I have suffered with migraines for many years & was placed on prophylactic meds-Cymbalta & Propranolol. About 3 months ago I developed Trigeminal Neuritis on my R side. I have to say it was the most painful affliction I ever experienced, even worse than the 2 spinal fusions I underwent! I was placed on Trileptal & am up to 600mg 2x/day, as well as continuing with Cymbalta & Propranolol.

What I understand is that beta blocker have usually mild side-effects when they are give to people with high blood pressure... BUT in my case, my blood pressure is lower to normal only and rarely in the high range (only when i'm in a middle of a panic attack or in a situation where I feel trap).
Hi clydo , yes , sweating profusely is a recognized adverse effect of Effexor. For more information check out the product information on the leaflet in the pack , or their website - there's a whole host of possible side effects.
And I even tried propranolol before but it does not works..
Do not adjust the dose without asking your doctor! This is very important. Beta blockers can have very unwanted side effects if the dose is too high.
I used to take 10 mg when needed. Usually before exercise (as my heart rate got a little high during exercise when I was nervous, and I got palpitations) or when being stressed because it had a great effect preventing panic. My panic attacks stopped completely when taking propranolol, and I never had a racing heart.
5 mg xanax but my dr decided to try propranolol 40mg instead because i started to have high blood pressue. i read these two meds arent safe together. has or does anyone take them together?

Since I live in Iowa (low of -24 degrees the other day), it was a side effects that really bothered me. Now I am on 240 mg of Diltiazem and no side effects but it is not controlling the rapid pulse rate very well. My husband, who has A-fib, saw a mention on one of the discussion boards he reads of Beta Blockers lowering the levels of Melatonin in some patients and causing sleep disturbances.

Hallucinations and night mares are common side effects of Propranolol. However, these are not serious side effects. You do not need to stop the medication for these symptoms. Please talk to your doctor for the management of the symptoms. Another fact about Propranolol is that it should not be stopped suddenly otherwise it may cause Angina, and possibility a heart attack. Are you injecting prior to bed? The sweating and aches waking you up? And, did this sweating just start with the increase or did it start w/the lowest dose? Mine started w/the low dose. Sorry for all the questions. Just want to get an idea of how it all has transpired. I did see gradual improvements if it's any consolation.

I also was on propranolol for a while with no side effects. I don't agree with banglamom in saying the best cure is to stop taking your medicine. Some medicines can have side effects at first that wear off after you've been on them for a month or so.
However, I have been having some pretty difficult side effects that have become more uncomfortable since my 50mcg increase. The symptoms have been extreme sweating even when it's cooler. Moving around at a slow pace I break out into a sweat, my head drenched. My menstrual cycle has not regulated either, prolonged bleeding. My appetite has increased as well as anxiety. I have chest heaviness on and off, too.
Normal Range 0.40-5.00 and my results last week were 4.63.
I am starting this beta blocker for anxiety and high blood pressure.
I am a big girl and my blood pressure is quite high so I'm not worried it will drop too low but am worried about side effects.
Any idea what to expect. Shortness of breath terrifies me.
Thanks for the info! I will be seeing the Internist thursday and I just wanted to run it by some one else before I go for my appt. I also take desipramine for my headaches and I've read that one of the side effects can be sweating.
When did you start taking Propranolol 20 mg? Side effects of propranolol include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, constipation, fatigue, insomnia, nausea, depression, memory loss, fever, lightheadedness, slow heart rate, low blood pressure, cold extremities, sore throat, and shortness of breath( ref: http://www.medicinenet.com/propranolol/page2.htm). It is possible that your symptoms are related to the medication you are taking.
