Common Questions and Answers about Social anxiety and propranolol treatment

Avatar f tn I have a presentation coming up next week, so I decided to go and seek medical help today. I went to my doctor and he diagnosed me with social anxiety. He said that the best treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy, but he prescribed me some medication to get me through this semester. He prescribed 10 mg propranolol (inderal) 3 times a day and an extra 10 mg inderal 1 hour before the presentation + 0.25 mg Xanax 1 hour before the presentation.
Avatar f tn Hi I was wondering if anyone has even been on propranolol 40mg once a day for anxiety and stopped smoking and if so did you feel fine!

Avatar n tn However I didnt get to see my doctor for over 2 weeks and I went nuts with anxiety, i actually thought I was hypoglycimic and follow the diet strictly. When I finally saw the doctor they did tons of blood tests and said I wasnt hypoglcimic, Sure enough the symtoms weny away. But I still get the head pressure and I still worry about it. It gets worse if Im stressed or even excited, like if Im laughing hard. But never a serious pain but just always prevelent. I also feel slightly dizzy.
Avatar f tn I have obsessive thoughts, I do obsessive things, I am constantly thinking, and feel like I have some kind of disease that the doctors cannot find. I cannot concentrate, I forget everything, feel foggy headed, and just feel empty. And can anxiety cause constant joint popping? I have constant grinding, popping, and cracking sounds in my joints all over my body, especially in my neck, very badly in my shoulders, my back, jaw, elbows, wrists, knees and hips.
Avatar n tn I would stay away from the SNRIs (like Effexor), as they are more activating, and may exacerbate your anxiety. The SSRIs really are a better choice to start with, if anxiety is your primary problem. I also wouldn't personally recommend Paxil (an SSRI), only because it's one of the meds that is well known for being a toughie to come off. Just more reported problems with that specific med, over its SSRI cousins.
Avatar n tn 41 Scott, You have been diagnosed with social phobia (social anxiety disorder) and are taking Buspar and propranolol which may be helpful medications for this disorder. Additionally you had a trial of Prozac (an antidepressant, so called SSRI) but discontinued it. Prozac (and other SSRI's) have had the most research of all the agents used in treating social phobia and so far seems to be the most efficacious. It can be taken safely in combination with Buspar.
Avatar n tn It sounds like he has a lot of social anxiety, OCD, and low self esteem, try your best to get him to a therapist, and lots of compliments. I bet he doesn't take them well. Also, every day, make him go out more, and be more active, even if only 15 -20 minutes to start, then increase the time and level of social interaction as he feels comfortable. I overcame the "hermit way of life" by the above stated, but he will have to want to make the changes.
Avatar f tn I am reasonably healthy and cannot see a reason for this to start happening. Is it possible that the stress and anxiety that I have been through could have manifested itself in my hands (and what feels like my arms)and make them shake? I feel like I am picking things up and moving them about as if I was extremely nervous. I also feel like I can feel the blood pumping through my upper body as my heart beats and I am constantly tired. I haven't had to stop doing anything.

Avatar m tn I'm currently seeing a psychiatrist, and have been for months. He has prescribed me Propranolol and Buspar. I feel like these medications are not working and am considering seeing another doctor. I've started drinking alcohol to combat these symptoms, and it is helping more than anything else, but is causing serious bowl discomfort, and I of course recognize this is not a viable path to take.
Avatar m tn I've read that smoking raises blood pressure and therefore exacerbates anxiety/stress, so it's a no-brainer that the social-smoking needs to stop. I also read that it's a good idea to cut out caffeine (no more Diet Mt. Dew *cry *throwfit *repeat). So if you are reading this looking for how to stop anxiety and panic attacks after a night of drinking, the simple answer is to STOP drinking.

Avatar n tn I took the propranolol for two days and had I believe a side effect from it; lightheaded, hands and feet cold, fogginess (couldn't think very well), dizziness. I told my Doctor and he said to take it at night then. With those side effects, is it safe for me to continue taking it? And will it help my constant PVC's eventually? Aren't PVC's extremely hard on the heart? They sure feel like they would be.
Avatar n tn The treatment is with medication called Inderal which is a beta-blocking agent and is often used for cardiac related disease and social anxiety. Your primary care doctor can prescribe this for you. If you continue to have concerns or anxiety about this issue after initiating medication, then it may be helpful to see a psychiatrist for further evaluation and treatment. Good luck.
503727 tn?1210442710 I feel so unstable, and when I say unstable, I mean I feel like I cannot control anything and my panic and anxiety can just take me over. But have you ever noticed that even in the middle of the worse anxiety attack, if your in public with friends or something, you will aways excuse yourself properly before running off? I notice I do that, it's weird. Some may not, I dunno. The most important thing is that you are not alone and you are not crazy!

Finally, I gave in to him, and tried Topomax. I started with 5omg a day (and at a weight of 198 pound). Avatar n tn He put me on Celebrex (anti-inflammatory for my neck and gave me Zoloft and Xanax for the anxiety. I've been sick much more often in the last six months, probably due to a horrible work environment (new boss). My doctor didn't know how or why my neck has suddenly swollen. But it worries me a lot and my husband is really concerned. I feel like my healthy is spinning out of control. I'm still having severe neck pain and my should is still pretty stiff.
Avatar n tn The propranolol will help with the shakes and also anxiety, but if the anxiety is more pronounced and/or with panic attacks then my guess would be that the doctor would prescribe clonazepam with it. This is something to discuss with your doctor and it might mean a trip to the neurologist to confirm what sounds like essential tremor which, by the way, is more of an annoyance than a serious problem.
Avatar m tn I have severe anxiety (panic with agoraphobia, somatisation, GAD, social anxiety). My anxiety is not well control, I'm med sensitive and can't take antidepressants like Paxil, Lexapro or even older ones like imipramine... 1 mg of Paxil send me to the ER and same for Lexapro, didn't had problem with both drugs before and took them for my anxiety for years. I'm on a high dose of clonazepam 7 mg day, I'm addicted and do a very slow tapering withdrawal...
Avatar f tn i get it when im sleeping and these noises just come into my head and becomes real load and then this anxiety feeling comes1 the only way i could get rid of it was by talking to someone or turning the tv on! the silence just becomes to much and every thing becomes a lot echo in my head! all things that everyone else has explained on here is just like how i feel! i really thought i was the only one and i keep of thinking there is something wrong i just hope its not dangerous!
Avatar f tn I know this from experience and from researching BBs. I had been put on both propranolol and atenolol for tachycardia, and both medications made me feel suicidal. I suffer from depression and anxiety, and even in my darkest moments, I have never seriously considered suicide. Until I took the beta blockers. As soon as I stopped them, the suicidal feelings just disappeared. These are terrible drugs if you are depressed. If you go online to or to drugdigest.
Avatar m tn I have ventricular beats that are getting more and more frequent and stronger, or myb im just too much scared or stressed that i imagine. Im falling in depression, and i have massive anxiety and panic attacks. Currently im on Propranolol 10mg 2x day. It ease my PVCs and my fast HR but it slows me down. Btw i have low BP, 110-70, sometimes 90-50...and when u put Propranolol atop of that... This is my EKG Holter monitor of 24h.
