lyrica

Avatar n tn You can also take over-the-counter pain medicines, such as acetaminophen, aspirin, or ibuprofen, to help reduce pain during an attack of shingles and antibiotics to prevent any infection. Please consult a dermatologist and get them prescribed. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar n tn If they get chicken pox from my shingles, that is NOT all. They become candidates for shingles down the road, and I would not wish that on my worst enemy.
Avatar f tn I have had shingles since august 2006. it has developed into postherpetic neuralgia. i have been on Lyrica and use pain patches (Lidocaine) since that time. nothing really seems to help. some people have very mild side effects from the shingles and others, like me, have had additional problems. tell your sister to be more insistent/persistent with her dr. in regard to her treatment for both her bp plus shingle issue. hope this helps.
Avatar m tn Its a non narcotic nerve pain reliever, given to shingles patients. Shingles is a painful virus caused from chicken pox. It causes nerve pain. I would take it slow, as the drugs you are on are heavy duty. Give yourself a time frame, say 30 days, to taper completely off the methadone, then give yourself another 30 days to taper off the Xanax with the help of Lyrica or some other non narcotic drug.
Avatar n tn s Rite Shingles Relief? It works for Shingles and PHN. My dad used it and he said it really worked for him. He was kind of wary at first because I bought it offline for him but it seems to have gotten rid of his pain.
Avatar n tn I have been consistent on antiviral medication and was prescribed lyrica for pain. My left eye is extremely irritable and half of my neck, more so in the back, skin is extemely warm to touch, neck is beat red along with 2 more blisters under ear area. I had the impression that shingles stayed in one area but my neck is under a large about of pain that felt exactly like the left side of my face.
Avatar f tn I tried it for about a year, and I gained over twenty pounds. It never helped with my fibro pain, and it increased fatigue. I reccomend against it! By the way it is spelled "Lyrica" pronounced "leer-ih-cah". And yes it was originally created for diabetic nueoropathy, and pain after shingles. It was only approved for fibro last year.
Avatar m tn I've had them but caught it within 48 hours so my primary care put me on acyclovir, which cuts the duration as well as the aeverity. I think you might be too far in for an antiviral. Narcotics aren't the best way to treat shingles pain. Ask for neurontin or lyrica. Cymbalta may work but that takes longer to kixk in. Treating shingles pain is pretty basic. If your doctor doesn't take your pain seriously, you might want to look at finding a new doctor.
Avatar n tn Understand that there is no cure, unfortunately. Possible treatments include drugs like Lyrica and Neurontin - and I'm not a fan of either one. I would consider alternative treatment like nutritional therepies for chronic pain, exercise, accupuncture, yoga and meditation. I'm sorry but you have a chronic pain syndrome that is often quite difficult to treat. My personal advise is the avoid drug treatments if at all possible.
Avatar m tn then i would have to say give it a try, it is pricey, and sometimes insurance dosent always cover it, so if not covered by insurance, ask about neurontin, i take neurontin 600 mgs three times a day and it helps with my everyday pain quite well. lyrica and neurontin are in the same class of drugs and are not physically addictive.
Avatar f tn I tried Lyrica and Gabapenpentin with horrible side effects also tried amitriplyn and am on Celexa for depression. I use lidocaine cream and sometimes baclofin but Percoset has been the only thing to take the fire like pain away. Problem is I think it's not working as well as it used to 10 mg 3 times daily. Is it the generic version that is the problem should I ask for name brand?
Avatar m tn My Dr was going to prescribe me lyrica for shingles pain but I was hesitant and refused at the time. I did some research on it when I got home and actually found that lyrica is approved in eroupe for anxiety. I also read reviews of people taking it for other things and found that it helped with their anxiety. Glad to know it is working for you. What dosage are you on?Where your prescribed the lyrcia for anxiety or something else? Hope it continues to help you.
Avatar n tn I checked online and it says that LYRICA is indicated to treat Diabetic Nerve Pain, Pain after Shingles, and Fibromyalgia. I would be honest with your doctor and let him/her know the LYRICA is not helping and you would like to try something else. With most PM doctors you have to try all the non-narcotics and anti-inflammatory drugs before they give you anything else. I would try and be open minded and try everything they offer. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Following a mild case of shingles - taking antiviral and Lyrica meds, I ended up in the ER with nausea, loose bowels, feeling like vomiting and pain in my right ribcage area The dignosis was a diseased gallbladder. It has been three weeks since my surgery. All is well except for the tenderness - achiness in my right ribcage. I am taking Tylenol as needed. This discomfort occurs periodically. My question is whether this is coming from the shingles or from the gallbladder surgery.
Avatar f tn I cannot take lyrica or skalin or neurotin for my aches and pains i had such a headache from the lyrica and that was one pill low dose it was like i was on hallucigens the room was like a picture show and i had to do a 12 hr shift i told my boss my medication is not agreeing so if i had to leave they knew why soo then the skalin for muscle pain kept me a zombie i was in a fog with 1 pill and could not function for 12 hrs so the neurotin for my shingles neuroapathy was like bees stinging my
Avatar f tn And as if this wasn’t enough, the FDA recently approved two new drugs, Lyrica and Cymbalta, for use in PHN. Lyrica can cause dry mouth, dizziness, leg swelling, and memory loss. Cymbalta can cause nausea, constipation, fatigue, and both insomnia and excessive sleepiness. Drug-free ways to wipe out post-shingles nerve pain in as little as 10 days Why so many doctors are so quick to prescribe any of these “remedies” is beyond me.
Avatar n tn It broke the itch/scratch cycle i had suffered from for about 20 years. I now take lyrica only on occasion and it has kept it under control.
Avatar f tn For the past 2 months I have been trying to deal with shingles I have had them in my left eye and going up into my forhead and hair. I have finally been told the eye is doing well but the pain is terrible. the only relief I get is to hold a wet cloth over that part of my face. The itching is unberable at time I feel I could reach in and pull the eye out.
Avatar f tn When I try to find info on gababantin I find that it's for the aftermath of shingles. What is the connection to ms and why do ms patients take it?
Avatar f tn Also at one year mark for post herpetic neuralgia from shingles. Neurontin, Lyrica, various pain meds, cortisone shots in back....nothing helps. Internist/neurologist/pain mgmt. specialist/ physical therapy....nothing helps. Now have intermittent burning, stabbing pains in back, side, legs. I also have rheumatoid arthritis. I don't know which way to turn!
Avatar n tn , was previously approved to treat seizures, as well as pain from damaged nerves that can happen in people with diabetes (diabetic peripheral neuropathy) and in those who develop pain following the rash of shingles. Side effects of Lyrica including sleepiness, dizziness, blurry vision, weight gain, trouble concentrating, swelling of the hands and feet, and dry mouth. Lastly, Paxil can also be associated with weight gain. Again as stated before Wellbutrin has a lower incidence of weight gain .
Avatar f tn Since October I have tried Lortab (3 strengths), gabapentin, Lyrica, Ultram, Relafen, Zonegran, and Trileptal. I am also on Cymbalta and Ambien. Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn this was 3 weeks ago. I was prescribed prednisone and Valaciclovir. this worked well, and the shingles is all but gone, rash almost cleared up, pain in leg gone. after 3 days of the treatment, I started getting a pain around my right eye. it may or may not have to do with shingles, i'm thinking its not related but I guess it could be. the pain felt like eye strain, so I went back to the Dr he said it wasn't related to shingles, and washed it out, didn't help.
Avatar f tn ve had this since February (shingles in January). Nothing helps relieve it and tried to enroll in a clinical trial, but couldn't because of Chronic Kidney Disease and arthritis pain. Any suggestions for relief would be greatly appreciated. Presently am taking 600 mg of Gabapentin. Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn oms-gabapentin 300 mg was prescibed to my mom for nerve pain and its a seizure medication? Any explinations she isnt epaleptic?
Avatar m tn This was an excellent choice, as it helps with my anxiety, I use less clonazepam and I feel less drowsy. Lyrica did give me blurred vision and extra paranoia at the start, and that was indeed awful for the first couple weeks as I upped my dosage! After the initial troubles, I found that it really was better than gabapentin for me now. I have not gained weight, but remain the same weight I call my meds weight. I just try to remain active and not pig out.
