Common Questions and Answers about Jaw pain after oral surgery

jaw-pain

Avatar f tn Partial jaw disection and reconstrution with fibula free...things have only gotten worse for me...short version; I continue to have major swelling and pain on an hourly basis. And because my fibula is too thin, I live with possible fracturing. No infection at or around wounded area; however, in January, I had a low grade fever which let to a massive sore throat, dry heves....went to er, was told I had allergies, went to a dentist was told I had an abcess and cavities...
Avatar n tn I also have felt a little tingle in my face in that area when I open wide and hear a small click in my jaw. Does this sound like TMJ and could it be related to the surgery? Should I contact my oral surgeon or a dentist that specializes in this? I hope this pain is temporary because it is really annoying. I also had a dry socket/slow heal on that side, but it feels fine now. This seemed to come out of the blue! Anyone experience this? Thanks in advance!!

Avatar f tn my surgeon said that the pain was only supposed to last a week at most, and that after two weeks the cyst removal area should be completely healed.
Avatar m tn A week has gone by from all four impacted wisdom teeth were surgically removed. My jaw on the right side feels like it is locked. I can only open my jaw 1 inch. When I try to open it farther I get excruciating pain and it won't open. Left side is fine. I was very swollen the first three days after surgery. What should I do?
Avatar n tn I also have alot of pain and tightness in the jaws in the mornings and it takes a while for me to be able to fully open my mouth. There is pain with chewing, yawning, talking and side movements of my jaw. I have also been getting alot of pretty bad headaches, I wake up in the middle of the night at times due to headaches and usually always have one when I awaken in the mornings.
Avatar f tn i have severe jaw pain. was diagnosed with TMJ a few months back but i think i have had it for awhile longer. i grind my teeth severely at night. my pain is getting worse. what type of doc do i see for this?
Avatar m tn I had the two lowers removed (both impacted) and felt that the majority of the site was fully healed 2 weeks after surgery. \However, on Friday night (about 3.5 weeks after surgery) I heard a weird crick/pop in my jaw when going to eat a piece of bread that felt somewhat painful but didn't think anything of it. The next morning I woke up with extreme swelling on my left jaw (kind of how day 2 looked), felt a golf ball size lump on my cheek and can't open my jaw that much.
Avatar f tn For several years, I have experienced severe jaw nerve pain. The pain is located very deep in the jaw behind my teeth, almost in my neck. I have been to several dentists, had xrays and exams and they cannot find a problem. I liken the pain to eating a lemon....that piercing feeling you get in the jaw ...only multiplied about 50 times. This is very painful and aspirin, muscle relaxers, pain medication etc does not relieve it at all.
Avatar n tn and that it should not be causing me pain. Long story kind of short visit after visit after root canal after surgically removal of "stubby tooth" after wisdom teeth removal I am STILL having pain. The area under my jaw bone where the tooth used to be feels swollen and throbs pretty constantly unless I take ibuprofen. Also when I "probe" the area with my tongue I feel something hard(i'm assuming the cementoma)and experience "EXTREME" pain.
Avatar n tn Hi, I recently had my wisdom teeth out (all 4 at once). While it seemed as though the surgery went well, I discovered i had a chipped tooth that I am positive was chipped during the surgery. I could tell that the oral surgeon wasn't too thrilled that I was claiming that he chipped my tooth, but the chip was in the front of my mouth and besides being physically noticable, I could feel it on my toungue immediately.
Avatar m tn Thank Your for your input. I don't know where to begin. You say you had pain in your mouth prior to the surgery and worst after surgery, right? Well, I am not having any pain in my jaw, gum or wisdom tooth right now. It's too bad you are having too much pain and taking painkillers and antibiotics for it. When I open my jaw wide I hear little bone noises from my jaw.
Avatar n tn 1. Is it normal for the bone to be exposed after the surgery? 2. Why am I feeling pain when I drink? and 3. Should I see someone about the tooth being exposed still?
Avatar n tn I have had pain in the left joint of my jaw for years now. As far as I can remember I have not been knocked in that area. The area of pain can stretch from the lower jaw area right up to my ear and can even give me neck pain. It causes pain when I open my mouth wide and always feels like the bones are 'clicking' and 'clunking' out of place. I have had phisio on the joint but that is only a stretch of the muscle and the pan is always present.
Avatar n tn It's been 4 weeks and I am still in excruciating pain from having 2 impacted wisdom teeth extracted. It's the right side of my mouth not healing properly. I went back to the surgeon 5 days ago and he says that the wound had not closed nor is it clotted. He says my says my jaw bone and nerves are still exposed to the air or anything that goes in my mouth and that is what is causing the pain.
Avatar n tn t stop for about 12 hours after the procedure, and after two days I had severe pain and my jaw next to the extracted tooth got so stiff and my mouth would't open easily. I took ibuprofen for the pain and it worked(400mg for 3times aday), but my jaw is still locked and I can hardly open it to eat. my doctor says that I had "dry socket" it will go away in 2 weeks or so. is it common to have locked jaw as a symptom of dry socket? should I be worried?
1166456 tn?1417305537 One thing that would likely help is some physiotherapy (sometimes called physical therapy). While you are at the oral surgeons ask them who they use post surgery (only go to a specialized therapist not just anyone out of the phone book). They can help loosen the joints by teaching you exercises and using things like ultrasound.I would also inquire about a night guard for the teeth grinding.
Avatar n tn I am 15 years old, and I have severe TMJ. I've had it for about 3 years now, only it's at it's worst now. I have headaches everyday, earaches, jaw pain, popping when I open&close my mouth, etc. Everyday is a struggle. I have trouble chewing, and my jaw gets tired after chewing on say, a piece of steak (i know i should be avoiding that). It's honestly really bad. I had a bi-lateral MRI of my jaw, and this revealed significant damage to my joints.
Avatar f tn In June, I had the bone graft procedure and immediately started having problems. The day after the surgery, I had blood pouring out of my left nostril and developed and very nasty sinus infection. Antibiotics cleared up the infection but I continued to have pain and swelling.
Avatar f tn I had a Le Forte upper jaw surgery several years ago and am now having the plates and screws removed as a last resort to see if the screws are causing my severe and frequent sinus infections. I am wondering just how bad the recovery from this is, specifically how much pain, facial swelling, and facial numbness to expect.
Avatar n tn When the mouth is shut it does not close properly meaning the muscles cannot relax causing much pain. My daughter went through surgery to correct hers and wore braces also. A good oral surgeon should be able to help you.
Avatar n tn I did'nt have maxillofacial surgery training. Sorry, I can't advise on your concern. Consultation with maxillofacial surgeon or plastic surgeon is advised.
