Common Questions and Answers about Hiv testing when

Avatar m tn by taking a anti viral drug when testing for hiv will that change the out come of the test?
Avatar m tn is it true that when some one takes septrine for some time (2 weeks) when he is HIV Possitive and test for HIV again the results come out when he is negative.
Avatar n tn Does it take too long for hiv to resides and detected in the body. From the date of exposure when can the tests be done?
Avatar n tn The modern HIV tests are highly relialbe. It is not possible to have HIV and have both negative HIV RNA testing and negative HIV antibody testing at the times your tests were done. I repeat: not possible. And test results always overrule symptoms and exposure history. The tests prove beyond all doubt that you did not catch HIV. Believe the results. You are home free and do not need any additional testing.
Avatar n tn What's the DUO test? When someone goes for an HIV test is it usually that or ELISA? or is this the same thing?
Avatar f tn If you test negative for hiv should you be tested for aids. Why when your pregnant do they test for both or am I just getting this confused.
Avatar m tn Generally yes, but if you've had no risk then no testing would be required. Either a Rapid HIV POCT test, which is antibody only would be reliable at three months or just have another duo Ag/Ab test.
Avatar n tn My responses will be brief because the virtually identical questions have been asked and responded to many, many times. Search the STD forum threads for "HIV symptoms", "Time to positive HIV test", "ARS symptoms", and "HIV transmission risk". Your risk of getting HIV from the exposure you describe was very low. Your symptoms do not sound like ARS. 1) The test is at least 90% accurate after 5 weeks. 2) No, they don't sound like ARS.
Avatar m tn I do not know whether they are swollen or not. But when I press them then I feel pain. The armpit nodes becomes painful when I am stressed and remains for 4 days. Can I still be positive and not detected by tests? I asked a question before as well to experts. The link to that post is
Avatar n tn We discussed your HIV risks on this forum back in 2008, when I informed you that your exposures were low risk. Probably you misunderstood what your doctor said about p21, and my guess is you had a "duo" test (also called a combo test), which measures both HIV antibody and p24 antigen. Your negative result is 100% reliable. You don't have HIV. It's too bad you waited so long to be tested; you have been through 4+ years of unnecessary anxiety about it.
Avatar m tn I made HIV testing after 46 day and 73 day after possible exposure and all tests r Negative. i need more test??????????????????

Avatar m tn for hiv infection, 6 weeks negative results can give assurance for hiv negative? for a high risky exposures high sgpto like 82 related with early hiv infection?
Avatar m tn My concern is I thought I was done with all the worrying when I got back on the Internet and read all this stuff about people testing positive after the window period when they used a different test assuming blood. Is oraquick really missing that many infections. I see here about 4-5 people a day have the same concern. I just haven't felt right since this sex act. Just wondering if anybody has had much experience with the oral testing method and knowledgeable of its accuracy.
1067212 tn?1353964002 So I was tested around 3 months after exposure and my results came back negative - is this 100 percent or shall I go back and get tested again?
Avatar m tn Four years ago, I kissed a guy's penis with my lips when he had a bit of pre-ejaculate. We didn't have oral sex, and I am not aware that I had any mouth problems or lesions. I am now driving myself crazy, and I am too scary to be tested. Do I need to be?
Avatar f tn Hello, basically, i understand a conclusive result occours at 3 months, but from browsing other sites and even looking at the NHS (National Health Service UK) website i found this info: "Anti-HIV testing (window period of 15 days, test sensitivity 99.9%, error frequency of 0.1%), or an HIV combined antigen/antibody testing (window period 11 days, test sensitivity 99.9%, error frequency of 0.1%), or HIV RNA testing (window period 9 days, a combined test sensitivity of 99.
Avatar m tn This subject is discussed here ad nauseum. Anyone is free to decide for themselves when they feel comfortable testing. ON THIS FORUM, we adhere to the official guidelines, the doctors take a more liberal stance. Dr. HHH often posts a few links to posts he's made that explains in detail about testing protocols, and why they give the advice THEY do, and why we give the advice we do. They are a good read.
