cancer present, medical history, symptoms and overall health of patient. Chemotherapy is usually indicated and it is best that you discuss the management plan with his doctor also. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn He has opted for no further treatment. My mother had throat cancer in 2000, treated with chemotherapy and radiation, almost died because of the inability to eat or swallow. She beat the cancer that time. She became ill about a year ago and they found a spot on her lung, after biopsy, it showed positive for the same kind of cancer my Dad has, not the same kind she had before.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately chemotherapy does not guarantee a cure. However, her chances of living longer are much greater if she has the chemotherapy. Once you have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, then you should follow up with routine doctor visits for the rest of your life. I will see my doctor every 3 months for the first two years, then ever 6 months up to year 5, then annually after that -- provided there is no recurrence.
Avatar n tn Radiation treatment for breast cancer should begin 4 weeks after the completion of adjuvant systemic chemotherapy or 2 to 4 weeks after surgery. Radiation treatment is delivered daily for 5 days per week. Hope this helps.

Avatar n tn my husband has developed skin nodules on his throat, above his stoma, after he had radiation, chemo and eventually a total larangetomy. The 1st one was removed and it was cancerous, now he has 2 more and they seemed to attach to each other.
Avatar f tn Hi. As far as I know, the usual chemotherapy drugs given in ovarian cancer are not administered by intramuscular, intradermal or subcutaneous abdominal injections. There is a type of hormonal treatment, called LHRH agonists (example: Zoladex) which can be given by abdominal injection. However, this kind of treatment is still under study for its effectiveness in treating ovarian cancer. It's not yet approved for general use outside clinical trials.
