Lexapro and social anxiety

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro and social anxiety

lexapro

Avatar f tn i have social anxiety also, i am on lexapro which helps a bit... and no change in weight as of yet anyway..
Avatar m tn It helped me understand what I was feeling and why i was feeling it. I was diagnosed with Social Phobia while in college and 4 different doctors over the last 15 years have prescribed many different drugs and many differeny dosages. Reading this book was far better than all drugs, doctors, and alcohol. http://www.amazon.
Avatar f tn If you find the answer to this question, let me know. Iam the exact same way. People seem to think i am stuck-up, or a b tch. My husband is the only one that gets me. One thing I have learned, when i do talk to people, i try to talk enough to bring up my shyness and it seems after that they know im not stuck-up and they reach out more. I dont take it anymore but when i was on lexapro, i was more confident with who i was and was able to talk more to people.
Avatar n tn I also have been dealing with anxiety really bad. I've had it for over 19 years and have tried everything. My greatest fight with it is being in the company of people and them seeing the anxiety on my face. I didn't realize that my eyes were dilating until reading this article in here about dilated eyes. The problem is that when I get this look on my face (anxiety). It's makes me feel so bad and I want to withdraw from people. I've currently on lexapro and I exercise.
Avatar m tn Also, at a recent work christmas party where I am normally so inhibited - consequently depressed - out of fear and anxiety, I was quite the opposite, having no anxiety and actually feeling quite connected with others. However, I tend to spend an inordinate amount of time these days still on my own, perhaps at least partly as I still have no confidence of my ability to handle myself without anxiety around others, or partly due to my solitude now being a well established habit. All the best.
Avatar f tn So I have palpitations pvcs and fast heartbeat but eliminating caffeine and starting Metroprolol has helped a lot. But I also have pretty severe social avoidance and anxiety especially in unknown situations and people. I've been unemployed for some time because I'm so anxious about starting a job. I've been taking Xanax as needed for awhile which helps the anxiety and also just recently stopped Propranolol and started Metroprolol.
Avatar m tn Then I got married to a very social and outgoing man who LOVES to be the life of the party and I wanted to make him happy by going out all the time, but it didn't work out so well and began my Lexapro treatment. He learned a lot about me and what gives me anxiety attacks. I'm 36 now and off of the Lexapro, I have 1 or 2 friends (that I don't see very often and that's ok), 5 children, and a wonderful, supportive husband.
Avatar m tn just want to know if anyone has any input on it, if used ofcourse...i suffer from uncontrolled blushing and sweating...my social phobia is horrible, please help!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar n tn As far as the medicine for helping with depression and anxiety, I have yet to have it help. First was Lexapro 20mg for about a month and a half. I had no changes still sad and socially nervous. Then the doctor switched me to Zoloft slowly adding the dose to 200mg for about two months. This did not help either. I thought for sure Zoloft would be the one that would really help me so I am starting to feel like these medicines are not working for me.
681888 tn?1272925909 hi my question is i have just started on my new meds and i would like to know if anyone on mh is on lexapro ,..if so can you tell me if they agree with you and if you find them good , and one other thing i would like to know is do they make you sleepy ?
Avatar n tn He then told me that I have panic disorder, general anxiety disorder and social anxiety, he gave me luxtanil to help me sleep and seroxat CR 25 mg (paxil). After reading horror stories of paxil, I decided not to take it so he gave me cipralex (Lexapro) 10 mg and said its safe and helpful and its side effects and withdrawal are much less than paxil. I am still afraid to start the medication to tell you the truth.
Avatar f tn I have already been diagnosed with anxiety and depression and I take Lexapro, Clonopin, and Abilify daily. Still, they have done nothing to quell my anxiety about dating. I have been to two therapists and currently see a psychiatrist. Has anyone had a similar situation? What did you do for help? I try to meet a guy, but whenever things start to get serious, I make an excuse and cancel.
Avatar n tn I finally decided to see a doctor who diagnosed me with anxiety. He put me on Lexapro, and I'm happy to say that it has helped me a great deal. I still get anxious at times, but I'm much better with dealing with it. Getting my hair cut still raises my anxiety levels, I always think what if it happens again. Thank you for sharing your story. It made me feel like I'm not the only one going through this. My advice to you is to see your doctor.
Avatar n tn I am willing to try drugs or anything else but I think anxiety pills are just going to make it worse I tried lexapro(doctor prescribed), a anxiety pill and that made my problems worse. So please has anyone ever heard of something like this, and do you have a ways to make it go away.
Avatar f tn I've been diagnosed - by a psychiatrist - with Social Anxiety Disorder. I've been taking Lexapro for almost 2 months - started on 10 mg and the dosage was up to 20 mg two weeks ago. Also, for the last 3 months I've been speaking every week or two with a licensed professional counselor. My main problem is associating with people that are close to my age range, I'm 26.
Avatar n tn but after he was born i wanted to focus on him and not worry about anxiety attacks. so, i started the lexapro and it really helped. i liked it a lot and the only reason that i wanted to stop taking it was the fact that i gained 30 pounds over the 4 years and weight gain has NEVER been a problem for me before. in fact,, i had a hard time keeping my weight up at times. i tapered off of the lexapro, but still had side effects (dizzy, irritable, nightmares, ect).
Avatar n tn History: I have Social Anxiety and Depression. I took Lexapro 10mg. for about 1 1/2 years, but am now tapering off due to gaining 15-20 lbs. and loss of libido (Lexapro worked wonders for both Anxiety and Depression). I started Wellbutrin XL 150mg. with the Lexapro a few months ago to help counteract these side effects, but didn't have success. Now my Dr. wants me to taper off the Lexapro completely (2 more days of 5mg.) and try keeping the Wellbutrin XL 150 mg.

Avatar n tn I tried Lexapro and had really bad side effects. I did not stay on it very long as the side effects scared the heck out of me. I also took and am taking 1MG Xanax XR per day for anxiety. My goal is to get control of my panic and anxiety so that it does not rule my life. I went to see a counselor and Psychiatrist. My Psychiatrist just kept prescribign medications for anxiety, my counselor actually helped me talk things out and get to some of the issue that may be causing my anxiety.
4810971 tn?1359480360 My mother has depression, OCD, and social anxiety disorder, and lately it is getting worse. I am 15, and I have Bipolar disorder and OCD, so I get depressed a lot, too, but nothing like this. At night, she will sit on the couch with her head in her hands, and will stare at nothing for hours, no matter how much we try and talk to her, and we eventually give up. This happens every night, no matter what.
Avatar m tn I just had an appointment with my therapist this week and she recommended I start out each morning with a walk, and then try pushing myself more and more to stay out of the house. I've found that Xanax really helps for the most difficult days. Also, Lexapro saved my life for several years in terms of anxiety, but recently stopped working for me. Perhaps an SSRI can help you, too? Good luck to you!
Avatar f tn I've been on Lexapro for about 2 1/2 months now. Started out on 10mg and it was upped to 20mg a month ago. I'm feeling a little weird and I'm wondering if it's due to the medication. It's hard to describe but I feel sort of numb emotionally. While I'm not having anywhere near as much anxiety as I had been having, I don't like the way I feel. It's like I can't even cry anymore even when I want to. Don't know if that makes any sense.
Avatar m tn im 18 and have a social anxiety problem and i dont no what to do about it anymore. I tried to go back to school yesterday and had one of the worse experiences with the anxiety of my life. I seriously felt lie i was going to die while sittting in the classroom and had to leave. I`ve never told anyone i had this problem before because im so embarrassed.
Avatar n tn I saw a psychiatrist and he suggested I had a slight social phobia and some generalised anxiety. A small amount of valium worked until lexapro (an antidepressant) kicked in and then i began to feel normal again quickly. If it's acute and you feel not quite right, go to your doctor and ask for some antianxiety meds, a very low dose that you should never use for a month, and never use it if you are drinking alcohol. You may be better to skip the vlium altogether and try an antidepressant...
Avatar n tn I have been on Lexapro for about 8 months for social anxiety, general anxiety, and mild-depression. It has really helped alleviate those symptoms, but I have gained about 30 pounds during that time. I don't have any motivation to exercise, and have a huge appetite. I am not exactly sure if it is the Lexapro alone causing this, but I think it is a big part of it. I am looking for a medication that may help with my symptoms, as well as help me to lose some weight.
Avatar n tn Thanks for the info - Yes - it did include limbs aching, Carpal tunnel which I had under control (not now) and of course the memory loss for the Lexapro. Most people who post think that it is great and I was so hoping that it would be for me - not. I am going to call my psy. tomorrow about the pains and memory loss now that I am on Lamictal - it is helping with the depression.
213972 tn?1206053788 Paxil was awfull for me to get off of, it took me 5 months to wean off of it. And you do not gain weight from Lexapro. My best friends wife is a psycologist, and she told me that lexapro is a "neutral" , while some others do have a weight gain effect. The only thing i can say about people gaining weight is they feel better on the medication (relief of anxiety), therfore they tend to eat more. You just need to watch your eating habits, if you are at all concerned about weight.
Avatar n tn I take Lexapro for a condition called neuro-cardiogenic syncope. Nothing to do with mood, depression, anxiety, etc. I've had terrible memory problems (to the point that I went to get myself a glass of water, poured it then with a tiny distraction walked away and forgot it for 2 hours). My memory is at the point that I feel like I've got early onset alzheimer's (not exadurating). I've wondered if it could be because of the medication and after reading these posts it seems possible.
