methadose

Avatar f tn Boith drugs have a long half life so a long wd period, both drugs are narcotics...sub being the stronger of the two drugs mg for mg. Methadone is approved for pain relief in the US, sub is not. Main thing is she gets clean...neither drug is a miracle worker so if someone tells u so, dont listen.
Avatar f tn I was originally put on it for pain management but after a falling out with the dr wound up at a methadone clinic...I went from a moderate dose all the way up to 150ml as I built up a tolerance to the drug ..at first it managed my pain but then it quit working and left me with a huge addiction to feed ...I finely said enough is enough and decided to get off...when I went to the clinic they said they would do a medicaly supervises withdrawal it would be 2 ml every 2 weeks...
Avatar m tn methadone is gd for pain but it doesnt last 24 hrs like they say,if it lasted longer and we didnt get a tolerance it would b gr8 but i didnt like it much.i was on methadone yrs ago and i hav hep c no hep c symptoms then i got on the methadone and i got all these symptoms which i thought was hep c but it wasnt. on tx now but just to let u no how i felt on methadone was really tired most of the time, sweaty, chills, moody, very achey etc especially after u get tolerance to it.
5772022 tn?1373978536 I was put on methadone 14 years ago for chronic pain. 4 years ago I was taken off of it cold turkey. In desperation a got into a methadone clinic. I'm finding that the liquid methadone doesn't seem to work on pain as the pills did. Is this In my head or is there really a difference. Also is this site for online addiction support or is it medical advice. Kind of confused on that issue.
408795 tn?1324935675 I was on Methadone for 1 year exactly almost to the day. I went in for treatment after abusing pain pills as well as fetanyl pacthes among other things. That was in 2006 and has nothing to do with my Hep C as I just found out I had it this past January. My point is it is defiantly likely not to have you trapped on it for life cause I am living proof that you can get off it you just have to want to not trade one thing for the other.
Avatar f tn Even if you were taking percocets, I would still tell you that suboxone is a lot smarter choice for you as far as a treatment program goes for you. Methadone is very addictive, suboxone is a swell, but it takes longer, and the withdrawals are a little milder than methadone. Methadone wd's are by far the worst out of any opiate/opioid out there. Both suboxone and methadone last a long time compared to norcos or percs, whereas they last for 4-6 hrs.
Avatar f tn I need some honest opinions please............ I recently started a methadone treatment program. I am doing the 6 month program. This is my 3rd day of treatment. I am starting at one dose of 30mg of methadone. Is this a good number to start with??? TOO HIGH of a number?? PRETTY LOW of a number??? I have hears many horror storeis of people and methadone, about trading one drug for another and all that.
Avatar n tn I am on Methadone for chronic pain management. Did you try any other drugs first? it's a little strange if you did not try any other medications and they put on Methadone to begin with. Did you discuss that with the doctor? Methadone builds up in the system very quickly in some people. I just started taking it 2 weeks ago. I was very weak, very sleep. My blood pressure is normally low but it dropped to 115/50. The Methadone built up so quickly in my system.
Avatar m tn I was curious because this is a recommended treatment for a friend and it seems like there would be a conflict between the two treatments.
631581 tn?1224844661 Not for addicts but for those who have USED or are USING methadone for chronic pain. I would really love to talk with more people who are in the same shoes I am in. But then I've had chronic pain since I was 17. I'm 34 now and it seems like it just might be my life. Without methadone I was taking 4 Advil every 8 hours and I've ruined my stomach. So there's another trade off. The fact is there doesn't seem to be an answer.
Avatar f tn TN is not a methadone friendly state. My pain management specialist had me on methadone for 12 years after trying other optoids with no success. I regained about 70% of my ability to function and good pain relief. I was able to go back to work after a year in bed. With the controversery over the increase of methadone related deaths my doctor decided to wean me off methadone and put me on pain patches, then morphine, then oxy everything.
1476285 tn?1287337784 I am interested in info from anyone doing the new 3-drug regime w/ interferon, ribavirin and telaprevir who are also taking suboxone. I am currently on suboxone: 3/5's to 1/2 tab per day. I wasn't put on it for drug abuse but I was on pain meds (lortab & fentenayl patch) for chronic pain. I went on suboxone to get off the pain mgmt regime.
939983 tn?1262528060 5 mg of hydrocodone is equivalent to about 15 mg of methadone. But this is for single dose not for long term pain management treatment. Most physicians beleive in the good practice to start low, go slow. Remember that methadone builds up in your system. It is stored in your body tissues. So it may take days before the full effectiveness of methadone is realized. Methadone levels in the blood will continue to increase for five days from the initial dose.
Avatar f tn Actually there are several very good articles on the use of methadone for long term treatment of chronic pain. It is beleived to be the narcotic least apt to be abused and has the least side effects. I'm sorry I forgot the author (a respected PM Physician) of the best and most informative article but maybe someone here will remember. I found it by goggling it. Dosage may have to be increased in time but again they beleive not as often as other opiates.
Avatar f tn The one bad thing about methadone usage for long periods, the doses for pain always increase over time leading to very high dosages and severe dependence. In my experience with suboxone, it had no noticeable pain relieving benefits. From what I understand the best pain relief that buprenorphine can provide comes from Buprenex which I believe only comes as injections.
Avatar f tn I plan on detoxong from the methadone before I start treatment and I hope it is the methadone thats got my joints like this. My hands swell so bad in the morning. My 4 year old neice noticed it one morning and was like look at your hand, it looks weird, lol! It was one of them that was really bad because I had been working hard, painting with that hand the day before.
Avatar f tn I was previously on a variety of pain medications, oxicodone ms cotin I was then told from clinic I would have to go to a pain center and they would not be able to help me I then found out how addicted I was I went searching for a pain center to no avail and ended up finding a dr that would give methadone and the stuff they give to herion addics I could not believe I was now considered a addict I ended up seeing this dr and he gave me the methadone for pain 60mls a day I was doing fine at first
Avatar f tn Last week I got a letter informing me I was dismissed from treatment from my Pain Clinic, after five years. Methadone did not show in my urine drug screen, despite the fact that I took methadone, literally every single day since the day it was prescribed (almost 4 years ago). Thank God, my PCP put me on tramadol which works very well for what is excruciating, gut wrenching pain in my back and hips.
631581 tn?1224844661 Since it was considerably less expensive than oxycontin I agreed to try it, and as it was as effective for pain control as oxycontin was I have continued with methadone for about 5 years now, with vicodin es for breakthrough pain. I take 20mg x 3 per day Basically I have sufficient pain control to function at about an 80% normal ability. Several months ago I was diagnosed as having seriously depleted calcium.
Avatar f tn Also, have your regular doctor write up a medical report documenting his reasons for not prescribing methadone as treatment for your chronic pain and bring this documentation to your appointment with your insurance dr. I agree it is an uphill battle but don't give up and please keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Due to methadone’s totally synthetic structure (man made chemical), its pharmacological effects are longer lasting than those of other opiate drugs, allowing for once-daily administration in pain management and opiate treatment programs such as methadone clinics. However, the pain-relieving effects are shorter than the pharmacological half-life, so that dosing for pain control usually requires multiple doses per day. Depending on its form, Methadone can also be known as Dimepheptanol.
Avatar f tn Now why would you feel guilt for that? My doc has me on methadone for pain, I also wanted to be on it in hopes I could control my drug cravings, my Dr. doesn't know about any addiction problems. Sometimes I wonder if suboxone wouldn't be better for me, would need a different doctor though.
Avatar n tn Many anesthesiologists and doctors/surgeons are unfamiliar with the proper equalanegesic dosage of morphine for patients on methadone maintenance, or using methadone for pain. As a result, they make the mistake of giving you too little morphine when they are using that in place of or in addition to your methadone dose for pain. Sometimes they even think that the methadone you normally take will help address your post-surgical pain. This is in fact NOT the case at all.
