Avatar n tn I just put my 9 year old on lexapro. Are their any side affects I should watch for. Is it true he has to stay on for a year?
535882 tn?1396580285 Hi, Lexapro will help with these symptoms if they are due to acute anxiety as Lexapro is usually prescribed for acute anxiety or depression. http://en.wikipedia.

Avatar m tn You're not on a therapeutic dose yet -- for depression, the recommended dose is 10mg, for anxiety 20mg, so you're just getting started. The doc is going slow to see how you react, which means you have a good doc. The fact you're getting sedation is probably a good sign, the increased anxiety not such a good sign, so it's still a mixed verdict out there. I'd keep trying for now. Good luck.
Avatar n tn Yes, Lexapro is effective for the depression in bipolar and is an anti-anxiety med, too. Don't know of any reason it would help with fibromyalgia. Least side effects? I had some problems with it and had to quit taking it, but right now I can't remember what it was. My drs have always gone back to Celexa for the least amount of side effects. It also contains an anti-anxiety.
681888 tn?1272925909 Lexapro worked well for me after the initial side effects subsided. Of course, I was taking other prescribed antidepressants at the same time. I no longer take it as I don't have insurance. I take the generic predecessor to Lexapro, citalopram, which also seems to be helping me. In my particular case I did not find it made me sleepy, but reactions to psychiatric medications are often very subjective. I recommend you give it at least six weeks to see how it works for you.
Avatar f tn Is this a side effect that will pass or continue......I think this is worse than the anxiety/depression....altho both of those are about 60% better. Will lowering the dose help the side effects?
535882 tn?1396580285 Quite often, it is not uncommon for people suffering from depression and anxiety to lose a lot of weight because of suppressed appetite. Have you been eating regularly? Remember, that medications like Lexapro can take a month or so to 'kick in.' How long have you been dealing with anxiety? Sorry to ask so many questions..just trying to get a better picture. Keep us posted!
Avatar f tn I have a few weird questions, I am on week 3 of Lexapro, anxiety is getting better, but I have not gotten my period yet and my stools are really a light color, is this common?
Avatar f tn Could be side effects. Could be anxiety. Did you have brain fog before this med?
Avatar m tn for about a week now the doctor told me about 1 to 10 days or so. Hopefully this will work because this anexity and depression thing really is taking a tole on me and the people around me.
Avatar f tn My boyfriend was put on Lexapro last year for depression because of family problems. Is Lexapro addictive?
362387 tn?1207277719 I have depression and generalized anxiety disorder. What are thoughts on Lexapro? I've only taken Zoloft and have been on it for 7 years. Recently diagnosised with thyroid problems and Zoloft plays havoc with those levels. So now I need to switch. Just wanted some opinions? Thanks in advance.
709686 tn?1277435759 Tomorrow I will begin taking 10mgs of Lexapro for anxiety/depression. This is my last resort as I have tried everything under the sun to help with my problem. Does anyone have a story they could share about Lexapro? Side effects, good things, bad things or anything in between. I would like some advice before I start this treatment.
Avatar n tn does anyone know how to deal with the insurance company. I take Lexapro for anxiety and Celexa is for depression. Im sleepy all day and want to cry all day, im irratable.
Avatar f tn Thank you for the advice. I suffer from mild depression. My main symptom is anxiety. I am not the type to lie in bed every chance I get. I like to get up early. I never take naps. I feel lethargic since starting this medicine. I think it's a side effect. I guess it's better than severe anxiety, but wish I had a little more energy. If anyone wants to read previous post they can click on my username. but It's all irrelevant to my current post.
212161 tn?1537898045 I take Lexapro for anxiety and mild depression. I took 10mg at one point but this was too much for me, went down to 5mg then 2.5mg (at this for 4 months now) and now I feel great. My recommendation for anyone is to start with the smallest dosage and work your way up slowly giving each step a couple weeks. If you feel pretty good than stop at that dose. Jumping in at 10mg gave me worse anxiety, extreme dizziness and more. Same thing with coming off of it.. taper off as slow as possible.
Avatar f tn I've been on 10 mg. of Lexapro for a little over a year now, and I think it has helped me with my depression and OCD. Of course, everyone is different, so your results may vary. I've never had a weight problem, so that was not an issue for me. Also, I've been on other AD's such as Paxil, Zoloft, and Effexor, but the Lexapro seems to have fewer side effects. The only side effect that seems to slow me down is the fatigue, but I had this with the other AD's as well.
Avatar n tn My primary started me out on Celex 20mg for depression and anxiety. It worked a little with the depression, but didn't do much for the axiety and I was still tired throughout the day. He then added Wellburtrin to the mix and that didn't do anything. He then switched me to Lexapro 20MG about a month ago. This worked great... the only thing was it made me very lazy and tired.
Avatar n tn Lexapro affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause depression or anxiety. Lexapro is used to treat anxiety and major depressive disorders. The best advice is to taper off slowly instead of going “cold turkey.” It is important to develop a specific tapering schedule with your health care provider to minimize Lexapro withdrawl symptoms. Anyone discontinuing Lexapro runs the risk of suffering from withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar m tn I took nothing else with Lexapro. At first Lexapro can make your anxiety and depression worse. Thats what it did for me. But after a week or 2 the side effects should lessen. Good luck with Lexapro! I hope it works out for you.
Avatar m tn Hello All, I've been having major anxiety for sometime which has turned out into depression. Due to my sensitivity to meds, my doc has prescribed for me to take Lexapro the following way. Week 1: 1/4 of a pill (2.5mg) Week 2: 1/2 of a pill (5mg) Week 3: 3/4 of a pill (7.5mg) Week 4: 1 pill (10mg) I'm currently on day 4 of taking 5mg and still don't feel a difference. Seems like my anxiety is higher and I've been having more depressive moments.
Avatar f tn light is hurting my eyes and feeling dizzy,, but since i suffer from anoxiety and depression i must say lexapro is working...slowly but i am going back to my self...i could not even drive before witout getting numb feeling when i was stucked in traffick and i was feeling like i was goin to pass out..i was affright to go 4 walk cos i was feeling like i was passin out..
Avatar m tn I have been on lexapro 20 mg for 5 weeks and can't feel much change for anxiety and depression. Do you think I need to add something to this? I have a full feeling in head and would love to get this to subside. What recommendations do you have. I am seeing a psyc. Dr. and therapy. I am a 72, male.
Avatar n tn slc7925 10/17/07 My husband has been taking lexapro for about four months and has not been acting like the man I married. I am very conserned about him. He just out of the blue told me he did not love me anymore, he has had no sexual drive, he had what I would call a physcotic episode just the other day, where he thought everyone was looking at him, he would pass by someone and throw himself up against a wall, then he started crying for no good reason.
