Avatar n tn Hi, Thank you for your question. Usually, propranolol (beta blocker) is suggested for prophylactic treatment of migraine. Acute or prompt treatment require over the counter pain killers and triptans. Avoiding the triggering factors of cluster headache might help you in order to prevent its recurrence. Hope it helps.
Avatar f tn Has anyone tried PROPRANOLOL for prevention of Migraines? I have struggled with headaches almost every day & Migraines aprox every 7-10 days for the last 10 years. Feverfew has helped but they now seem to be getting worst so I was thinking of asking my GP if I could try Propranolol.

Avatar f tn I have been prescribed an increase in propranolol for migraines and anxiety.I was taking 120mg in the morning(extended release) and my doctor has raised the dose to 160mg. I had been taking the propranolol in the morning, but have read that the best time to take it is in the nighttime. Does anyone know what would be the best time morning or nighttime? Thank you.
Avatar f tn Results vary among people, but, for migraines, I was taking 240 mg Inderal LA (Propranolol slow release) every day, in divided doses, I was fine. One site I just viewed suggested dosing as 40mg twice a day of Standard Propranolol or 80 mg Slow Release once a day. For the Standard Propranolol, they listed 640 mg as the maximum per day, in divided doses, so you're clearing that by a wide margin.
Avatar f tn I have Chronic Migraines for the past 4 or 5 years. A Migraine that never goes away, I have tried several medications for it but nothing helps. I have a small cyst at the right side base of my brain, and was wondering that could be possibly a trigger in causing migraine.

Avatar f tn To date I hvae been on three medications for my headaches (meloxicam, zomig and propranolol) but nothing seems to help. My headache has lasted for a month straight but it seems to be getting worse. My family doctor seems to think that I have sinus, tension and migraine headaches. The pain and sensitivity to light has become so bad that I have to sit in a dark and not move all night after a day at school. The pain is mainly behind my eye and on my nose bridge, then it spreeds to my forehead.

687729 tn?1397992727 I have been taking Klonopin and Propranolol for years, being treated for a benign tremor and migraines. I'm tired of feeling dopey all the time and I have quit the Klonopin and cut my Propranolol dosage in half. I've been getting leg cramps and headaches (not full-blown migraines, but nagging headaches that make me want to go back on the Klonopin). Can I expect these symptoms to disappear?
Avatar n tn There is always a strong pulsating throbbing sensation in my head, especially while lying down. It's so strong, it kinda feels like I move a bit with every pulse. My head feels as If it is not getting enough blood flow, there is alot of pressure all over and there is a loud swooshing sound in the back of my head. I've had a carotid doppler, MRI with contrast of my brain and temporal bones with inner ear, all normal. My echocardiogram was also normal. Bloodwork normal.
Avatar n tn it is probably the most used antidepressant for migraines. So, propranolol is not your only option, you have 3 other possible options for your daughter that you can discuss with your daughters doctor: - Other beta-blockers instead of the propranolol - Antidepressants, amitriptyline is usually the only one prescribed. - Anticonvulsants. The most popular one being topamax. The second most popular being Valproic acid...
778037 tn?1377986200 Hi, Inderal is indicated for the prophylaxis of common migraine headache. The efficacy of propranolol in the treatment of a migraine attack that has started has not been established, and propranolol is not indicated for such use. The initial dose is 80 mg Inderal daily in divided doses. The usual effective dose range is 160 mg to 240 mg per day. The dosage may be increased gradually to achieve optimum migraine prophylaxis.
Avatar f tn Why on earth were you on a beta-blocker (Heart medicine, Propranolol) for a sore throat? Someone made a mistake.. I would seek help Immediately. Though 2 weeks of propranolol wouldn't hurt you I would say you could probably have Incurred a bad side effect from the Propranolol.

Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with a transfer migraine last August. It started on Aug 1st and hasn't left me since. It's been an agonizing 6 months. It's called transfer migraine because it moves all over my head. I've never had one of those common migraines where the light bothers me or I get nauseated or see auras, etc. My migraines have been "light" headaches that stay with me for a few days: from 3 to five days at the most.

1125820 tn?1265284446 Tricyclic antidepressants are the only antidepressants that have really shown to work in trials for migraines. Tricyclic antidepressants are antidepressants like Amitriptyline or Nortriptyline. Let me know if there is anything in this list that you haven't tried yet! :) If you've tried all of these, then I will try to think of other medications. Keep in touch!

1243620 tn?1274790697 I take Propanolol for a tremor and have for many years while going from Prozac to Zoloft, and Lexapro with no problems. It is prescribed for various reasons with anxiety being one. But it is short acting meaning it doesn't stay in your system for more than a few hours. Many who take it for anxiety are public speakers who need to calm down right before making a speech. If your anxiety is severe there may be better ones for you, but only your doctor will know.
Avatar f tn I have been hospitalized in the ER three times in the past two weeks for bradycardia. All this suddenly started happening in the last two weeks. I start to feel weak, have a seizure, this last time, I fell down on the kitchen floor and hit my head pretty good. I am a 28 yr old female who has been on propranol for almost 4 years. I have a at home blood pressure monitor, that also checks my pulse and I do it religiously. My pulse has always been 65 to 80.
Avatar f tn I am 47 and have suffered from migraines and headaches for about 6 years. The only thing that helped was Topamax. I used it about 6 years ago for about 2-3 months. Unfortunately, it made me extremely nauseous and my hair started to fall out. I am so desperate for relief that I asked my doctor to try it again, but at a lower dosage. The first day I took 25 mg and felt Like I had "morning sickness" all day. I am supposed to gradually increase to 200 mg by the end of the month.
