I am taking methadone 5 mg tablets 3 times per day and Ultram 100 mg in the morning, 50 mg in the afternoon and 100 mg extended release in the evening. The reason for the mixed up dosage on the ultram is I am trying to get off of the extended release due to the cost. The problem I have is that before when I was taking 100 mg Ultram ER twice a day with the methadone as listed above my pain was controled, but since I have tried going down on it I have pain all the time again.
so he oncologist gave him a subscription for methadone to control the pain more evenly over the day along with a script for Ultram for breakthrough pain. my husband was told to take 10mg methadone 3x a day along with the 160mg of oxy for the first three days until the methadone started working and then to taper off the oxy and onto the ultram.
So the questions are: is taking this much narcotics safe?
I quit taking methadone at the beginning of the month and started taking the ultram to help with the methadone withdrawals so I could make it through the holiday. I took my last ultram yesterday around 8pm so it's now been almost 30 hrs and I feel like crap. I can't sleep and my legs are killing me. Thinking about calling off of work tomorrow...
It is easier to get off Vicodin than ultram (aka tramadol) because tram is synthetic and contains an antidepressant. Like sub and methadone, also synthetic, the withdrawal is long and arduous. Vicodin is the weaker of the narcotic pain meds and detox, although not fun, is over relatively quick. 1 to 2 weeks tops. Tram w/d lasts for months.
I noticed your comment about Ultram and I want to share with you that it is highly addictive and so many people here suffer because of it. In my honest opinion I feel it wont be long until it is added to the Narcotic list. If you HAVE to take it please make sure to advise your doctor you dont want any more than a 10 day supply at a very low dosage. Please keep in mind that the withdrawals from Ultram (aka Tramadol) are horrific! Take it from someone who knows first hand.
I have been addicted to marijuana, methadone and ultram for the past 25 years. I've been to rehab 3 times in the past 2 years. I am going to try to detox at home and could use some advice. I'm 54 and need help now!!!! I don't feel like I can make another day.
i was wondering kinda bout the same thing awhile ago and im 16 days clean today and i feel really good and i came off from prolly 600 mgs of ultrams ct i felts pretty crappy the first weak and a half but that friday i went to worok and it like healed me just geting my mind off it gave me tons of energy and i feel normal now

Like the physical withdrawal, it will get better as you get more clean days. And the frequency of those will become less and less as the days go by. You just have to remember that it will get better. I'm withdrawing off vicodin right now. I slowly tapered down, but am still feeling withdrawals from it. I know it feels like it will never end, but I promise you it will and you WILL start to feel better. And before you know it you'll start to feel like your old self again. Hang in there.
Despite of the many claims of illiterate doctors, Ultram is a synthetic opioid and is the worst-take it from a former user, and many others here can sat the same-Its wd effects are very difficult to handle and considered by people that have use them and other painkillers, that Ultram is the most difficult to w/d and the more painful.
carrie i am sorry you are going through this right now being pregnant, when you are researching information on suboxone please be aware that there are pro sub sites and sites where people are 100% agaisnt sub, a middle ground is hard to find, medhelp has both ends covered

Days 1-3 Ultram about 300-400mg...Days 4-6 Ultram about 250mg, Multivitamins and Magnesium Supplement. Day 7 Ultram again about 400mg, Multivitamins, Magnesium, Exercise, 5 hour energy shot, it was a little rough for some reason, could have been the combination of things.
Awoke this morning telling myself...I will not bow...I will not break...I ill do whatever it takes....obviously the Song "I will not bow" by Breaking Benjamin....

AS for the doctors, i hate to sound so belittling as they are the ones who went to med school, but i believe allot of docs are not aware of addiction and as for Ultram, a lot of docs believe its not an opiate and or habit forming. I was going to the pain clinic for legit pain and all he did was continue to feed my addiction, and i would tell him that i was using more than prescribed, so he wanted me to go on methadone and thank the Lord my dear friends on here told me HECK NO!!!

Hello all. I'm a stage IV cancer patient and I've been using methadone for about three years after going through all the others to treat my pain. Thankfully I've been in remission all that time, but I've still had pain from the cancer, which was in my spine, as well as the drugs I take to prevent the cancer from coming back.
