Avatar f tn Can the beta blocker Propranolol work on giant liver hemangiomas in adults? It looks to be working in reducing the size of infant hemangiomas. What are other options? I have 4 in my liver & the largest is 14cm. It grew because of pregnancy. I'm in good shape, 31 & 135 ilbs. My doctor referred me to a surgeon & didn't really want to discuss propranolol.
Avatar f tn I know propranolol is used for PTSD...but what should I ask for in the pharmacy and what is the dosage? Are there any serious effect if taken without proper knowledge?
Avatar n tn sometimes Tenex is also used in conjunction with stimulants to help control ADHD symptoms....first I have heard of inderal (brand name for propranolol) being used but makes sense...Always to remember to ask your doctor any questions about your meds and health care...the only stupid questions are the ones not asked....Also beta blockers are also given to help control migraines to regulate fluxs in BP...not because too high but slight changes can trigger migraines...
Avatar f tn More alarmingly, though, was the shape of her nose- the nose tip looks like a huge bulb, which sounds like a compound hemangioma (my older DD also has hemangiomas, so I know by the look that this is probably what my younger DD has). Is there anyone out there with experience with a nose tip hemangioma? Did you get it lasered? At what age does it get worse? Did anyone get surgery for their child? I'd appreciate any advice/stories you'd have to share....
Avatar f tn I discussed my occasional ED with my psych doc and we both feel it's anxiety related. He recommended propranolol 10mg just before sex. It's a beta-blocker mostly used to lower blood pressure but sometimes used for performance anxiety situations like stage fright, exam taking, job interviews etc. He's used it with other patients experiencing ED. I also do take the beta-blocker pindolol which has kept my BP at 125/70 for years.
1243620 tn?1274790697 I've used propranolol for over 10 years and it works amazingly well for me. I only take 10mg an hour before an important meeting etc (20mg for presentations or other situations where my anxiety feels worse) and it takes away the nasty physical symptoms (shaking and a racing heart for me). I recently started a new job and it helps so much to feel calmer while I settle in. Sometimes I only need 5mg so I cut the tablet in half.
Avatar m tn I used to take a slow-release Propranolol 80 mg every day, which caused severe tiredness and extreme fatigue, to the point that I was not able to think straight and sometimes could not even get out of bed. Apparently, Propranolol also inhibits the ability for you to burn fat, not to mention gastrointestinal issues. Depression is also significantly higher when taking Propranolol.
Avatar f tn So, I started researching it and have found that it is not generally used for someone with generalized anxiety but usually for those that have anxiety in certain situations. I wake up and go to sleep with a lump of anxiety in my chest. I also read that it is not good to use regularly for someone with asthma. Any suggestions or feedback on your experiences with this?
Avatar n tn Hey spf647, I had a cat scan on my bladder and kidneys in Feb of 2008. Small liver lesion 1.7 cm was noticed on my liver. Was told probably nothing and to get it checked in 6 months. Well follow-up cat scan showed 3 or 4 lesions in right lobe. Had a biopsy and it came back hemangiomas (benign clumps of blood vessels). Was sent to liver doctor and had a MRI. Got a call that said MRI didn't jive with hemangiomas. But showed 6 or 7 lesions in both lobes.
Avatar f tn I apologize if this is the wrong forum, but I think folks dealing with bone cancer may have the best experience to answer my question. I'm a 39 year old female with 17 years of thoracic back pain. I've gone to chiropractors, acupuncture, physical therapists, used TENS machine, muscle relaxers, celebrex, etc. Drs told me I have fibromyalgia, told me to do exercises to improve my posture, prescribe pain killers, etc.
Avatar f tn ll feel sedate for a few days to weeks, but many people enjoy that, some have used prescription propranolol just for anxiety. You mentioned concern of feeling shortness of breath, what exactly caused you to focus on that?
Avatar f tn Marrow signal within C5 and T2 bodies most compatible with intraosseous hemangiomas. Any advice to what this is meaning? What I took from it was its all hemangiomas, and from the research I have read most Dr. Like to state they do not cause symptoms! My symptoms have started stacking up! The pain is far worse along with fatigue, numbness, weakness, decreasing motor skills and frequent urination!! Please any information would be greatly appreciated!!!
Avatar f tn Yeah, Propanolol has a chance of helping you. Not sure whether suggesting to the doctor what to try is the right approach, but you could always ask if you're a good candidate for it (assuming you've been checked out properly, diagnosed properly -- which often means an MRI and a long discussion of history, habits, possible triggers).
Avatar f tn # The authors continue to regard MRI as the diagnostic test of choice for hepatic hemangioma at most centers. Nuclear medicine studies may be used to confirm the diagnosis when a probable hemangioma is detected on ultrasonography. Nuclear medicine studies may also help to clarify the nature of a lesion when the diagnosis is equivocal on CT or MRI...." It appears from this article that MRI is the test of choice.
Avatar m tn Your drug is also used for anxiety, usually social anxiety, so it might be helping. But when you're obsessive about something, the only way to overcome it is to stop doing it. If you think taking the drug isn't helping but is just obsessive, a good therapist, probably one who specializes in CBT, might help guide you through this. But if you feel you're going to need medication, well, you're on one used for anxiety that's easier to stop taking than most.
Avatar n tn But I used to get panic attacks in form of tachycardia and palpitations. I have been taking Propranolol for last 3 months and have tapered it off to 5 mg 2 times a day. Because of the persistent symptoms of panic attacks, my endocrinologist referred me to a psychiatrist. She diagnosed me as having Mixed Anxiety Depression. She prescribed me: 25 mg Sertraline - Once in a day 0.
Avatar n tn The vast majority of hemangiomas of the liver never cause symptoms or health problems and most are discovered incidentally at the time of testing for unrelated medical problems. Very large hemangiomas can cause symptoms such as pain, nausea, or enlargement of the liver. Rarely, larger hemangiomas can rupture, causing severe pain and bleeding into the abdomen.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your reply. I have sent off for this paper and am waiting for it to arrive. As you will have found out yourself when trying to find information on the internet the paper you cite is the only information available in respect of Eruptive Capillary Hemangiomas by Colver et al. The differential here is that adult Eruptive Capillary Hemangiomas are rare whereas Campbell de Morgan spots are common despite clinical similarities.
Avatar f tn Hi, can hemangiomas (lesions in the liver) be caused by gastroenteritis - if I have had it 2-3 times in a gap of few months?

Avatar f tn Urologist sent me for cat scan of my bladder and kidneys to check for bladder cancer because I used to smoke. Even though I had quit 14 years ago. Cat scan for that fine (slight blood normal for me because of few extra red blood cells). But radiologist noticed a barely visible nodule or lesion in my liver. Was told will check in 6 months-probably nothing. Well in Sept 2008 liver cat scan showed 3 or 4 lesions in right lobe all less than 2 cm. Doctor had me get a neck to pelvis scan same day.
Avatar n tn I am 41 years old.I too have hemangiomas.I have multiple hemangiomas,on T3,T5,L1,and the right side of my lumbar.I've been going to a doctor for over a year now.I'm on 3,700mgs of nerve pain medication. They really don't help much.I am know seeing a neurologist.I've had 2 MRI's.He too tells me that hemangiomas don't cause pain. All my pain seems to be in the exact spot [L1] on my lower back.I wish I could give him my pain for just one day.Pain is not too bad in the morning.
