neurontin

Avatar m tn For gabapentin, the person who fails to decrease dosage over time risks having seizures - even if they never had them before. The decreasing dosage should be prescribed by your doctor just as he was the one to determine your initial dosing schedule and any increases along the way.

393986 tn?1303825975 Gabapentin is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants. Gabapentin treats seizures by decreasing abnormal excitement in the brain. Gabapentin relieves the pain of PHN by changing the way the body senses pain.
Avatar n tn Due to brain damage from surgery I have temporal lob seizures I was put on gabapentin and depression occurred. I am looking for something that would control the seizures without depression. Help with any idea! Thanks Would Dilatin help with this type of seizure?
615048 tn?1226186203 Don't know about withdrawls with that but i took the gabapentin for like a week and it made me a crazy hostile paranoid person. That drug is strange and i think you should pay close attention to your symptoms when quitting. btw- my doctor had perscribed it thinking that it may help with my pain. hah-not quite.
Avatar f tn I have tried multiple meds such as antidepressants and Gabapentin... always have had multiple side effects. Things like heart palpitation's, anziety and vision troubles. I can take xanax and Soma with no problems. My question is "could it be the Armour Thyroid that I take that causes the trouble?" I also have a movement disorder labeled as tremors/non-epileptic seizures which also gets worse with antidepressants.
Avatar n tn I am a 50 yr old male. I was prescribed Gabapentin for neurological pain management by the VAMC in Tampa, Florida. According to some post I've read, Gabapentin is a med that one must be weened off of. I've been taking Gabapentin off and on to help with pain so I can sleep. I don't take it all the time because of the side effects. Sometimes, but not all the time, I feel like I'm having a bad hangover after the medication wears off.
Avatar n tn Gabapentin is used to help control certain types of seizures in people who have epilepsy; relieve the pain of postherpetic neuralgia that is caused through having shingles; and also to treat restless legs syndrome. One of the serious side effects is rashes. And with this the advice is that your should contact your doctor immediately. If you still have the leaflet that came with the prescription, all the information will be on that.
Avatar m tn My little girl Abbie, 13 yr old mini-schnauzer has been having seizures, unbeknownst to us except for one, for several months. 2 weeks ago she just fell on her side and laid there for about 1 minute. This happened again every day and on the 3rd day we took her to our vet. They did xrays and found no heart or lung problems but said she might have a stomach tumor (note, she has had a fatty tumor on her side for many years which is now the size of a small orange).
Avatar m tn Most of the individuals described in these reports had a history of poly-substance abuse or used Gabapentin to relieve symptoms of withdrawal from other substances. When prescribing Gabapentin carefully evaluate patients for a history of drug abuse and observe them for signs and symptoms of Gabapentin misuse or abuse (e.g. development of tolerance, self-dose escalation, and drug-seeking behavior).
6937315 tn?1386287618 Has anyone ever been put on gabapentin for severe anxiety/panic disorder? My doctor just prescribed it for me to help ween me off xanax that I've been on for 7 years. Was wondering if this has ever helped anyone?
Avatar f tn My rescue terrier of 9 years of age is totally deaf. He also suffers with seizures. Initially, the vet provided zonisamide 50 mg. He was a severely abused little fella and trusted no one and was always on the offensive. Although the medication caused the seizures to stop he became more aggressive and paranoid. He is currently taking 150 mg x2 daily of gabapentin. Aggression has completely ceased. Time has been on our side and he has become a very loving demonstrative guy.
Avatar f tn Hi All!! I have heard that gabapentin/neurontin is helpful with withdrawls from vicoden...I was wondering if anyone has used this while in withdrawl and if it did indeed help make withdrawls a little easier? Thank you for your help..I am currently trying to taper off vicoden..
Avatar n tn Well I do have the Hylands Restful Legs, and also Gabapentin. Just wondering will it actually help my leggs, and should I fear of this becoming addictive as well? At this point, Im 9/10 days clean, so sorta afraid to even take it. Or should I just try to ride the RLS out? Im seriously trying to get through this, can anyone tell me approx. how long their RLS lasted? And your opinion on starting the Gabapentin at the stage Im at?
Avatar f tn Gabapentin, otherwise known as Neurontin is actually a drug used to treat seizures, and somewhere along the way was discovered to be effective in relieving nerve pain assiciated with multiple sclerosis. I find it also helps me with the muscle spasms and "charlies" that I get in my legs. I hope this helps. Beth.
Avatar f tn If anything he became much worse having cluster seizures 5 or 6 every 8 days. We recently changed vets and Sulli was put onto Phenobarbatil 5 days ago. Hes uncoordinated, his sight seems affected , restless, pacing, urinating +++. Can anyone give me any suggestions as to when these side effects may diminish.
1475202 tn?1536270977 I also posted this in the neurology group and haven't heard any replies so maybe it fits here as well. Peripheral neuropathy has been my diagnosis since October 2010. My brain has tiny seizures one after another 24/7. They are so small I don't feel them. This was due to alcoholism and a diagnosis of end stage cirrhosis 03-23-10. Due to the condition of my liver I need to be very cautious with the medication I take.
5565709 tn?1370001025 The seizures may occur at any time during the sleep cycle but the most frequent times occur within the first or second hour after going off to sleep (early nocturnal seizures), one to two hours before the usual time of wakening (early morning seizures), or within the first hour or so after awakening (early morning seizures).
Avatar f tn My doctor says for me just to stop the gabapentin and take the gabapentin every other day until i am out.last year he told me a different way to stopp taking the cymbalta if i decided to quit.He said i should take one every other day for aweek, then one every two days for a week, until i get to one every seven days.which way would you suggest and why would he tell me two different things.I have heard alot of bad things about withdrawels from this on the internet.what can i expect.
Avatar f tn My dog 13yo Boxer began experiencing cluster seizures. Initially given phenobarbital. Major bad reaction & seizures stopped. They came back about month later. First given Gabapentin. Seizures increased. Now he's on levetiracetam & seizures has subsided. Side effect has been increased sedation and loss of appetite. I need to given his next set of meds but concerned to give him another 750mg on an empty stomach. He barely ate for his 2nd round od meds this afternoon. Need Help!
Avatar n tn I had a 48-hour EEG a couple of weeks after quitting the gabapentin and there were no spikes--a few slow waves, but I have had no partial seizures, no neurological events at all in the intervening four years--the epilepsy has gone. I suspect the epilepsy was the result of an undiagnosed wheat allergy. There's something called gluten ataxia, in which lesions in the brain cause physical jerkiness, and there were those white spots on my brain MRIs . . .
Avatar f tn Isn't Gabapentin potentially dangerous to come off? My girlfriend had a hernia surgery gone terribly wrong and they put her on Gabapentin but stressed very seriously that she take it as advised and for no more than 2 weeks because of risk of seizures. I just wanted to throw that out there so that maybe you research before trying it. I am no professional by any means but I just wanted to look out for you.
