Common Questions and Answers about Jaw pain after neck surgery

jaw-pain

Avatar f tn I think I have TMJ, although no dentist has agreed with me, but my jaw clicks and I can see it shift when I open my mouth. So now I have this jaw pain that almost seems connected somehow to my neck -- just not sure if it's a possibility?? And how can I relieve it??!!?? Any input is appreciated!
1098999 tn?1276787267 granted i'm not even a week out of surgery but still.did anyone have issues with swallowing and opening their mouth after surgery? I'm having that issue now and it's like I can't open it too far to put food in my mouth and then it hurts to swallow anything...and i never had any pain in my throat after surgery from the tube being down. it's almost as if it's muscular but not muscular. i don't know how else to describe it.
Avatar f tn Have been doing very well since surgery. Started having strange headaches last year in left temple and jaw area. Went to e/r and after cat scan was told it was most likely TMJ. I have been wearing bite guard for last year and it got better but started hurting again this week really bad and having spasms in jaw and now my neck is killing me on the left side. Pain is going up the left side of neck and down left shoulder into arm.
Avatar n tn The area of pain can stretch from the lower jaw area right up to my ear and can even give me neck pain. It causes pain when I open my mouth wide and always feels like the bones are 'clicking' and 'clunking' out of place. I have had phisio on the joint but that is only a stretch of the muscle and the pan is always present. None of the doctors I have seen can give me a strtaight answer.
1755089 tn?1376053555 I will also add, I have not had that type of pain since surgery...I may have occasional facial pain that feels more like a sinus issue...but nothing like the other pain I used to get.
1947337 tn?1331423890 If it is a bad tooth im really scared to go to dentist because I had to have 2 jaw teeth pulled about 6 months ago because they were so bad granted, I have never had bad teeth before, anyway, getting those pulled were excrutiating and I was in pain for 3 months in my neck and jaw. I did not know at the time that I had chiari or I might have not had them pulled. I was only diagnosed about a month ago with a 20mm extension. Fixing to start PT and on pain meds, valium, and steroids.
Avatar f tn For several years, I have experienced severe jaw nerve pain. The pain is located very deep in the jaw behind my teeth, almost in my neck. I have been to several dentists, had xrays and exams and they cannot find a problem. I liken the pain to eating a lemon....that piercing feeling you get in the jaw ...only multiplied about 50 times. This is very painful and aspirin, muscle relaxers, pain medication etc does not relieve it at all.
Avatar f tn is this all related to the surgery? I need neck relief badly. I get shots of pain and stiffens up. This is miserable. I was feeling ok (not 100%) a few months after surgery but it seems some of the symptoms along with a few new ones have come up. I have been on just about every med there is since this journey began. Nothing really seems to help all the way. Feeling helpless and miserable.
Avatar n tn i had carpal tunnel surgery 4 mos ago the scar is so painful it has now caused TMJ pain and i have to wear a $400 mouth guard at night, I cannot sleep my hand trobs with every heart beat, i went to another doctor he said it is incision neuroma, help.
Avatar n tn About 3 or 4 days ago I started getting pain starting on both sides of my neck, starting at my jaw line. It radiates down and into my shoulders. It's a kind of burning pain. Don't take any medications. When it happens it lasts a few minutes then stops but usually starts again right away, then stops totally.
Avatar n tn m wondering if anyone else here has experienced terrible pain not only in the jaw area, but terrible nagging pain in the back of the neck? It also refers down into my shoulder blade and lower back, but the neck pain is really awful. Also, it is made much worse every time I'm sitting down. Even when I'm in front of the computer for short periods of time, like only 10 minutes. Is there anyone who has this also? This is really affecting my daily quality of life.
Avatar n tn Then all my pain went away and i slowy used my jaw more, and started doing my regular day to day activities. Then suddenly about 4 weeks after the surgery i have had extreme pain on my lower right side of my jaw. It just started back up, out of no where. I didnt hit it, or accidentaly chew something hard. Also when i was recovering after the surgery my lower right side took the longest to recover. I have heard about a condition called TMJ.
Avatar f tn Hi All Had a car accident a few months ago, and will be having c4-c7 fusion with plate and grafts in about 10 days (because of anterolisthesis (vertebrae separation and spinal chord impingement). My jaw was also dislocated and have been on liquids and blended foods since. Can't chew or open my mouth more than 1/2 inch at most. Jaw MD won't do surgery till at least 6 months after neck surgery.
Avatar m tn and jaw clicking (w/o pain), the neck pain and the fact that moving my neck increases my ear ringing, was associated to the ear issues. I went to a TMJ specialist who is a Maxillofacial Surgeon. He is putting me on Occlusal Splints starting Friday after taking several impressions. My question is: Has anyone with tinnitus due to TMJ actually improved after TMJ treatment?
Avatar n tn Almost every time I yawn I fell something like a muscle or bone poking on my neck just below my jaw. It pokes and then i have to manually push it back until i yawn again.
Avatar f tn I get jaw pain but have not had surgery. To me it's very clearly from my neck since it radiates from my neck and into my arm and face (and jaw). Yours may be different, but your NS should be investigating possible nerve problems if he hasn't already. Is your NS a chiari specialist?
Avatar m tn What I have is actually in the neck and jaw. the left side of my neck hurts toward the side (main muscle/tendon going down from the jaw to the shoulder, and under my jaw, from what I can tell is inside my jaw. there are ridges on my jaw towards my chin that hurt, and also the space in between my jaw hurts. Don't know if it is glandular or tmj related. odd stuff. Cannot see my doc until next Thursday. anything that I can do?
Avatar f tn Daily I have teeth sifting, gum swelling, jaw swelling, incesion swelling, ear pain...which eventually leads to neck pain, shoulder pain...when I get a low grade fever and sore throat I emediately go to er (who tell me, oh you only have allergies) dentist (who says, this is puzzling, no infections...or you have abcesses) I get them fixed only to be back in the same boat a few months later....
Avatar m tn Just want to understand what I would expect should I need to go through anything. I've been having lots of jaw and neck issues, which I think could potentially use some form of surgery. I've been avoiding it by doing some therapy at home but it only works to an extent. My concern is the anesthesia and also any medications I need to take for pain after the surgeries, if I choose to do this, would have on the liver. Wonder what experiences everyone has had with this.
Avatar n tn the whole right side of my neck is in pain and this morning i had pain shooting down the left side of my back and the center of my neck and upper spine is sore now as well as i have bitten the inside of my lip. I can faintly inhale and close my throat off when i'm awake and I went to another ENT and got a second oppinion. He put the scope up my nose and I started breathing in and he said my tongue base was collapsing.
Avatar n tn My 25 year old daughter had surgery for a lump in her neck. It was 5cm and found to be ancient schwannomas. The day after surgery the doctor said now she suffers from Horner's Syndrome and she is also experiencing sharp pain in her jaw. Won't refer for second opinion says just wait a year and see what happens. Shouldn't we get a second opinion from someone?
1809287 tn?1316744936 afterwards, i felt somewhat okay, but about two to three days after i started to feel this uncomfortable pain in my lower jaw bone. the pain is felt in my jaw, my throat, my temple, my neck and my ear. i am having constant headaches. the painkillers do help to ease the pain and discomfort throughout the day, but at night it becomes intolerable and extremely uncomfortable, making sleeping quite the chore. i have been in pain for a few days now, and am worried as to what it may be.
Avatar f tn I had a infected dental implant removed from my bottom teeth over two weeks ago immediately following the pain in my neck and ear began with swallowing problems. I'm on pain medication that bad. Went to an my ENT who put a tube down my nose and said she saw nothing. but I'm not getting any better. wants me to call every week to see if I get worse. Says I will improve .I find that strange to say if you haven't determined what the problem is.
Avatar n tn A lot of cutting was done on my face and neck. Now at the age of 50 I am experiencing severe jaw pain in that jaw, neck pain on that same side, tongue cramping and severe tongue pain. I cannot turn my head to the left and the pain is excruciating. I know I have a lot of nerve damage on that left side where the ijury occured. But everyone I have seen, from oral surgoens to dentists to doctors' are stumped at what is causing this and no one will treat me.
621386 tn?1221532483 Not to mention, that she suffered for years with head pain, jaw pain ( excrutiating) sinus troubles, severe neck pain, and mostly ear aches. They told her it was "sensative ears", and they told her it was Vertigo. This went on for many years, they gave her pain meds that only harbored the troubles. Now, I am very mad that her doctor(s) could not have found out about the cancer until the lesion showed up.
1157887 tn?1266817680 m not sure about the overbite problems but I definitely had problems with my jaw muscles after surgery. I had a really hard time chewing and my kids found it quite funny that it took me several attempts to keep a bite of food in my mouth because I couldn't seem to close my lips around it and it kept falling out!! Swallowing was also extremely difficult too.
Avatar f tn 2 weeks ago, My surgeon recommended continue physio but today it caused so much pain that my GP said to stop physio until after surgery. Should I stop for a while?
