Common Questions and Answers about How many carbs to have in a day

carb

Avatar n tn I eat under 50gr of carbs a day. Reasonable or not depends on who you ask. We do know carbs are what your body turns to Blood Glucose (BG). Dont confuse the carb with the stuff its mixed with, vitamins, minerals. All those are available in other foods without the carbs.
Avatar m tn I just signed up for this program after struggling with WW. How do I determine how many calories a day I should have in order to make this work, I am male, 6'2, 349 and 53 years. I want to loose about 30 lbs. Please assist. thanks.
Avatar n tn Hey there! I don't think you need to limit yourself to a certain amount of carbs per day. I would recommend trying a high protein and high fiber diet. Also try meal planning. Having a plan will ensure that you aren't going overboard on carbs, and knowing how many carbs you'll have for each meal will help you plan your bolus more correctly.
Avatar f tn Trying to figure out How many carbs & sugars should you have? Can someone give me some insight?
Avatar n tn There is NO ideal carb count. Each of us is different. How many carbs you can handle without having your BG go too high (140 in the USA) is different than it is for me (I eat under 50gr a day). Google "eat to your meter" that will tell you haw many carbs YOU can eat.
193609 tn?1292180293 Yeah counting carbs is a hard thing to follow because there are so many items from the food groups you have to stay away from. Honestly the best choice is to watch you fat content and calorie counting. Also just keep an eye on how much sugar and sodium is in the products you consume. Just because it's healthy or low fat doesnt me it should have a ton of sugar or salt in it. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Also the average person only should be having 300 carbs a day. Sugars are a carb so dont add them to the carbs on the label ( i did that for the longest time lol) Its going to be hard the first month but after that it is a piece of cake. good luck and I would like to keep in contact with you if that is ok. I have also put myself back on my diet after having my two kids they have kind of kicked my butt.
Avatar f tn that insulin is taken according to how many carbs are eating and YOUR particular carb to insulin ratio.
Avatar n tn Our doctor gave us no idea on how to accomplish this. I was told by someone else she needs to take in 250 - 300 grams of carbs per day. Is there a list somewhere of foods and there carb value. Also which are good carbs and which are empty carbs? Gaining 1/4 of her body weight seems excessive.
1675455 tn?1328478107 Typical Atkins induction diet limits carbs to 20g per day for the first 2weeks, but if you don't follow that then usually anything under 80g gives good results. It HAS to be from low-GI veg/fruits/nuts/etc though, no processed stuff. And remember to drink enough water, it really is essential!
Avatar f tn When I have a low, I take the necessary steps to bring it up, but it seems that it always goes from low to really high. Even if I have a 55 and have a yogurt with 16 carbs....which should bring my glucose up to about 80 - 90, it will skyrocket to 200+. Is there a way to stop this from happening and just have my low go to a normal range?
7058746 tn?1393435420 That sounds about right but your dietician will go over the exact amount of carbs you can intake with each meal. In my case, I'm required to eat a total of 180 carbs a day/30 carbs each feeding (eat up to 6x a day-breakfast, lunch, dinner with snacks after each). I have to check my sugar before my first meal and then every two hours after breakfast, lunch and dinner. I mainly drink water (all day) and milk (breakfast/lunch only).
1806721 tn?1554333407 t like doing that we do because we have to in order to survive, like going to work every day so we can earn a paycheck. Life is full of this stuff. You can do things you don't want to do if it's the difference between being healthy and being sick. Eating small meals through the day might help. Juicing might help -- if you can't eat, you can drink your food until you work out what's going on, which might take some time.
7712902 tn?1393734882 t know your age but believe it or not, just a couple years can have a tremendous impact and affect on your metabolism. How many carbs are you eating on an average day if you don't mind me asking?
Avatar m tn I have an overgrowth of +4 Klebsiella in my bowels and i cannot find a way to get rid of it! I have been on antibiotics now for 15 days and don't feel any different. I have just been treated for Candida and Blastocystis Hominis which i can happily say i don't have anymore. But i still have symptoms from the Klebsiella, Can someone help?
Avatar n tn If you take 250 mg at each meal that is 750 mg a day, the limit is 2400mg a day so you have room to go up on the Met. It can take 6 to 8 weeks for met to become fully effective.
Avatar m tn Hello and welcome to our community. Unfortunately, you can't really "spot reduce", as it appears you'd like to do. When we lose weight, we lose from the whole body. It's important to note, that losing weight, isn't always just a matter of "calories in/calories out"; however, we do have to make sure we don't take in more calories than we need as they will be stored as fat. What those calories consist of, it equally important.
973741 tn?1342342773 However, people who strictly follow low carb typically limit carbs to 30 g / day or even 20 g /day. This means cutting out grains, starchy vegetables, sweet fruits and sugars. Non-starchy veges, meat, dairy, nuts are all on the menu and can provide a very satisfying way of eating.
Avatar m tn Depriving yourself totally will end up making you attack a bag of cookies. So let yourself have one small thing a day that you want. (Mine is a piece of dark chocolate!) If you keep the portion down, it helps you in the end since you don't feel like you can't eat anything good. Good luck! Hope this helps! Feel free to message with any questions.
Avatar n tn s a relatively low protein diet and contains a fair amount of simple carbs. So how many daily carbs are you allowed? As many as your body seems to find suitable, but the majority of your food consumption for optimum health, at least as far as we know now by studying actual humans, should be carbs by far, with vegetables and fruits being the most important, but also grains, especially whole grains.
Avatar f tn d really like to lose it fast but not working out my body to the extreme. Is it healthy to work out while on my period? How many carbs is good for me while still losing weight? What kind of protein is great for weight loss. Also I heard that I shouldn't have so much fruit, is that true?
Avatar f tn I never really ate THAT many carbs to begin with (grew up with a mother who was a nutritional freak :P) but when I cut about 1/2-3/4% of what I was eating I also experienced some headaches. I don't remember how long it was till I never got them, but I remember only like 2-3 wks and then my body got so used to it that if I ate "more than normal for me" amount of carbs I'd actually get a headach FROM eating them!
