Please help I got on methadone 4 years ago due to oxycontin and hydrocodone addiction that had been going on for 6 years......I was up close to 100mgs and have weaned down to 60mgs of methadone. I want off so bad and to top it off I have severe panic attacks and never dealt with my underlying issues regarding the addiction so I started abusing the xanax my Psychiatrist gave me.

was on klonpin 11 yrs prior to xanax.. but just methadone and xanax since 04...i know about the mix or my combo vey well on very low doses of each..the xanax 0.5 5aday..methadone 10 mgs aday..was at 1 time 160 mgs i detoxed at home 2 yrs ago..got away from it 45 days then back at the dose im at..now the questshion?? my shrink has added lamictail to my combo,,i asked him if it would had any further respatory depression..he just kinda nodded his head..wating oin his nest 8 min patient..

Alprazolam (Xanax) and methadone are highly addictive narcotics, both physically and psychologically. These two drugs should never be 'mixed' or even taken relatively close to one another unless the reaction is literally being monitired by a doctor and/or medical staff. I am an addict and I know from experience how dangerous this combination can be, trust me; you're playing with fire.

You will have to call the doctor and tell him what you were taking and ask him if it is okay. We cant and wont give you the info you are looking for. We will help you get thru this emotionally.......

I have have been on methadone & zanax for 7yrs 40mg methadone & 31/2 mg zanax and slowly tappering off the methadone 5mg a week to reach 30mg to get on bupenorphen for 1to2 months so i can get off methadone because of longer w/d so i have heard i would appriciate any info thanks

I've been on Methadone 30mgs for 10 years. I was also on an antidepressant, Xanax, and Buspar. I also used Neurontin for chronic pain. I got fired from my pain management Dr. Because I continued to use the Xanax, after 3 warnings. Then my medical doc dismissed me from his care, saying I was a drug seeker. That was not true. I had called and asked for Xanax with refills, and Buspar. He saw those calls on my chart and jumped to conclusion. Also told me he doesn't prescribe pain meds.

Hello and welcome. Yes that is an extremely high dosage of methadone. Xanax and methadone are both respiratory And central nervous system depressants. They are very dangerous to take together. With that being said you need to start to taper off of both meds. A proper taper will take about a year. Are you seeing a counselor and attending support groups? There is freedom from the chains and bondage of addiction. Keep the faith.

Yes, from someone he knows, he used to take norcos, then got off those and started xanax, then off that and now methadone mostly, but he's been taking the bars more. Before the four he wasn't as bad, then he took the four and he seemed better some and was able to sleep a little.

I have 15 2 mg zanax, a high tolerance, but want to know if combining my 60 mg of meth and those xanax will end it. And if so, best chances 3 hours after I have taken the meth? or does it matter.I will be pissed off if it doesn't. My other investigation is driving the car in a garage and leaving it run for awhile and going out there and sitting down. I know you think I am selfish. I am tired of waking up sick with worry.

If rehab isnt an option, then crawl into bed and detox at home- not with Methadone (in my opinion). Just cold turkey it and get yourself to a meeting asap! But really try for a rehab facility.. you may be able to get lots of info at your loccal NA meetings too.

1 2013 an said she was changing and going into rehab , but little did I know she had got her hands on methadone and KNOWING it kills people she took it and Xanax! And it took her life and not just hers but mine and my sisters and my brothers and her husband~who can barely go on day to day without her!:( Its WILL kill you she had taken the combination a dozen times, but this time it took her! She had very high tolerance but she couldn't hold up to it!

I've struggled with methadone and xanax addiction for about 4 years. Most of this has been illegal use, but I am now attending my third methadone clinic. I don't have a prescription for the xanax, so I have to get off it. The clinic reduces my methadone dose 5mgs every 2 weeks if I keep testing dirty for benzos. I was taking 2 bars a day but have tapered down to half a bar the past few days, which is 1 mg.

I'm on methadone mantinece and xanax 1mg 2x a day and they just did a test and sent out for breakdown, they are telling me valum came up in the test and i have NO clue why, someone please explain why this could have happened?

If you have Xanax in your system, they may drop you and a CT detox of methadone will be pretty miserable.

I just kept reading horror stories about methadone and xanax though. scared the heck outta me! Sooooo, hopefully if I can take my darn xanax so I can sleep, I can stay at the LOWEST dosage of norco possible for my tapering that I desperately am trying to do. thanks again and I wish I would've listened in the 1st place about the methadone. EVIL drug and I'm almost glad it disagreed with me as much as it did.

I will assume you are under the care of a doctor for your methadone maitanance. I am very naive about methadone w/d and did not know that anxiety was a symptom of detox. Your doctor may have been very smart in stopping the Xanax when he did. It is used as a very short term med and it pretty much maxes out around four months. After that time, it looses it's efficacy in fighting anxiety.

vicki is spot on about methadone and xanax. I have been on methadone for 7 years and every doctor I`ve ever talked to has said that methadone and xanax is a bad mix. It is also true that tapering is the safest thing at his level. He needs to get to a much lower dose if he wants to go CT. Methadone withdrawls last a long time and the higher the dose, the worse the withdrawls are. Also check out the Thomas Recipe.

Have you discussed with your doctor the risk of combining xanax and methadone? I was on a different benzo when on methadone but I also smoked at the time so I think that had something to do with the issues I had.

I WAS STILL DOING 1 1/2 MGS OF THE XANAX,,AND I STILL DONT FEEL GOOD...THE SYMTOMS IM HAVING ARE FAST HEART RATE WHEN WALKING ..AND ITS FAST .. You need to get with Dr and taper Xanax, you CANNOT quit Xanax CT. It can cause seizures. You are on a large dose and need a proper taper from Dr. if poss.
