Lexapro and increased anxiety

Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro and increased anxiety

lexapro

Avatar n tn Anyways when I started taking the 10 mg I have been experiencing increased anxiety in these past few days .. is that normal ? and if so when do I expect for this increased anxiety to go away ? And did anyone else in here take cipralex for GAD, SAD and PD ? and if so would you be kind enough to tell me if it has helped with these disorders or not ? And when do you start feeling better in general ?
Avatar m tn Nursegirl RULES!! Does lexapro for gad sound right? took the 10 mg for 3 days and each day the anxiety got worse, stopped. Dr. wants me to try xanax alone for anxiety and insomnia, havent slept much in days, xanax .025,which i am afraid to take after a poor experience with Ativan. Nursegirl respect your opinion, dangerous to take xanax even at low dose?
Avatar f tn Thanks again for chatting with me it really helps, so I am making the change from zoloft to lexapro, I talk to the pharmacy and he said go ahead and make the change, so last night I took 5 of lexapro slept great but woke up a little anxious this am, I am guessing it's because of no zoloft but I know I can do this!!
Avatar n tn Perhaps your increased heart rate was due to your anxiety and maybe now that you are on Lexapro, your anxiety has lessened and your heart rate is lower. My resting heart rate ranges between 52 and 58 because I work out 4 times a week. So...a low heart rate can be absolutely normal. Good luck!
Avatar m tn Some antidepressants are better than others at helping with anxiety, and each person is different. I know Zoloft can help with anxiety, but when I took it several years ago, it did nothing for that for me. I currently take Prozac, which isn't typically one of the chosen options for people with anxiety, but it has been working well in this regard.
Avatar f tn ' I am by no means saying that they are not there; When I started taking an SSRI like Lexapro, it actually increased my anxiety for a couple of weeks because I was worried about it and my body had to adjust to it. But if troublesome side effects do continue, it is sometimes a little trial and error to find out which medication is the best for you. Just keep in contact with your prescribing doctor and continue to express your concerns and questions...it is good to be proactive with this.
Avatar m tn 1 pill (10mg) I'm currently on day 4 of taking 5mg and still don't feel a difference. Seems like my anxiety is higher and I've been having more depressive moments. The only side effects i've expericenced have been drowsiness and feeling sleepy. Does anyone know if I should wait longer or stop?
Avatar m tn I have been on lexapro 20 mg for 5 weeks and can't feel much change for anxiety and depression. Do you think I need to add something to this? I have a full feeling in head and would love to get this to subside. What recommendations do you have. I am seeing a psyc. Dr. and therapy. I am a 72, male.
Avatar m tn HI, just was wondering about an increase dosage of Lexapro. I started at 10 mg and my doctor increased it to 20 mg. I've been taking it for 2 1/2 weeks and have noticed an improvement over the 10 mg. I've been having more good days then bad which is great. Will it take 4 to 6 weeks to receive the full benefit from the Lexapro from the increased dosage? Thanks for the help.
Avatar n tn As far as Buspar, someone mentioned that and that stuff makes me dizzy and nauseous. Can't imagine an anti-anxiety med that I don't get along with, but this one gave me a horrible reaction. And I kep trying it for a few weeks. Finally got where I couldn't hold up my head and the spinning was horrible. Just my experience. It's a safe drug even for pregnant women. Just not safe for the Ladybug!
Avatar f tn But I need this terrible anxiety and avoidance to stop. My doc assured me that Lexapro is safe and he said take Melatonin with it if it caused sleep problems. I already take Melatonin. Maybe I could ask for some Remeron/Mirtazipine to take with the Lexapro? I'm just scared to take that first dose.
233622 tn?1279338505 I have learned to work my life around my anxiety and panic problems. My mom has problems with panic and anxiety and so does my 22 year old daughter. Both are already on medications. I am tired of trying to deal with it on my own. It is taking all I have to deal with MS. Thanks!
212161 tn?1537898045 I take Lexapro for anxiety and mild depression. I took 10mg at one point but this was too much for me, went down to 5mg then 2.5mg (at this for 4 months now) and now I feel great. My recommendation for anyone is to start with the smallest dosage and work your way up slowly giving each step a couple weeks. If you feel pretty good than stop at that dose. Jumping in at 10mg gave me worse anxiety, extreme dizziness and more. Same thing with coming off of it.. taper off as slow as possible.
Avatar n tn Let me make a correction... I just looked up Lexapro and it is for generalized anxiety disorder and depression. But I stand my my statement that you go back on it for depression and add something else for anxiety. Sorry for the goof.
Avatar n tn I went to the doctors about 3 months ago complaining of dizziness, disorientation and a feeling like my legs were made of rubber and finding it hard to keep upright. He prescribed me Lexapro and said I was having a panic attack brought on by underlying anxiety. (both of which I never had before) The day after I took the first pill it hit me, I was sitting at my computer playing a game and suddenly I felt like someone knocked me out and I was left punch-drunk.
681888 tn?1272925909 hi my question is i have just started on my new meds and i would like to know if anyone on mh is on lexapro ,..if so can you tell me if they agree with you and if you find them good , and one other thing i would like to know is do they make you sleepy ?
Avatar n tn He then told me that I have panic disorder, general anxiety disorder and social anxiety, he gave me luxtanil to help me sleep and seroxat CR 25 mg (paxil). After reading horror stories of paxil, I decided not to take it so he gave me cipralex (Lexapro) 10 mg and said its safe and helpful and its side effects and withdrawal are much less than paxil. I am still afraid to start the medication to tell you the truth.
Avatar f tn I started at 25mg and I am currently at 100 mg. I have been on the 100mg a day dose for 5 days and my anxiety has increased significantly and I am having trouble sleeping. The Zoloft has always made me feel wired, but this dosage has really increased my anxiety levels. Will this anxiety increase go away after a few weeks? I also take 300mg of Wellbutrin each day and have for 2 years. Do you think I should lower my Wellbutrin dose or my Zoloft dose or both?
Avatar f tn As for me, the side effect you're describing happened to me with both Lexapro and Celexa, and though it's episodic it has never gone away completely.
535882 tn?1396580285 the positive effects are not thought to be from the serotonin itself, but from brain changes that occur as a result of the increased serotonin. The increased serotonin leads to increased 'plasticity', the term for new growth and connections between neurons. It is the new connections, and sprouting of new dendrites particularly in the hippocampus, that are thought to be largely behind the changes in mood and anxiety. I go into a bit more detail in the blog.
Avatar n tn t know if this will help anyone but maybe it will. I was put on lexapro after surgery when I developed panic anxiety attacks and depression from the anesthesia. I was on 1 mg Xanax a day and 19 mgs lex a day for about 9 years. Everything seemed to be going okay. Did gain weight and had to be out on blood pressure med at about 8 years in. Then had a major emotional crisis at 9 yrs which resulted in depression worsening. My doc upped the dose to 1-1.5 mgs Xanax and 20 mgs of lex.
Avatar f tn I was going to say the same exact thing as Tayvey I personally don't take lexapro...but you can ask your doctor for some anti-anxiety medication and he/she should prescribe you some for your trip. Best of luck to you! I am going to be flying as well on the 14th, and then again on the 23rd and then again on June 1st!! Wow...so I know how you are feeling.
328799 tn?1276569332 Therapy is the most important step you can take in dealing with this. Anxiety is scary and confusing and that cycle of worrying and panic can take its toll on us both mentally and physically. However, there is so much help out there that can make this task of confronting it and dealing with it much easier. I know it is extremely difficult right now; I have been right where you are right now. For me, talking it over with a therapist did wonders to help me get through this...
Avatar n tn Feel like **** after day one. Does anyone have any experience with Lexapro and PVCs and do they cause a worsening of the arrythmia?
Avatar f tn People taking SSRIs like Lexapro can complain about weight gain; and there are many that complain about weight loss. Remember, that anxiety can often lead to depression which in itself can cause weight gain for a viarity of reasons. I actually lost weight while taking an SSRI, but I think it had to do a lot more with a normal exercise routine and watching what I ate.
Avatar n tn I was recently given Lexapro to try for a bout of depression (stress and anxiety); however, when I checked the Lexapro site, it stated there is a "potentially life-threatening" drug interaction with aspirin. While I would hope the doctor who gave me the Lexapro would know that, she said none of my current meds (once-a-day aspirin included, which replaced warfarin a couple months ago) would interact with it.
620048 tn?1358021835 I have been on lexapro for almost 3 weeks for my anxiety and it has been working great until a few days ago, and I started feeling the anxiety again including shortness of breath. I have been taking 10 mg of lexapro, can that dosage be increased? I have emailed my Dr also.
Avatar m tn Here's one of your last threads that would be relevant for you: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Anxiety/lexapro-increased-my-anxiety/show/2093970#post_9931328 The most common "start up" side effects are a "jittery"/"keyed up" feeling, an increase in anxiety, GI disturbances (nausea, sometimes vomiting, diarrhea, lack of appetite), sleep disturbances, headaches. The side effects usually start to improve after a week or two, then completely resolve shortly thereafter.
