Avatar f tn I have a presentation coming up next week, so I decided to go and seek medical help today. I went to my doctor and he diagnosed me with social anxiety. He said that the best treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy, but he prescribed me some medication to get me through this semester. He prescribed 10 mg propranolol (inderal) 3 times a day and an extra 10 mg inderal 1 hour before the presentation + 0.25 mg Xanax 1 hour before the presentation.
Avatar n tn I had a lot of social anxiety too and started taking Propranolol as a migraine preventative and to control PVC's (skipped heartbeats). I noticed that I felt much calmer and the social anxiety went away as an added benefit. When I read up on the drug I saw that it is also prescribed for stage fright. Now I can talk to people without getting so nervous, it's wonderful.
Avatar m tn Hello, i'm taking about 3 months propranolol 10mg for migraines - twice a day, morning and evening. I suffer from social anxiety, but the doctor does not know .. The problem of migraines is separately When i have Anxiety attack i am sweating a lot, especially the plams. But in normal circumstances I would not sweat, but lately I'm sweating all the time and from places that I was not sweating before - legs, underarms, back, hands-like all the time !!!
Avatar f tn Hi I was wondering if anyone has even been on propranolol 40mg once a day for anxiety and stopped smoking and if so did you feel fine!
Avatar f tn As far as evidence goes, the only problem this has been shown to help with are those with heart palpitations that are real and not imagined and those with social anxiety. Prozac isn't the best antidepressant for anxiety because it tends to be stimulating, so I'm guessing your main problem is anxiety. Only trying this drug will tell you if it will work, but it certainly was never approved for this purpose. It does help some. It doesn't appear to help most.

Avatar m tn Hey, like mammo adviced you, there's ways to get help for you social anxiety. I've suffered from social anxiety for years and I didn't want to do any presentations at school at all coz I would start to shake and sweat and my face would be all red. The a doctor gave me propranolol which is a safe med (doesn't have any bad side effects) that aliviates all the symptoms.
Avatar f tn Hi there, Just a quick backstory on my anxiety and why I've been taking propranolol; I've been suffering with very bad social anxiety for over a year now. It mostly occurs in work, I've had multiple panic attacks, and constantly break out in red rashes on my neck and chest when I get anxious over talking to people. Shaky hands, knees and voice. Unable to think straight, I have it all!
Avatar f tn propranolol does not help with the anxiety itself (the anxious thinking and negative thoughts) - it will only help with the physical symptoms of anxiety. To confirm this, you can google propranolol and find for yourself.

Inderal will continue to help your stage flight as before even if you were on Inderal prophylaxis for migraine, because the additional dose will give you the desirable effects. Inderal will not eliminate all the anxiety in public speaking... Inderal may sometimes create problems, e.g.
Avatar m tn The only thing that seems to have helped me is starting supplements (well I've been on them a while now) but that is all I can think of that's changed - I take evening primrose oil daily, L-lysine and a good multi-vitamin. I've also forced myself to be more social and tried to gain some control in those social situations. Like having a glass of water to keep me cool at my desk... the more I started to stop flushing / getting anxious, the less the hot flushes have appeared.
Avatar n tn However I didnt get to see my doctor for over 2 weeks and I went nuts with anxiety, i actually thought I was hypoglycimic and follow the diet strictly. When I finally saw the doctor they did tons of blood tests and said I wasnt hypoglcimic, Sure enough the symtoms weny away. But I still get the head pressure and I still worry about it. It gets worse if Im stressed or even excited, like if Im laughing hard. But never a serious pain but just always prevelent. I also feel slightly dizzy.
Avatar n tn I am currently taking Propranolol (Inderal) 40mg for social anxiety, but I have been reading up on it and have found that a side effect can be depression. I am not currently on antidepressants and have not taken any regularly for about 1 year but have been on and off Prozac since I was 17 (now 23). The Propranolol (Inderal) is not taken daily it is only taken before encountering stressful situations.
5915940 tn?1376622234 Beta blockers, for example, are usually used for social anxiety and for people with certain heart irregularities. Researching the web requires some common sense and discrimination -- there's good information out there and terrible information. But when you put it together, you get some idea of what to expect and become a more informed patient who can help your physician help you.
Avatar f tn Not saying it's not the new drug, but you don't mention if you properly stopped the Paxil before switching. Also, at least according to what I've read, beta blockers tend to work best with social anxiety and performance anxiety.
Avatar f tn I have obsessive thoughts, I do obsessive things, I am constantly thinking, and feel like I have some kind of disease that the doctors cannot find. I cannot concentrate, I forget everything, feel foggy headed, and just feel empty. And can anxiety cause constant joint popping? I have constant grinding, popping, and cracking sounds in my joints all over my body, especially in my neck, very badly in my shoulders, my back, jaw, elbows, wrists, knees and hips.
Avatar n tn unless having less anxiety and depression is a stimulant. The anxiety and depression relief was enough to make emotional space for attention to other issues.
Avatar m tn it was more of a social anxiety before taking above medicines but after quitting it has increased a lot and my social anxiety disorder has turned to generalised Anxiety Disorder. Please suggest solution to the above problems.Do you think Cognitive behavioral therapy or any other therapy could help because i don't want to start those medicines again, they used to cause a lot of headache and drowsiness throughout the day. Please help.
Avatar m tn Hello , I suffer from social anxiety and I would really appreciate your advice regarding my situation. I have used propranolol for over a year and experienced some serious side effects such as weight (which I managed to lose) depression, foul body odor, extreme fatigue, dizziness etc. Although in this present year side effects were less, I somewhat built tolerance to propranolol. I made the mistake to stop cold turkey propranolol for about two weeks. I used to take 160mg.
709686 tn?1277435759 Hi When I had to go on Toprel for heart pvc's and pac's my doctor told me that this medicine helps with anxiety also. I couldn't understand this and when I was on xanax for the heart problems and was coming off he also mentioned it would help me while I was coming off. I personal didn't notice it helping my anxiety but I am on an extremly low does.
Avatar n tn I would stay away from the SNRIs (like Effexor), as they are more activating, and may exacerbate your anxiety. The SSRIs really are a better choice to start with, if anxiety is your primary problem. I also wouldn't personally recommend Paxil (an SSRI), only because it's one of the meds that is well known for being a toughie to come off. Just more reported problems with that specific med, over its SSRI cousins.
Avatar m tn It had gotten to the point that I did not leave my house (at 25, I am now 28). I was diagnosed with social anxiety, generalized anxiety and panic disorder. I had been taking clonazepam daily to help me get out of the house and back to work and lorazepam as needed (usually once a day, sometimes not at all) and trazodone as needed to sleep. I moved provinces and my new doctor has taken me off of all of my meds.
Avatar n tn 41 Scott, You have been diagnosed with social phobia (social anxiety disorder) and are taking Buspar and propranolol which may be helpful medications for this disorder. Additionally you had a trial of Prozac (an antidepressant, so called SSRI) but discontinued it. Prozac (and other SSRI's) have had the most research of all the agents used in treating social phobia and so far seems to be the most efficacious. It can be taken safely in combination with Buspar.
Avatar n tn It sounds like he has a lot of social anxiety, OCD, and low self esteem, try your best to get him to a therapist, and lots of compliments. I bet he doesn't take them well. Also, every day, make him go out more, and be more active, even if only 15 -20 minutes to start, then increase the time and level of social interaction as he feels comfortable. I overcame the "hermit way of life" by the above stated, but he will have to want to make the changes.
Avatar f tn I am reasonably healthy and cannot see a reason for this to start happening. Is it possible that the stress and anxiety that I have been through could have manifested itself in my hands (and what feels like my arms)and make them shake? I feel like I am picking things up and moving them about as if I was extremely nervous. I also feel like I can feel the blood pumping through my upper body as my heart beats and I am constantly tired. I haven't had to stop doing anything.
Avatar f tn i am 19 a few mounth ago i stared felling like i needed to yawn sometimes to catch my breath then over time it was constantly it made me feel like i was going to stop breathing or something and thin i had my first panic attack and after googleing it and wachting videos on youtub i have understod what i was going thro it was anxitey i have been triying to find ways to help me with no medication i dont want to feel the need to yawn all the time it suckes i just stared some breathing techniques i t
968908 tn?1274874715 I have discussed this with my psychiatrist and two GP's at my practice and all they do is take my blood pressure say its ok and send me packing saying its anxiety related..... thats all i get from them, anxiety related. Yes i agree to a point cause i am anxious far more of lately but that is simply because of how all the dizziness, breathlessness is making me feel. I feel like im dying.
Avatar m tn I'm currently seeing a psychiatrist, and have been for months. He has prescribed me Propranolol and Buspar. I feel like these medications are not working and am considering seeing another doctor. I've started drinking alcohol to combat these symptoms, and it is helping more than anything else, but is causing serious bowl discomfort, and I of course recognize this is not a viable path to take.
