Avatar f tn The shingles disappeared, pain on touch lessened but deep aching, sometimes striking, pain persisted. Returning to penna. I went to family physician and was put on Lyrica 75mg. twice a day and percodan as needed. After several months on this medication, Lyrica, Dr. increased to 75mg. 4x’s per day (300 daily). Stayed at this level again for several months, no appreciable difference.
Avatar n tn I have suffered with postherpetic neuralgia for six and one half years. It has not improved over the last 4 years. The problem is pain, burning, itching and stinging. The problem area starts just below my left eye and goes up through my eyebrow, forehead and through my scalp to about the crown of my head . It is approximately 3" wide from eye to crown. It hurts, stings, burns and itches 24/7 it never stops.
Avatar f tn I tried Lyrica and Gabapenpentin with horrible side effects also tried amitriplyn and am on Celexa for depression. I use lidocaine cream and sometimes baclofin but Percoset has been the only thing to take the fire like pain away. Problem is I think it's not working as well as it used to 10 mg 3 times daily. Is it the generic version that is the problem should I ask for name brand?
Avatar n tn t see a doctor until Monday) I had read about this, My brother in-law M.D. also sent me Fed Ex Lyrica for the PHN or postherpetic neuralgia which is the pain you get after rash has healed. So four 800 mg.
Avatar f tn I have had shingles since august 2006. it has developed into postherpetic neuralgia. i have been on Lyrica and use pain patches (Lidocaine) since that time. nothing really seems to help. some people have very mild side effects from the shingles and others, like me, have had additional problems. tell your sister to be more insistent/persistent with her dr. in regard to her treatment for both her bp plus shingle issue. hope this helps.
922972 tn?1243985128 Greetings! I am a 51 year old female. In the fall of 2000 I noticed a rash on my right breast in the shape of an upside down "T". By the spring of 2001, one half of my right breast was flaming red with no blisters. I was placed on antibiotics by a Dermatologist with no help. There was no itching, burning or pain until the spring of 2001. I began to have stabbing pain in my right breast, as well as under my right breast across my ribs.
Avatar m tn It is a complication of Shingles, which is caused by the chickenpox (herpes zoster) virus. Postherpetic neuralgia affects nerve fibers and skin, causing burning pain that lasts long after the rash and blisters of shingles disappear. Shingles actually causes injury to the nerves. Though you had the Shingles rash in one area your body - it doesn't mean that it didn't effect other nerve fibers where there was no rash.
Avatar f tn It has been a long time since you wrote to me, meantime, we searched for many solutions and couldn't get any. My mother still suffers from neuralgia after zona. I want to advise capsaicin cream to my mother, but I wonder if you have any idea about someone who used this medicine and get healed. thank you for your help.
Avatar n tn Can genital or simplex herpes cause Postherpetic Neuralgia? I had a severe herpes outbreak (8 blisters everywhere) beginning April 24 when my eye doctor took me off of Acyclovir after nine years. The Acyclovir was used to prevent further flares in my left eye from Herpes Iritis. Now I am suffering from pain in the muscle and tingling in my right arm. There was a blister in that area which has now healed.
Avatar f tn Your post caught my eye, but I am on Gabapentin and not on Lyrica. I have just noticed that I appear to have lost hair recently and have developed a bit of a receding hair line. I just thought this was probably my age (47) but am now wondering if there is any link to medication. Will have to ask neuro at next visit.
Avatar n tn Up to 70% of genital HSV infections are clinically unrecognized. The majority of patients with genital herpes have symptoms and signs unrecognized either by themselves or their clinicians. A recent retrospective study on clinical presentation of the disease reported 51% of cases to be atypical (11) http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11385226. Currently, many doctors rely on the typical clinical presentation of the disease.
Avatar f tn The reason I asked was because I figured it was some kind of nerve pain and I found Postherpetic neuralgia on the internet so I wasnt sure if this pain would be a symptom of HSV2 or not, or if it just pertained to shingles? I had read that pain like that with HSV2 was usually localized and this was all over my body, legs, arms, fingers, feet, even face.
Avatar n tn There are two anti-convulsants that are frequently used for nerve pain and they are Neurontin (Gabapentin) and Lyrica (Pregablin). I myself take Gabapentin for nerve pain. You are first person that I have come across that takes a different anti-convulsant from Neurontin or Lyrica for nerve pain. Both neurontin and lyrica have side effects but they may be more tolerable than the side effects from Tegretol. If you go to http://www.drugs.
Avatar n tn I have saver headaches, jaw pain , and TMJ. I take Lyrica and it helps most times. I find that I need to increase the Lyrica medication very often. I take a large amount of Magnisium because my left part of my face is tight and hard to open. MY question is, I do not understand my pain, Do my pain originate in my jaw or my head? In the past I had symptoms of Try mingle Neuralgia. Could that contribute to my facial pain? Why does the Lyrica wont work all the time?
Avatar f tn I took Lyrica for about a month for atypical neuralgia and when I went off of it, I did have withdrawals. I guess it depends on what you're using it for and how long.
Avatar m tn Hi, post herpetic neuralgia is often treated with lidocaine patches, drugs like amitryptiline, gabapentin, steroids etc but in some of the cases pain last for quite a long time. "A randomized controlled trial found that amitryptyline 25 mg per night for 90 days starting with two days of onset of rash can reduce the inicidence of postherpetic neuralgia from 35% to 16%". Taken from website http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar n tn Gabapentin is used to help control certain types of seizures in people who have epilepsy; relieve the pain of postherpetic neuralgia that is caused through having shingles; and also to treat restless legs syndrome. One of the serious side effects is rashes. And with this the advice is that your should contact your doctor immediately. If you still have the leaflet that came with the prescription, all the information will be on that.
Avatar m tn It is also seen in neuropathies (autoimmune or secondary to diabetes or hypothyroidism), in patients suffering from postherpetic neuralgia or complex regional pain syndrome. Allodynia can also be a symptom of anxiety and stress. Please consult your doctor regarding this. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar f tn There is evidence that treating shingles with antiviral agents can reduce the duration and occurrence of postherpetic neuralgia. Steroids and antiviral drugs can help prevent long-term pain after shingles(post herpetic neuralgia) if they are started within the first two days of the appearance of the rash. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn I'm coming to my wits end on this. I am still experiencing problems. Thinking a fungal infection may be causing the irritation and redness around the anus, the doctor prescribed two doses of diflucan, proctofoam, and hydrocortisone suppositories. This was a week and a half ago and symptoms have not disappeared, only gotten a little better. He asked if I ever had a herpes outbreak, which I haven't.
Avatar n tn These would be called prodrome symptoms but would not last longer than a couple of weeks. If you having these constant for the last 15 months then its an other back problem like a pinched never or its the result of herpes called "postherpetic neuralgia.
Avatar f tn You’re out of proportion limb pain could be allodynia or hyperalgesia seen in many painful conditions, such as neuropathies, complex regional pain syndrome, postherpetic neuralgia, fibromyalgia, and migraine.
