Avatar m tn m not finding much information on the side effects of this med. It could be possible that the sweating and hair loss could be side effects of this med. You can call your Dr or pharmacist. Either of them can tell you if these are side effects of this med.
Avatar f tn Has anyone tried PROPRANOLOL for prevention of Migraines? I have struggled with headaches almost every day & Migraines aprox every 7-10 days for the last 10 years. Feverfew has helped but they now seem to be getting worst so I was thinking of asking my GP if I could try Propranolol.
Avatar f tn Results vary among people, but, for migraines, I was taking 240 mg Inderal LA (Propranolol slow release) every day, in divided doses, I was fine. One site I just viewed suggested dosing as 40mg twice a day of Standard Propranolol or 80 mg Slow Release once a day. For the Standard Propranolol, they listed 640 mg as the maximum per day, in divided doses, so you're clearing that by a wide margin.
Avatar f tn When did you start taking Propranolol 20 mg? Side effects of propranolol include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, constipation, fatigue, insomnia, nausea, depression, memory loss, fever, lightheadedness, slow heart rate, low blood pressure, cold extremities, sore throat, and shortness of breath( ref: http://www.medicinenet.com/propranolol/page2.htm). It is possible that your symptoms are related to the medication you are taking.
Avatar n tn sometimes Tenex is also used in conjunction with stimulants to help control ADHD symptoms....first I have heard of inderal (brand name for propranolol) being used but makes sense...Always to remember to ask your doctor any questions about your meds and health care...the only stupid questions are the ones not asked....Also beta blockers are also given to help control migraines to regulate fluxs in BP...not because too high but slight changes can trigger migraines...
1125820 tn?1265284446 Hi MsConfusedone, You mention that you have been on almost everything, can you be more specific? It would help knowing exactly what you have tried so that I could suggest medications that you have not tried. Also, how many migraines do you get per month? Yes, most migraine medications do work well for most people. But, not everyone has the same success with all medications. For acute treatment of migraine headaches, first line treatment is triptans.
Avatar f tn Why on earth were you on a beta-blocker (Heart medicine, Propranolol) for a sore throat? Someone made a mistake.. I would seek help Immediately. Though 2 weeks of propranolol wouldn't hurt you I would say you could probably have Incurred a bad side effect from the Propranolol.
Avatar f tn I am 47 and have suffered from migraines and headaches for about 6 years. The only thing that helped was Topamax. I used it about 6 years ago for about 2-3 months. Unfortunately, it made me extremely nauseous and my hair started to fall out. I am so desperate for relief that I asked my doctor to try it again, but at a lower dosage. The first day I took 25 mg and felt Like I had "morning sickness" all day. I am supposed to gradually increase to 200 mg by the end of the month.
Avatar f tn Wow, I think I might actually be allergic to NSAIDs, too. I've been taking them regularly since June, and about a month ago, I added yet another one to my daily routine--aspirin, to prevent strokes. I ran out of Arthrotec last week, which I take for joint pain/swelling, and discovered yesterday that I had one pill left...so I took it, because I had a lot of writing to do for a final exam and didn't want my hands to be killing me all the while...
Avatar f tn this medicine is for a fast, irregular heartbeat...but I am taking them as a beta blocker for migraines and I do have to mix them with my pain medicine. If I go just one day and don't take them, I end up with a migraine the very next day....so those I have to mix. Luckily I will soon be off the pain medicine and then I am going to work on getting off the sleeping pills too.
Avatar n tn Hi, Thank you for your question. Usually, propranolol (beta blocker) is suggested for prophylactic treatment of migraine. Acute or prompt treatment require over the counter pain killers and triptans. Avoiding the triggering factors of cluster headache might help you in order to prevent its recurrence. Hope it helps.
Avatar m tn But it only lasts 3 months and you must keep going back every 3 months for more injections. No side effects as in taking dangerous meds. Do you have a neurologist? you must have one who is experienced in administering them. I highly recommend you get this effective treatment rather than another addictive drug!! It works, trust me. And your doctor has to document them and approve you for them. Get started on it--it's worth it--you won't be sorry!
Avatar f tn I have Chronic Migraines for the past 4 or 5 years. A Migraine that never goes away, I have tried several medications for it but nothing helps. I have a small cyst at the right side base of my brain, and was wondering that could be possibly a trigger in causing migraine.
Avatar f tn HAS ANYONE TAKIN A BETA BLOCKER FOR MIGRAINES.. LADALOL.. OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT..
Avatar f tn My Dr prescribed me Propranolol for my awful, frequent migraines. The first time I took it I felt weird. Now when I take it I feel like I am dope sick. i've tried every other medication for my migraines, but they make me feel like I just did a lot of cocaine! My heart races, my anxiety rises, I shake and can't sleep. Now I feel like it's either live with the migraines or be dope sick without migraines. HELP!!!!
709686 tn?1277432159 ve tried Lexapro, Cymbalta, Celexa, Effexor, Prozac and Amatryptaline and am unable to tollerate the side effects. If this is a legitamate med for anxiety I'm willing to give it a try.
Avatar f tn Yes, chronic pain and addiction are a tough combination. A couple things you should be aware of, though-- first, tramadol is an 'agonist' at opiate receptors, accounting for a portion of it's effects. Tramadol also has serotonergic properties that contribute to the analgesia from the medication.
Avatar n tn Hello My wife has been tacking atenolol beta blockers for a mitral valve prolapse condition for over 20 years and I believe some of the side effects may be creating serious side effect problems for her so we are looking to find a similar drug that would have the least side effects.
Avatar f tn To date I hvae been on three medications for my headaches (meloxicam, zomig and propranolol) but nothing seems to help. My headache has lasted for a month straight but it seems to be getting worse. My family doctor seems to think that I have sinus, tension and migraine headaches. The pain and sensitivity to light has become so bad that I have to sit in a dark and not move all night after a day at school. The pain is mainly behind my eye and on my nose bridge, then it spreeds to my forehead.
Avatar f tn posted this a second time to change the title* I want to try to stop taking propranolol for my migraines.. I still have them occasionally, but I wanted to see what it was like without it. I've been on it for about 3 years. Is it safe to stop this completely or do I have to lower the dosage and wean off it? I skipped one dose and my body was acting terribly. I could hardly sleep because my heart rate was so high.
