3 years after that I had nuclear stress test that turned out fine. Now at age 50, I am taking 40 mg twice a day of propranolol, equate one daily multi-vitamin for men,150mg ranitidine daily, and am currently taking 500 mg of Amocillin for a slight sinus infection that is slightly in the chest[some colored discharge], I have been coughing uncontrollably, with a tickle in my throat, sweating profusely when it is in the low to mid 50's this April, and many times over the past 2-3 years.
sometimes Tenex is also used in conjunction with stimulants to help control ADHD symptoms....first I have heard of inderal (brand name for propranolol) being used but makes sense...Always to remember to ask your doctor any questions about your meds and health care...the only stupid questions are the ones not asked....Also beta blockers are also given to help control migraines to regulate fluxs in BP...not because too high but slight changes can trigger migraines...
I have suffered from Anxiety for around 5 years, I have it under control on most days, I am using Cymbalta (30mg per day) and Propranolol (10mg per day).
Another side effect of one of the above medications is excessive sweating after exercise or manual activity, I have read that this is common and that it affects 5 - 20% of people on anti-depressants and that it has something to do with serotonin levels / inhibitors.....
Take methadone 60mgs at 9am every am, visterall 200mgs 9am,1pm,6pm. Propranolol 80mgs 9am and 9pm, Klonopin 2mgs only for panic attacks. About 11/2 weeks ago stopped clonodine 0.3mgs took a lot of them when I had them. So now I wake up and instantly start sweating and don't stop sweating until 10pm at night.
I also do take the beta-blocker pindolol which has kept my BP at 125/70 for years. Shrink says very occasional and use of propranolol on top of pindolol should not be a problem but I still have concerns which I will run by my GP. I actually did receive a call from my pharmacy pointing out the risk of a low BP problem.
So...I am wondering if anyone has used propranolol or has an educated opinion on both its use in ED and possible interactions.
I know propranolol is used for PTSD...but what should I ask for in the pharmacy and what is the dosage?
Are there any serious effect if taken without proper knowledge?
I have had shaking hands and legs, rapid heartbeat, trouble swallowing, sweating, anxiety, depression, mood changes and shorten periods now for years and thought it was just me. The doctor started me on propranolol but it seems to not be working as well as it did in the beginning. I feel like I am going crazy.
Hi, Thank you for your question. Usually, propranolol (beta blocker) is suggested for prophylactic treatment of migraine. Acute or prompt treatment require over the counter pain killers and triptans. Avoiding the triggering factors of cluster headache might help you in order to prevent its recurrence. Hope it helps.
I used to take a slow-release Propranolol 80 mg every day, which caused severe tiredness and extreme fatigue, to the point that I was not able to think straight and sometimes could not even get out of bed. Apparently, Propranolol also inhibits the ability for you to burn fat, not to mention gastrointestinal issues. Depression is also significantly higher when taking Propranolol.
I take propranolol for my blood pressure and keeps my heart steady when a panic attack comes around. For my anxiety, the dr put me on celexa, propranolol, and Ativan. This combo usually works pretty well.
Has your doctor considered trying you on Propranolol? It is a beta blocker and is very helpful for minimizing the symptoms of hyperthyroid because it blocks T4 hormone absorption into the brain. Won't be a permanent fix for the problem (you need the Thyroid uptake scan to determine cause of symptoms and appropriate treatment based on that scan's results) but in the short term small doses of propranolol two-3 times daily will at least help you FEEL better!
Yeah, Propanolol has a chance of helping you. Not sure whether suggesting to the doctor what to try is the right approach, but you could always ask if you're a good candidate for it (assuming you've been checked out properly, diagnosed properly -- which often means an MRI and a long discussion of history, habits, possible triggers).
I have been given propranolol to take as I have had continuous palpitations since monday and my heartrate has randomly shooting up in the 100's (not related to posture!!) These will also help with my bp, it has been creeping up.
