Propranolol for hemangiomas

Common Questions and Answers about Propranolol for hemangiomas

Avatar f tn Can the beta blocker Propranolol work on giant liver hemangiomas in adults? It looks to be working in reducing the size of infant hemangiomas. What are other options? I have 4 in my liver & the largest is 14cm. It grew because of pregnancy. I'm in good shape, 31 & 135 ilbs. My doctor referred me to a surgeon & didn't really want to discuss propranolol.
Avatar f tn More alarmingly, though, was the shape of her nose- the nose tip looks like a huge bulb, which sounds like a compound hemangioma (my older DD also has hemangiomas, so I know by the look that this is probably what my younger DD has). Is there anyone out there with experience with a nose tip hemangioma? Did you get it lasered? At what age does it get worse? Did anyone get surgery for their child? I'd appreciate any advice/stories you'd have to share....
Avatar f tn Thanks for the help. No, I know that hemangiomas would not cause all the symptoms I am having. The strength was 1.5 Tesla for the MRI of the spine. I have also had issues with my eyesight for years after the original episode of ON. Whenever I go to the tanning booth, I can't see for the rest of the night (very blurry). Or even when I exercise, it causes similar symptoms of blurry vision. My clinical indication on the MRI was numbness and tingling in all extremities.
Avatar n tn sometimes Tenex is also used in conjunction with stimulants to help control ADHD symptoms....first I have heard of inderal (brand name for propranolol) being used but makes sense...Always to remember to ask your doctor any questions about your meds and health care...the only stupid questions are the ones not asked....Also beta blockers are also given to help control migraines to regulate fluxs in BP...not because too high but slight changes can trigger migraines...
1243620 tn?1274790697 Does anyone take propranolol for anxiety and panic attacks? I've had crippling anxiety for my whole life. Antidepressants increase it to the point where I'm in such a state I almost pass out from hypervenitlating. I've heard propranolol is good for this, and is effective.
Avatar f tn I also do take the beta-blocker pindolol which has kept my BP at 125/70 for years. Shrink says very occasional and use of propranolol on top of pindolol should not be a problem but I still have concerns which I will run by my GP. I actually did receive a call from my pharmacy pointing out the risk of a low BP problem. So...I am wondering if anyone has used propranolol or has an educated opinion on both its use in ED and possible interactions.
Avatar f tn I know propranolol is used for PTSD...but what should I ask for in the pharmacy and what is the dosage? Are there any serious effect if taken without proper knowledge?
Avatar n tn The vast majority of hemangiomas of the liver never cause symptoms or health problems and most are discovered incidentally at the time of testing for unrelated medical problems. Very large hemangiomas can cause symptoms such as pain, nausea, or enlargement of the liver. Rarely, larger hemangiomas can rupture, causing severe pain and bleeding into the abdomen.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your reply. I have sent off for this paper and am waiting for it to arrive. As you will have found out yourself when trying to find information on the internet the paper you cite is the only information available in respect of Eruptive Capillary Hemangiomas by Colver et al. The differential here is that adult Eruptive Capillary Hemangiomas are rare whereas Campbell de Morgan spots are common despite clinical similarities.
Avatar f tn Hi, can hemangiomas (lesions in the liver) be caused by gastroenteritis - if I have had it 2-3 times in a gap of few months?
Avatar n tn I am 41 years old.I too have hemangiomas.I have multiple hemangiomas,on T3,T5,L1,and the right side of my lumbar.I've been going to a doctor for over a year now.I'm on 3,700mgs of nerve pain medication. They really don't help much.I am know seeing a neurologist.I've had 2 MRI's.He too tells me that hemangiomas don't cause pain. All my pain seems to be in the exact spot [L1] on my lower back.I wish I could give him my pain for just one day.Pain is not too bad in the morning.
Avatar n tn Hi, Thank you for your question. Usually, propranolol (beta blocker) is suggested for prophylactic treatment of migraine. Acute or prompt treatment require over the counter pain killers and triptans. Avoiding the triggering factors of cluster headache might help you in order to prevent its recurrence. Hope it helps.
Avatar n tn I have been suffering with accute pain for over 4 years now, over that period I have recently found out that there is a hemangioma in T1. The surgeon I have seen in Leeds accepts that the hemangioma can be excised, but that he after consultation with his colleagues has come to the conclusion that it is benign and cannot therefore be causing the pain. However, neither can they find any other cause of the pain. Can anyone recommend a specialist who recognises the condition?
Avatar n tn Hey spf647, I had a cat scan on my bladder and kidneys in Feb of 2008. Small liver lesion 1.7 cm was noticed on my liver. Was told probably nothing and to get it checked in 6 months. Well follow-up cat scan showed 3 or 4 lesions in right lobe. Had a biopsy and it came back hemangiomas (benign clumps of blood vessels). Was sent to liver doctor and had a MRI. Got a call that said MRI didn't jive with hemangiomas. But showed 6 or 7 lesions in both lobes.
Avatar m tn I used to take a slow-release Propranolol 80 mg every day, which caused severe tiredness and extreme fatigue, to the point that I was not able to think straight and sometimes could not even get out of bed. Apparently, Propranolol also inhibits the ability for you to burn fat, not to mention gastrointestinal issues. Depression is also significantly higher when taking Propranolol.
Avatar f tn Due to back pain in the thoracic spine I recently an MRI. I was diagnosed with "lesions at T7, T11 & T12, atypical for hemangiomas". The report went on to say that with my history of neoplasm (breast cancer), metastatic disease should be considered. So what do I do with this information? Do I need to have these lesions biopsied? Should I have a bone scan first? A PET/CT a few months ago did not reveal any uptake in that region. Please advise.
19070278 tn?1471892750 I was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver in July of 2014, at that time, I had a hemangioma on my liver that has experienced some growth as shown in an ultrasound May 2016. Per the same ultrasound, another hemangioma has since developed. I am to have a CT this Thursday so the doctor can have a better view of the hemangiomas. The last biopsy I had was when I was first diagnosed. I can't seem to find any information about multiple hemangiomas on a diseased liver.
Avatar f tn What treatments are available for this? I am asking because the neurosurgeon failed to mention the hemangiomas to me. I was unaware of these unitl I read my copy of the MRI report. She mentioned sending me to a pain management doctor. How effective will pain management be. The pain in my foot and leg have grown mucn worse over the past year.
Avatar m tn Records of patients referred for evaluation of radiologically and/or histopathologically proven liver hemangiomas, from June 1991 to February 2006, were retrospectively analyzed. Reason for referral, results of imaging studies, and surgical treatment and outcome were reviewed. RESULTS: There were 34 patients identified. The hemangioma size was 5 cm in 19 patients. The most common reason for referral was right upper abdominal pain in 59% (20/34) of patients.
Avatar f tn Hi,Can you please Help answer a few questions for me?I had the Mri of my brain which showed lesions,(possible ms).My question is this,I had the Mri of brain and spine and two different people wrote the final reports,my cervical Mri reads round lesion in the C6 vertebral body measuring 10mmX10mm,This demonstrates increased signal intensity on stir T2 weighted sequence.C5 is Isointence on T1 weighted sequence,This demonstrates enhancement on post contrast.
Avatar f tn I take propranolol for my blood pressure and keeps my heart steady when a panic attack comes around. For my anxiety, the dr put me on celexa, propranolol, and Ativan. This combo usually works pretty well.
Avatar f tn I have had no symptoms the reason for the ultrasound was due to elevated liver enzymes. From what I have read hemangiomas do not cause elevated liver enzymes, should I be worried? And my question is, is it ok to drink alcohol with a liver hemangioma? I am only 25 and do have a few drinks 1-2 times a week. I am by no means an alcoholic and I know the rational thing would be to not drink at all. But does anyone know if even moderate alchol consumption is ok with a liver hemangioma?
Avatar f tn During this time, I also ended up being admitted for dysphasia (I was unable to formulate my sentences/thoughts) This lasted approximately 4 days and resolved completely. The nausea and vomiting has also subsided (I now take Antivert or Benadryl and Phenerganwhen the nausea hits). However, now I have numbness and tingling in my bilateral feet and hands, my thoracic spine area in my ribs area, as well as a completely numb right great toe.
