sometimes Tenex is also used in conjunction with stimulants to help control ADHD symptoms....first I have heard of inderal (brand name for propranolol) being used but makes sense...Always to remember to ask your doctor any questions about your meds and health care...the only stupid questions are the ones not asked....Also beta blockers are also given to help control migraines to regulate fluxs in BP...not because too high but slight changes can trigger migraines...

Has anyone tried PROPRANOLOL for prevention of Migraines? I have struggled with headaches almost every day & Migraines aprox every 7-10 days for the last 10 years. Feverfew has helped but they now seem to be getting worst so I was thinking of asking my GP if I could try Propranolol.

I have Chronic Migraines for the past 4 or 5 years. A Migraine that never goes away, I have tried several medications for it but nothing helps. I have a small cyst at the right side base of my brain, and was wondering that could be possibly a trigger in causing migraine.

Hi, Thank you for your question. Usually, propranolol (beta blocker) is suggested for prophylactic treatment of migraine. Acute or prompt treatment require over the counter pain killers and triptans. Avoiding the triggering factors of cluster headache might help you in order to prevent its recurrence. Hope it helps.

One site I just viewed suggested dosing as 40mg twice a day of Standard Propranolol or 80 mg Slow Release once a day. Ask your Dr if propranolol would be an option for you. It's technically a blood pressure med but is also used for a migraine preventative. It's been a life safer for me. I have had chronic migraines since age 5 and they got really bad during this pregnancy.

I have been prescribed an increase in propranolol for migraines and anxiety.I was taking 120mg in the morning(extended release) and my doctor has raised the dose to 160mg. t appear to have made a difference for my wife. She used it for almost 10 years at 100mg max for 50% of that time. She was tirated off of it in December 2014 and she had no change in symptoms. She has had better success with a treatment called EEG Neurofeedback. If you need to use a drug ask your Doctor if you can try a drug called Maxalt or similar drug (it is relatively costly though). EEG Neurofeedback is non invasive and one can sometimes see changes within a few visits.

I am 47 and have suffered from migraines and headaches for about 6 years. The only thing that helped was Topamax. I used it about 6 years ago for about 2-3 months. The concurrent medications that I am currently taking now is Proprandol for anixety now, Amitripyline for my triptans (Day 7 still the same painful migraines), and Ambien for insomina. The nasal sprays I stop taking because of blood pressure was being low.
