inderal

Avatar n tn sometimes Tenex is also used in conjunction with stimulants to help control ADHD symptoms....first I have heard of inderal (brand name for propranolol) being used but makes sense...Always to remember to ask your doctor any questions about your meds and health care...the only stupid questions are the ones not asked....Also beta blockers are also given to help control migraines to regulate fluxs in BP...not because too high but slight changes can trigger migraines...
Avatar f tn Has anyone tried PROPRANOLOL for prevention of Migraines? I have struggled with headaches almost every day & Migraines aprox every 7-10 days for the last 10 years. Feverfew has helped but they now seem to be getting worst so I was thinking of asking my GP if I could try Propranolol.
Avatar f tn I have Chronic Migraines for the past 4 or 5 years. A Migraine that never goes away, I have tried several medications for it but nothing helps. I have a small cyst at the right side base of my brain, and was wondering that could be possibly a trigger in causing migraine.
Avatar n tn Hi, Thank you for your question. Usually, propranolol (beta blocker) is suggested for prophylactic treatment of migraine. Acute or prompt treatment require over the counter pain killers and triptans. Avoiding the triggering factors of cluster headache might help you in order to prevent its recurrence. Hope it helps.
Avatar f tn Results vary among people, but, for migraines, I was taking 240 mg Inderal LA (Propranolol slow release) every day, in divided doses, I was fine. One site I just viewed suggested dosing as 40mg twice a day of Standard Propranolol or 80 mg Slow Release once a day. For the Standard Propranolol, they listed 640 mg as the maximum per day, in divided doses, so you're clearing that by a wide margin.
Avatar f tn can propranolol be used for migraine prophylaxis in a patient with heart rate of 60 and family history of diabetes
Avatar f tn I know propranolol is used for PTSD...but what should I ask for in the pharmacy and what is the dosage? Are there any serious effect if taken without proper knowledge?
Avatar n tn I have been having migraines for the last 5 to 6 years and i want to know what i can do about them i get them more and more. I have a migraine atleast 7 times a month. I have no idea what to do about them and i hope that someone can answer my question?
Avatar f tn I do sympathize with your plight tho. I used to have migraines that went on for up to 8 weeks before I contracted status migrainosis.
Avatar f tn Ask your Dr if propranolol would be an option for you. It's technically a blood pressure med but is also used for a migraine preventative. It's been a life safer for me. I have had chronic migraines since age 5 and they got really bad during this pregnancy.
Avatar f tn I have been prescribed an increase in propranolol for migraines and anxiety.I was taking 120mg in the morning(extended release) and my doctor has raised the dose to 160mg. I had been taking the propranolol in the morning, but have read that the best time to take it is in the nighttime. Does anyone know what would be the best time morning or nighttime? Thank you.
Avatar f tn I discussed my occasional ED with my psych doc and we both feel it's anxiety related. He recommended propranolol 10mg just before sex. It's a beta-blocker mostly used to lower blood pressure but sometimes used for performance anxiety situations like stage fright, exam taking, job interviews etc. He's used it with other patients experiencing ED. I also do take the beta-blocker pindolol which has kept my BP at 125/70 for years.
Avatar f tn I have been feeling lightheaded, short of breath, arms feel heavy especially when i raise them up to shoulder level, head feels weird, no migraine pain. I have a history of migraines for about twenty years. I quit smoking 7 months ago, and started propranolol 20 mg once a day. I gained 30 pounds. My whole body is sore and Im having episodes where my upper body and sometimes legs just feel so heavy and tired I feel like Im going to pass out.
1125820 tn?1265284446 Analgesics are also sometimes used to treat migraines, but normally, these should be used in combination with triptans or if triptans fail to provide pain relief. Over-the-counter analgesics such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen and ASA can cause rebound headaches and it is often suggested that migraineurs avoid over-the-counter pain killers. Instead of over-the-counter analgesics, prescription analgesics that are more appropriate for migraine headaches are often prescribed.
Avatar n tn But I used to get panic attacks in form of tachycardia and palpitations. I have been taking Propranolol for last 3 months and have tapered it off to 5 mg 2 times a day. Because of the persistent symptoms of panic attacks, my endocrinologist referred me to a psychiatrist. She diagnosed me as having Mixed Anxiety Depression. She prescribed me: 25 mg Sertraline - Once in a day 0.25 mg Clonazepam - Twice in a day She also asked me to continue with Propranolol like I did.
967168 tn?1477584489 Most beta blockers Lisa are used for a multitude of purposes not just heart related...they are used for high blood pressure, migranes, heart issues to name a few. The wonders of beta blockers is as the above post says it blocks the adrenaline but i think more importantly that is relaxes the heart causing the blood flow to move much smoother thru out the body thus transferring more oxygen into the brain thus eliminating the migranes.
Avatar f tn The prescription medicines like triptans, rizatriptan and zolmitriptan come in various forms like nasal sprays, injections and tablets that dissolve on the tongue and can be used for you since nausea and vomiting is an issue. Prophylactic medicines like propranolol, pizotifen and valproate can be tried. It is important to know that any painkiller for headaches or migraines too often or too long can make the headache worse. Life style and dietary advice are important. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn t appear to have made a difference for my wife. She used it for almost 10 years at 100mg max for 50% of that time. She was tirated off of it in December 2014 and she had no change in symptoms. She has had better success with a treatment called EEG Neurofeedback. If you need to use a drug ask your Doctor if you can try a drug called Maxalt or similar drug (it is relatively costly though). EEG Neurofeedback is non invasive and one can sometimes see changes within a few visits.
Avatar f tn I am 47 and have suffered from migraines and headaches for about 6 years. The only thing that helped was Topamax. I used it about 6 years ago for about 2-3 months. Unfortunately, it made me extremely nauseous and my hair started to fall out. I am so desperate for relief that I asked my doctor to try it again, but at a lower dosage. The first day I took 25 mg and felt Like I had "morning sickness" all day. I am supposed to gradually increase to 200 mg by the end of the month.
1243620 tn?1274790697 I've used propranolol for over 10 years and it works amazingly well for me. I only take 10mg an hour before an important meeting etc (20mg for presentations or other situations where my anxiety feels worse) and it takes away the nasty physical symptoms (shaking and a racing heart for me). I recently started a new job and it helps so much to feel calmer while I settle in. Sometimes I only need 5mg so I cut the tablet in half.
Avatar f tn My Dr prescribed me Propranolol for my awful, frequent migraines. The first time I took it I felt weird. Now when I take it I feel like I am dope sick. i've tried every other medication for my migraines, but they make me feel like I just did a lot of cocaine! My heart races, my anxiety rises, I shake and can't sleep. Now I feel like it's either live with the migraines or be dope sick without migraines. HELP!!!!
Avatar f tn What are some things you can do for migraines??? I have always suffered from migraines and as of today am totally off my daily meds that help keep migranes away. Also I can't take my rescue meds.
1868815 tn?1412541757 The concurrent medications that I am currently taking now is Proprandol for anixety now, Amitripyline for my triptans (Day 7 still the same painful migraines), and Ambien for insomina. The nasal sprays I stop taking because of blood pressure was being low.
687729 tn?1397992727 I have been taking Klonopin and Propranolol for years, being treated for a benign tremor and migraines. I'm tired of feeling dopey all the time and I have quit the Klonopin and cut my Propranolol dosage in half. I've been getting leg cramps and headaches (not full-blown migraines, but nagging headaches that make me want to go back on the Klonopin). Can I expect these symptoms to disappear?
Avatar m tn I would ask you doctor about propranolol. It is a medicine used to prevent migraines. Been around forever. Is also a beta blocker and helps with anxiety. It is no addictive and I went from 10-15 per month to 1-2. Your doctor may not want you to try this if you have issues with blood pressure but it might be a good option.
778037 tn?1377986200 The efficacy of propranolol in the treatment of a migraine attack that has started has not been established, and propranolol is not indicated for such use. The initial dose is 80 mg Inderal daily in divided doses. The usual effective dose range is 160 mg to 240 mg per day. The dosage may be increased gradually to achieve optimum migraine prophylaxis. If a satisfactory response is not obtained within four to six weeks after reaching the maximum dose, Inderal therapy should be discontinued.
Avatar f tn * Orudis * Advil and Motrin (600-800mg) * Nalfon * Naprosyn(available in combo with Imitrex called Treximet) * Relafen * Aleve NSAID treatment should be started two to three days before the menstrual period starts and continued until the period ends. Because the therapy is of short duration, the risk of gastrointestinal side effects is limited.
Avatar f tn Why on earth were you on a beta-blocker (Heart medicine, Propranolol) for a sore throat? Someone made a mistake.. I would seek help Immediately. Though 2 weeks of propranolol wouldn't hurt you I would say you could probably have Incurred a bad side effect from the Propranolol.
