Jaw pain after gum surgery

Common Questions and Answers about Jaw pain after gum surgery

jaw-pain

Avatar n tn I went back to work recently and have to talk a lot (customer service), and I wondered if that has made the gum and jaw swollen. My bite feels a bit off on that side and the teeth ache if I apply pressure, though were not damaged as far as I can tell. I've been trying salt water rinses and a topical anesthetic for canker sores, and taking ibuprofen for the pain. Should I be concerned about the jaw ache? Is it likely to be local inflammation from the cut healing?
Avatar m tn Thank Your for your input. I don't know where to begin. You say you had pain in your mouth prior to the surgery and worst after surgery, right? Well, I am not having any pain in my jaw, gum or wisdom tooth right now. It's too bad you are having too much pain and taking painkillers and antibiotics for it. When I open my jaw wide I hear little bone noises from my jaw.
Avatar m tn A week has gone by from all four impacted wisdom teeth were surgically removed. My jaw on the right side feels like it is locked. I can only open my jaw 1 inch. When I try to open it farther I get excruciating pain and it won't open. Left side is fine. I was very swollen the first three days after surgery. What should I do?
Avatar n tn Sometimes after getting a shot in the area near the tooth, there will be pain for a couple of days after. My gum swelled and was sore for atleast 4 days after my fillings were done. It does go away.
Avatar n tn I also have alot of pain and tightness in the jaws in the mornings and it takes a while for me to be able to fully open my mouth. There is pain with chewing, yawning, talking and side movements of my jaw. I have also been getting alot of pretty bad headaches, I wake up in the middle of the night at times due to headaches and usually always have one when I awaken in the mornings.
Avatar m tn I also had fillings on the same jaw soon after as well. The gum pain worsened after 3 weeks from the initial deep cleaning and is now also in the jaw. However, initially after the deep cleaning the pain was reduced for a couple of days. The dentist believes this is cause by night teeth grinding, but don't think so. The pain starts at night while I am still awake and becomes worse when I lay down.
Avatar m tn Although my gums are sore the terrible pain is from my left jaw. Also I have noticed that my lower left side of my jaw on my face feels puffy.
Avatar f tn I have never had such pain before after a tooth extraction. Why are my gum lines feeling sore. It is no where near the tooth extraction?
Avatar f tn Daily I have teeth sifting, gum swelling, jaw swelling, incesion swelling, ear pain...which eventually leads to neck pain, shoulder pain...when I get a low grade fever and sore throat I emediately go to er (who tell me, oh you only have allergies) dentist (who says, this is puzzling, no infections...or you have abcesses) I get them fixed only to be back in the same boat a few months later....
Avatar f tn But I probably only had pain twice whenh they were coming through, then after that I had no pain at all again. Since getting them out I feel my face suck in when I swallow or eat, I keep biting (& cutting) the inside of my cheeks & Iam feeling numbness on one side of my face.
Avatar m tn IF not, jaw pain can be signs of other issues, especially after having chewed lots of gum. You could have something known as TMJ and that causes jaw pain. TemperoMandibularJoint disease can be brought on by repetitive movement of the lower jaw, which can cause lots of pain. You could also have a blocked salivary gland known as siladentits, which causes jaw pain. I would recommend seeing an MD if you have not done so already. Both of the issues I mentioned can be treated with medicine.
Avatar m tn I had four cavities filled two weeks ago two molars on top and two molars on the bottom. Two days after they were filled I had several pain in my right jaw and gum. I went back and had the bite fixed. But by the weekend, I was in pain again. The dentist called in Tylenol with Codine. By Tuesday I went back to the dentist and they took an xray. They claimed my teeth look fine but since I was in pain in the one back molar they removed that filling and redrilled and filled it.
Avatar m tn I have suffered from TMJ for many years... No gum chewing, stay away from very chewy things... gummy bears, jelly beans and anything like that. I have to wear a mouth guard to relieve the pressure on my jaw, you can go to the drug store and they sell ones that you can put in boiling water and form to your jaw. Stress will intensify TMJ pain and "popping". If you are having pain Motrin will help if you are unable to take it.
Avatar n tn The dentist again took xrays and said that he could not find the area causing the problem and would need to do exploratory surgery. I had this surgery two days ago. It was very painful and took two hours. I had to have 2 addtional novacaine shots during the procedure. The dentist said he found that on one root of the tooth, it was thin and the filler material from the root canal was touching my gum through this roo because the tooth root was so thin is was actually broken through.
1809287 tn?1316744936 afterwards, i felt somewhat okay, but about two to three days after i started to feel this uncomfortable pain in my lower jaw bone. the pain is felt in my jaw, my throat, my temple, my neck and my ear. i am having constant headaches. the painkillers do help to ease the pain and discomfort throughout the day, but at night it becomes intolerable and extremely uncomfortable, making sleeping quite the chore. i have been in pain for a few days now, and am worried as to what it may be.
Avatar n tn idun really have a sore throat but some jaw pain. N i keep having ulcers n red spots on theedge of my tongue. I went to doc n they say no lymph nodes.
Avatar n tn THERE WAS SOME INFECTION, SO I WAS GIVEN AN ANTIBIOTIC, AND WAS PAIN FREE FOR ABOUT A WEEK - WITH THE HELP OF A MILDER PAIN MEDICATION. I WENT BACK AFTER 2 WEEKS FOR A FOLLOW-UP AND THE RESULTS FROM THE BIOPSY OF THAT AREA. IT REVEALED I HAD A BONE INFECTION IN MY JAW BONE. I WAS SENT TO AN INFECTIOUS DISEASE DOCTOR WHO PRESCRIBED IV THERAPY (AT HOME) FOR 6 WEEKS. I DID THIS EXACTLY AS I WAS TOLD. I WAS JUST ABOUT PAIN FREE FOR ABOUT 1 1/2 MONTHS. AT THE END OF APRIL, THE PAIN RETURNED.
Avatar n tn i have had severe jaw /ear/gland pain, its hurts my throat to talk for long periods of time .i also feel as if my bite is off. last week i had gone to the neurologist where they diagnosed me w/ t.m.j.,and gave me a rx to have my facial bones x-rayed.they said the dentist did a "number" on the soft tissue in my jaw... i also went to the e. n. t.,to find out whats going on w/ my ear/throat pain.
Avatar m tn personally i think my doctor messed up or pulled too much when he took mine out and i have gum, bone, or jaw bone poping out the side of my gum that hurts when its touched sometimes might be the same for you?
Avatar f tn Your condition is not uncommon following jaw surgery. You should have returned to Oral Surgeon who performed the first surgery. Treatment is generally simple and involves smoothing the sharp edges under local anesthesia. It is also possible that your symptoms are signs of a more serious condition such as late post-operative infection or osteomyelitis. In any case, you should return to the surgeon as soon as possible.
Avatar n tn I have posted previously about pain over my front teeth after after having a porcelain crown over the second to the rear back tooth. I have recently examined my mouth and gum areas and am fairly certain that my right front tooth is now sticking up and has shifted slightly. They are tight together and when I tilt my head up I can see easily where they are no longer aligned. I clearly remember my teeth being straight before. Is this at all possible?
Avatar n tn Perhaps your dentist meant bonding on another tooth. It may be related to the pain/pressure but I would imagine its more due to the crown being a little too high/big for your bite and it may be disturbing your natural bite. I would guess that an adjustment on the bite would be the first step to see how things go.
Avatar f tn My symptoms began about 2 years ago with back to back sinus infections. I consulted an ENT who spent less than 20 minutes w/ me & suggested a CT scan which showed minimal mucus lining in my maxillary sinus cavities. At that time I couldn't be assured it would help & ultimately decided not to go through with the procedure. A month or so later I had severe pain in my left cheek/jaw & then my gum began to swell substantially.
Avatar n tn I went back to my Periodentist (Surgeon) he did 4th surgery on my jaw, sanding off a little access bone, add some powder bone and graft up, but there is not enought gum tissue to cover all. The ridge is now shorten than before sugery, it shorts than both side. I keep ask him to make the dridge (jaw) higher (longer) to have a smile curve, but I don't think it going to happen. My Doc. will submit the buttons with temp. crowns next 2 months.
Avatar m tn At the end of December I had exploratory surgery done. I had pain in my mouth for over a year. Xrays never showed anything, it didn't hurt when I chewed at all. Just throbbing pain at different times. A CT Scan show a hole up by my jaw bone. When the did the surgery they found an abscess (cavity). I had them pull the molar, and they cleaned out the abscess. It is now March and my gum is still sore. Is this normal? I did have quite a few stitches in my mouth.
1969304 tn?1325893751 One of our kitties has about half her lower jaw bone that has died. Our vet gave us a CD copy of her film (not sure if x-rays or another type of scan) and part of the lower jaw bone is just 'gone' and one largish piece has broken away and moved towards the middle of her mouth.
Avatar m tn Over the next four months (December 07 - March 08) she was in severe pain. The surgery performed on her jaw would not heal. She had to visit the dentist three or four times a week. He had to frequently clean the area and apply Corsodol (oral antiseptic strips). Throughout this period she still had bits of bone protruding from her gum. Due to the amount pain she was suffering, the dentist referred her to an oral surgeon.
