Common Questions and Answers about Lyrica dosage shingles

lyrica

Avatar m tn I'm glad you posted this. My Dr was going to prescribe me lyrica for shingles pain but I was hesitant and refused at the time. I did some research on it when I got home and actually found that lyrica is approved in eroupe for anxiety. I also read reviews of people taking it for other things and found that it helped with their anxiety. Glad to know it is working for you. What dosage are you on?Where your prescribed the lyrcia for anxiety or something else? Hope it continues to help you.
Avatar f tn Gabapentin and Lyrica are often used for nerve pain. Less commonly Clonidine, an old blood pressure med, is used. Also some antidepressants like Cymbalta and Nortryptiline are used in treating nerve pain. Nerve pain can be very difficult to treat. My doctor tried me on many combinations and dosages of medications before we found what works best for me. Where is your nerve pain and what have you tried to treat it?
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Shingles on Monday. Although i had only one small red spot, I experienced three days of extremely intense back and uterine pain prior to my doctor visit. On Tuesday, a rash, wrapping around my middrift ,appeared. The pain intensified to the point of no return. (I suffered nerve damage from a botched angiogram in July/09, so I know pain well.) My question is: Would the Valtrex (antiviral) be ineffective because it was administered after the intense pain had begun?
Avatar f tn I have had shingles since august 2006. it has developed into postherpetic neuralgia. i have been on Lyrica and use pain patches (Lidocaine) since that time. nothing really seems to help. some people have very mild side effects from the shingles and others, like me, have had additional problems. tell your sister to be more insistent/persistent with her dr. in regard to her treatment for both her bp plus shingle issue. hope this helps.
Avatar n tn If they get chicken pox from my shingles, that is NOT all. They become candidates for shingles down the road, and I would not wish that on my worst enemy.
Avatar f tn That made me laugh - Nothing personal - but that was exactly how I felt on the low dosage of Lyrica and it kept getting worse the whole week that I took it. It went from feeling like I was lightly drunk and hungover to feeling like I was crabwalking sideways with a hella headache and completely nauseated.. I got switched to ULTRAM (Tramadol) and that has been working GREAT for me - but I take the highest dosage allowed. But it WORKS!!!
382218 tn?1341181487 A simple thing to try is the addition of a small dose of amitriptyline (20mg or less) at night. It can be great for additional nerve pain relief, but is a bit sedating so it is best used at night. I'm with your physician. If the Neurontin seems to be helping, but not enough, try it for several weeks and maybe request something to boost it a bit like the amitriptyline.
Avatar n tn was diagnosed with shingles on the left side of my face about 4 days ago. I have been taking valtrex for 3 days now twice a day. It seemed to be effective for the several ulcers on tip of tongue and underneath tongue. Currently going through testing to find underlying cause such as suspected auto immune disease. I have been consistent on antiviral medication and was prescribed lyrica for pain.
Avatar f tn Contrary to what the commercials say, Lyrica wasn’t actually tailor made for Fibromyalgia. Instead, it’s a drug that has historically been used for everything from epilepsy to diabetic neuropathy, and even the pain associated with shingles.
Avatar m tn I've had them but caught it within 48 hours so my primary care put me on acyclovir, which cuts the duration as well as the aeverity. I think you might be too far in for an antiviral. Narcotics aren't the best way to treat shingles pain. Ask for neurontin or lyrica. Cymbalta may work but that takes longer to kixk in. Treating shingles pain is pretty basic. If your doctor doesn't take your pain seriously, you might want to look at finding a new doctor.
Avatar m tn Hi, Lyrica shouldn't be addictive at the low doses used for neuropathy. My grandmothers been on it or the other derivative, gabapentin, for years. Just take it at low doses. It works wonders for treating nerve pain though.
526311 tn?1229286330 t know how much I can help but my hubby takes Lyrica 600mg a day which is the maximum dosage. He is also on oxycontin, both for severe back pain. The oxycontin he craves and is addicted to (currently tapering down from) but the Lyrica he does not crave at all and sometimes doesn't take any at all during the day.
Avatar n tn I checked online and it says that LYRICA is indicated to treat Diabetic Nerve Pain, Pain after Shingles, and Fibromyalgia. I would be honest with your doctor and let him/her know the LYRICA is not helping and you would like to try something else. With most PM doctors you have to try all the non-narcotics and anti-inflammatory drugs before they give you anything else. I would try and be open minded and try everything they offer. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I also took Lyrica for approx. 6 mos. My dosage was 75mg. per day. While it did help, I didn't care for the cognitive side-effects so I discontinued it. The dosage will be different depending upon what is being treated and how the drug interacts in your body. For some a small dose is effective; others will work up to the higher amts. over time. I hope it is effective for you and you get some relief soon.
Avatar m tn has anyone ever been perscribed Lyrica for cronic pain. If so how much do you take, and how long did it take to notice any results. I started taking 50MG's 3X's a day. I started last Tuesday, and haven't noticed any difference in my pain. any feedback would be great.
Avatar f tn Following a mild case of shingles - taking antiviral and Lyrica meds, I ended up in the ER with nausea, loose bowels, feeling like vomiting and pain in my right ribcage area The dignosis was a diseased gallbladder. It has been three weeks since my surgery. All is well except for the tenderness - achiness in my right ribcage. I am taking Tylenol as needed. This discomfort occurs periodically. My question is whether this is coming from the shingles or from the gallbladder surgery.
1168718 tn?1464983535 the pain before was a 20 on the pain scale felt likea ice pick being jabbed into my legs over and over again.
645800 tn?1466860955 Well I tried out the new lower dosage (50mg caps) of Lyrica last night. At least I wasn't so out of it that I didn't even remember going to bed. In fact quite the opposite. It took five hours for me to get sleepy enough to even try going to sleep and my vision got very blurry. But I'm not sure I can blame either on the Lyrica. I was kind of anxious about how this dosage would effect me due to what happened with the higher dosage.
Avatar f tn And as if this wasn’t enough, the FDA recently approved two new drugs, Lyrica and Cymbalta, for use in PHN. Lyrica can cause dry mouth, dizziness, leg swelling, and memory loss. Cymbalta can cause nausea, constipation, fatigue, and both insomnia and excessive sleepiness. Drug-free ways to wipe out post-shingles nerve pain in as little as 10 days Why so many doctors are so quick to prescribe any of these “remedies” is beyond me.
Avatar f tn For the past 2 months I have been trying to deal with shingles I have had them in my left eye and going up into my forhead and hair. I have finally been told the eye is doing well but the pain is terrible. the only relief I get is to hold a wet cloth over that part of my face. The itching is unberable at time I feel I could reach in and pull the eye out.
10704670 tn?1412128715 I'm wondering if one can build up a "tolerance" to a Lyrica dosage? I've been taking Lyrica for fibromyalgia for several years, and have been taking a low dosage of just 75 mg. once nightly. For over a month, now, I've been having achy joints in wrists, elbows, and feet -- along with ache behind my eyes, nervousness, and worst of all, "flu-like" feelings going throughout the body.
