Avatar n tn I have the worst case of social anxiety it is not even funny. I sweat uncontrollably when I am in social events and not comfortable. I feel so stupid and the more I think about it at the time it happens, the sweatier I get. I HATE IT!
Avatar f tn As far as evidence goes, the only problem this has been shown to help with are those with heart palpitations that are real and not imagined and those with social anxiety. Prozac isn't the best antidepressant for anxiety because it tends to be stimulating, so I'm guessing your main problem is anxiety. Only trying this drug will tell you if it will work, but it certainly was never approved for this purpose. It does help some. It doesn't appear to help most.
Avatar m tn Hello, i'm taking about 3 months propranolol 10mg for migraines - twice a day, morning and evening. I suffer from social anxiety, but the doctor does not know .. The problem of migraines is separately When i have Anxiety attack i am sweating a lot, especially the plams. But in normal circumstances I would not sweat, but lately I'm sweating all the time and from places that I was not sweating before - legs, underarms, back, hands-like all the time !!!
Avatar f tn I have had severe social anxiety for 2 decades. I was prescribed Inderal for my extreme fear of public speaking. I was prescribed Inderal for the public speaking and tried to deliver my speech, it was a disaster, racing thoughts, mind went blank, voice quivered, hands shook, jelly legs, etc. I may not have been on the right dose, because I have always had a very high tolerance. My question is what is the highest dose allowed.
Avatar f tn So theoretically they become much more expert in it and the interactions between drugs and things like quitting smoking and also in the appropriate drugs to prescribe for a certain condition. Beta blockers, for example, have only been found effective for social anxiety, which doesn't mean they don't work for some people for other things but that's not their main use in anxiety treatment.
Avatar m tn Hey, like mammo adviced you, there's ways to get help for you social anxiety. I've suffered from social anxiety for years and I didn't want to do any presentations at school at all coz I would start to shake and sweat and my face would be all red. The a doctor gave me propranolol which is a safe med (doesn't have any bad side effects) that aliviates all the symptoms.

Inderal will continue to help your stage flight as before even if you were on Inderal prophylaxis for migraine, because the additional dose will give you the desirable effects. Inderal will not eliminate all the anxiety in public speaking... Inderal may sometimes create problems, e.g.
Avatar f tn I had a huge weight gain on this medication so my dr swapped me to propranolol (20 MG three times a day). I have taken this medicine for 7 days now and I'm not sleeping. I'm very anxious at night. Night sweats are terrible. My heart hurts; it's not pounding or racing though. I still have ativan but I'm scared to take it because I don't know how this propranolol is works. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn I have gone the Propranolol, xanax, and Klonopin routes and I currently have all 3 of those in my medicine cabinet. Here is my summary on their effectiveness for anxiety: Propranolol: Does nothing at all to alleviate anxiety. The only thing it does is lessen the side-effects of anxiety. It does help a bit with confidence because you "think you have an edge", and you do, but it doesn't get rid of it at all.
709686 tn?1277435759 Beta blockers have been prescribed for anxiety for a long time. As someone above mentioned, they are especially effective in social anxiety situations...ie before speaking in front of a large group, etc. In that scenario, a person takes one about 30 min-1 hour before the event. A regular dosing of these types of meds (Inderal is one that is commonly Rxed) can also be very useful in combatting anxiety on a daily basis.
Avatar m tn I believe from researching it myself that it's a form of social anxiety. I have somehow recently managed to overcome it. I've gone from having the hot flushes in most social situations to now managing to be 'normal'. I thought it wasn't going to go away and I can honestly say it is a confidence thing and a vicious circle.... you're in a social situation, remember you're going to get all hot and there it comes - woosh, bright red face and chest.
Avatar n tn I am currently taking Propranolol (Inderal) 40mg for social anxiety, but I have been reading up on it and have found that a side effect can be depression. I am not currently on antidepressants and have not taken any regularly for about 1 year but have been on and off Prozac since I was 17 (now 23). The Propranolol (Inderal) is not taken daily it is only taken before encountering stressful situations.
Avatar n tn 47 I'm taking 30mg of Buspar a day for treatment of social phobia. I'm also taking 80mg of Propranolol LA for high blood pressure (and for treatment of social phobia). I am also seeking council with a psychologist. I could deal with having social phobia if it wasn't for the physical evidence of it. My main concern is to rid myself of over-blushing and over-perspiring episodes that occur every day.
968908 tn?1274874715 Certainly, the development of an elevated sedimentation rate should have raised a red flag and warrants further investigation/intervention. Propranolol is the most probable source for your symptomatology. Additionally, Propranolol is a highly lipophilic, non-selective beta-blocker. Given its lack of specificity, it targets both beta-1 (cardiac) and beta-2 (bronchial) receptors.
5915940 tn?1376622234 Beta blockers, for example, are usually used for social anxiety and for people with certain heart irregularities. Researching the web requires some common sense and discrimination -- there's good information out there and terrible information. But when you put it together, you get some idea of what to expect and become a more informed patient who can help your physician help you.
Avatar n tn 55:19 Dear susan; The two most widely used medications for specific social phobia associated with performance situations are Atenolol and Propranolol. These medications are also indicated for hypertension, cardiac disease and certain types of arrythmias and can help with the physical symptoms (heart racing) in patients with social phobia. The potential side effects include fatigue, nightmares, and bradycardia.

Avatar m tn It had gotten to the point that I did not leave my house (at 25, I am now 28). I was diagnosed with social anxiety, generalized anxiety and panic disorder. I had been taking clonazepam daily to help me get out of the house and back to work and lorazepam as needed (usually once a day, sometimes not at all) and trazodone as needed to sleep. I moved provinces and my new doctor has taken me off of all of my meds.

Avatar n tn I think I am Social Anxiety, however. I've scheduled an appt for 10/2 and have the fear the shrink - first time visit - won't issue me any meds. I really don't like meds and have tried paxil, prozac, wellbutrin, effexor, lexepro and a doctor even put me on an antipsychotic called risperdol. I don't really care for the SSRI's and the effexor gave me tinnitus which I have to this day. Last time I took meds was 2005 until I had to get myself off.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your responses regarding my post. I have been on paxil and xanax when I was first diagnosed with anxiety attacks and that form of therapy seemed to help considerably. I too noticed the hand tremors with Paxil. When I was taken off Paxil the hand tremors stopped.
Avatar f tn Hello, I have this problem too and was puzzled about the anxiety diagnosis...in reality, its not so much anxiety as it is a for of OCD. We have become aware of our breathing and thinking about it put it into all kinds of odd patterns. Harmless but miserable to say the least. It took six months for me to come to the grip that this is not medical but something in my " head" The good thing is, I can make it go away, and IT WILL GO AWAY.
Avatar m tn I become so stressed that I find it very difficult not to become physically violent in public situations. -Social anxiety. This has been a problem throughout my teen years. It was never really solved...It has decreased, I mainly experience anxiety simply in general, but I would say it's still there. I would definitely prefer to be alone. -Restless Leg Syndrome. This has recently begun to affect me.

Avatar n tn Hi, I was recently prescribed apo propranolol for anxiety. I also suffer from depression which has never been addressed. I am worried about going on anti-depressants but other treatments such as diet and exercise haven't worked. My doctor wants to take it one step at a time, but I don't want to have to go on different medications.
542733 tn?1217719151 Only sometimes if I'm full of anxiety. I have social anxiety so eating out with people is practically impossible. When I do go, the minute I go into the restaurant, I feel nauseous and then I just can't eat. If I force it, I know I'll be sick. My therapist has suggested for me to take some ativan before I go. But I've just been hiding from people. I have all sorts of tests done and everything comes back normal.
