Avatar m tn Hi, I'm glad that the Lopressor (metoprolol) work great for you!!! Can I know why you take it? What I understand is that beta blocker have usually mild side-effects when they are give to people with high blood pressure... BUT in my case, my blood pressure is lower to normal only and rarely in the high range (only when i'm in a middle of a panic attack or in a situation where I feel trap).
Avatar f tn I also was on propranolol for a while with no side effects. I don't agree with banglamom in saying the best cure is to stop taking your medicine. Some medicines can have side effects at first that wear off after you've been on them for a month or so.
Avatar f tn At six years old, if the medicine is causing severe side effects, what is the next best treatment? There are no surgeons in this area to handle this kind of surgery for a 6 year old and I'm not convinced that RAI for my little girl is the best option either. How long can a person "safely" be on methimazole and propranolol? When her levels are "normal" will she ever be back to a normal life or will we always be on this roller coaster?
Avatar n tn The most common side effects of Sertraline that you should watch out for are nausea, diarrhea and sleep disturbances, in that order. There are a lot of other side effects listed for Sertraline, but these are the ones commonly encountered. Drowsiness and excessive sleep may be seen with Clonazepam. Other side effects are rare. I won't be able to comment much on the effects of the initial dosage on your blood pressure, as it differs person to person.
Avatar n tn Since I live in Iowa (low of -24 degrees the other day), it was a side effects that really bothered me. Now I am on 240 mg of Diltiazem and no side effects but it is not controlling the rapid pulse rate very well. My husband, who has A-fib, saw a mention on one of the discussion boards he reads of Beta Blockers lowering the levels of Melatonin in some patients and causing sleep disturbances.
Avatar m tn Beta blockers are powerful drugs with the potential for many unpleasant side-effects. There is no way to know in advance which, if any, you will experience. Some people take them with no problem. They slow down your heart rate so you may find your workout and cardio performance is slightly limited.
Avatar m tn Hi, Hallucinations and night mares are common side effects of Propranolol. However, these are not serious side effects. You do not need to stop the medication for these symptoms. Please talk to your doctor for the management of the symptoms. Another fact about Propranolol is that it should not be stopped suddenly otherwise it may cause Angina, and possibility a heart attack. Please discuss with your doctor if you really want to change the medication. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
Avatar m tn I will read up on the side effects of the Propranolol. I also use to other drugs to treat hyper tension as well as a rapid heart beat. Amlodipine 10 mg and Ramipril 15 mg. I knew that it has an effect on ED, but I also have low testosterone as well as a neurogenic bladder. I thought that this was the cause of the ED. Thank you for bringing the Propranolol to my attention. I will ask my urologist on Wednessday when I have a follow up cystoscopy.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have suffered with migraines for many years & was placed on prophylactic meds-Cymbalta & Propranolol. About 3 months ago I developed Trigeminal Neuritis on my R side. I have to say it was the most painful affliction I ever experienced, even worse than the 2 spinal fusions I underwent! I was placed on Trileptal & am up to 600mg 2x/day, as well as continuing with Cymbalta & Propranolol.
Avatar m tn m not finding much information on the side effects of this med. It could be possible that the sweating and hair loss could be side effects of this med. You can call your Dr or pharmacist. Either of them can tell you if these are side effects of this med.
Avatar f tn Results vary among people, but, for migraines, I was taking 240 mg Inderal LA (Propranolol slow release) every day, in divided doses, I was fine. One site I just viewed suggested dosing as 40mg twice a day of Standard Propranolol or 80 mg Slow Release once a day. For the Standard Propranolol, they listed 640 mg as the maximum per day, in divided doses, so you're clearing that by a wide margin.
Avatar n tn ive also had such a bad headache nausea and weakness since ii started the propranolol two days ago ugh have you had any of tgese side effects ? ive also been on xanax for 3 years 0.75 mg daily ...
Avatar f tn If I get any problems I will get another BP test at the chemist, I also have to watch the muscle weakness side effects as I have a form of Muscular Dystrophy.
Avatar m tn I'm also having to take beta-blockers (Propranolol) daily. They help but not in a way to fall asleep and stay asleep.
Avatar f tn 4 days ago pcp changed my beta blocker from propranolol 40mg twice daily to metprolol er 25mg daily d/t low pulse in 40s- 50s. Been on propranolol for 22yrs for PVCS. She had me just stop propranolol and start metoprolol, been experiencing shakiness, occassional pvcs, headache, nausea, pulse still 45 - low 60s at rest and with exertion 70-90. Should she have tapered propranolol or will the metoprolol block the more serious withdrawal symptoms ie: HTN, chest pain ect.
Avatar f tn When did you start taking Propranolol 20 mg? Side effects of propranolol include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, constipation, fatigue, insomnia, nausea, depression, memory loss, fever, lightheadedness, slow heart rate, low blood pressure, cold extremities, sore throat, and shortness of breath( ref: http://www.medicinenet.com/propranolol/page2.htm). It is possible that your symptoms are related to the medication you are taking.
Avatar n tn Hi tom_h, Metoprolol is a cardio-selective beta-blocker, or in the the "selective" class of beta blockers. It only blocks on cardiac receptors (beta-1), so the side effects are limited. Propranolol and Sotalol are non-selective beta blockers so they block all adrenaline receptors, (beta-1 and beta-2), so a lot more side effects on things that depend on adrenaline.
Avatar m tn As with any prescription drug, the side effects vary from person to person. But yes, weight gain is quite common with Propranolol.
Avatar n tn The Propranolol was prescribed for my heart and never for anything else. Now I am currently taking Propranolol in the morning along with Paxil, at night I take Propranolol again. I take the Klonopin is taken as needed twice a day.
Avatar n tn I'd ask about something else. That is a beta blocker (blood pressure pill). I was on it and of course it lowers your blood pressure and knocks you out and makes you feel weak. It takes a while to get used to and if you took it one day you'd have trouble concentrating and focusing at the presentation because of the side effects. That's not to say its unsafe or not worth using but it takes to accustom yourself to it. And speak to your psychiatrist not your doctor.
2010625 tn?1329372056 I have akathisia from Abilify but it works for me most of the time so I didn't want to go off it. My pdoc added propranolol, a beta blocker, 60mg a day, that stopped the akathisia almost completely. Propranolol is actually mainly for high blood pressure but has "side effects" that takes care of akathisia and anxiety. The only problem I have from it is orthostatic hypotension (dizziness upon standing) but all I have to do is stop and lean over for a few seconds and it passes.
Avatar f tn Why on earth were you on a beta-blocker (Heart medicine, Propranolol) for a sore throat? Someone made a mistake.. I would seek help Immediately. Though 2 weeks of propranolol wouldn't hurt you I would say you could probably have Incurred a bad side effect from the Propranolol.
Avatar f tn m having less success finding out about long-term side-effects-in particular, rapid weight gain. I noticed the bloating quite early in my treatment, especially in my face and abdomen. My concern is that the bloated abdomen has been joined by swollen ankles, calves, hands, wrists and breasts. The most worrysome is the abdominal bloating-I rarely gain much weight in my abdomen; it's usually in the butt/thighs/hips area! LOL!!
