Avatar m tn This is a question for your local pharmacist. As far as I know it doesn't but I'm no pharmacist either.
Avatar m tn I take 1800mg of Gabapentin for a pain in my big toe throughout the day. Still getting pain at 3AM in the night. I started taking 300mg of R-Alpha Lipoic Acid 3 hrs before bedtime and 600mg of Gabapentin 3 hrs later at bedtime. I can sleep all night now.Is taking the R-Alpha and Gabapentin both dangerous. I can get no response from my Neurologist..
Avatar f tn Keeping your numbers in the target range is important for controlling diabetic neuropathy. Gabapentin is a choice and there are others. Anti seizure drugs have been show to be effective such as Lyrica. But also, antidepressants have worked for some. Tricyclic antidepressants which are an older class have been used and work well but do have a fair number of side effects.
Avatar f tn Recently my condition has become worse affecting my arms and the pain is severe. I am also a diabetic and suffer with neuropathy. I see a pain management doctor and have spinal injections every 12 weeks. I was prescribed Vicoden 10/325 for pain as well as flexeril and gabapentin. Neither the flexeril or the gabapentin seem to help with muscle tightness, spasms, or nerve pain. I am seeing my doctor again in two days and I wondered if any one could tell me of medications that have worked for you.
Avatar n tn What is the cause of your neuropathy? Duloxetine is also a good suggestion for Diabetic neuropathy.
Avatar f tn The only possible scenario that I can think of to use gabapentin for balance is that it is given for neuropathy (nerve pain ) and the doc thinks perhaps the nerve pain will go away and you will have increased proprioception (the sense that tells us where are body parts, i.e. arms and legs, feet, etc. in relation to the ground and other body parts). Still I think that's a HUGE stretch, even off-label.
280418 tn?1306325910 Should I go to Johns Hopkins and get a skin biopsy to check for small fiber neuropathy? Mine is idiopathic -not diabetic, not toxicity from vitamins or other toxins. Every test has come up normal - MRIs, Lumbar punctures, bloodwork etc.
Avatar f tn i am taking ganapentin for diabetic neuropathy and i am wondering if i can take my valacyclovir with it does it have any problems if i take it together??
Avatar f tn While Gabapentin is used as anticonvulsant, it is also indicated for shingles or postherpetic neuralgiaand also for hyperhidrosis, headaches, diabetic neuropathy, hot flashes, and fibromyalgia. Common side effects of gabapentin include dizziness, somnolence, fatigue, fluid retention, nausea and vomiting. Take as prescribed and check with your doctor if you have any side effects. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn One of the main ones is Duloxetine, which is a generic for Cymbalta. I take that for my neuropathy… It helps considerably, but doesn’t eliminate the pain. If you look it up, Cymbalta (Duloxetine) is listed as an anti-depressant, but it’s used “off label” quite often for pain. Check with your doctor and see if that might be possibility for you.
Avatar m tn I have diabetic neuropath. I have taken Lyrica for the nerve pain, and for me it was miraculous. I could walk again, swimm, didn't hurt. II have had to quit taking it because of the cost, but neurontin is going to be my next try. There are several meds out there.
Avatar f tn Has anyone tried laser treatment for non diabetic neuropathy, some Chiropractors in Phoenix claim they can cure it.
Avatar f tn About 3 months ago I was diagnosed with peripheral nueropathy to both feet. I am not diabetic. I was prescribed gabapentin, total of 700 mg a day. Gabapentin worked for a month or 2. Recently I have had a 5 day "flare up" in which the pins and needles and burning sensation seems to be traveling to boys of my knees. After the couple days of burning pain, heaviness and pins and needles I now have stiffness and pain in both knees and ankles/ feet and widespread muscle pain, and fatigue.
Avatar m tn Neuropathy is nerve damage and from what I was told, no, it will not go away. I currently take an extremely high dose of Gabapentin, which helps for the most part. For me, I have it worse in my legs and even more so in my feet. At night, especially while in bed my feet hurt so badly, which is weird bc I also have the pins and needles. I would contact your Dr to see what they suggest. You may be able to prevent the neuropathy from getting worse by keeping your sugars under control.
Avatar f tn I have neuropathy of my feet all the way up to my knees and now in my hands and in one spot on my face, i was an undiagnosed diabetic for YEARS!!!! I know that pain all to well. I suffered years w/o any meds ( started when i was 21 and I am 47 now) I started on Tramadol and codeine together 5 yrs ago and 4 days ago Topamax was added.
Avatar n tn Is this for neuropathy??Just curious I was taking neurontin for a while and it worked really well.(till I found out I was alergic.) My grandmother who also had extremely painful neuropathy also took neurontin and had great success. Just a thought I don't know much about what your problem with the feet is. Ours was due to diabetes. Hers was type II, mine is type I.
Avatar n tn I have been seeing a neurologist who thinks it may be Diabetic Neuropathy, since I had Gestational diabetes and family hx. I took the 3 hour glucose test and my 3rd hour came back low. I have had 3 cardiac ablations in the past year for SVT. I am on Toprol , Cardizem, Lexapro and Gabapentin. I had an EMG on my Left leg and that was also normal. Testing for Lupus, Mitochonrial, and Sjrogrens were all normal.
Avatar n tn Currently, the 2 most effective medications for peripheral neuropathy that we have available are gabapentin (Neurontin) and pregabalin (Lyrica). The latter is a newer drug and is more expensive than the first. I generally tend to start with gabapentin and will switch to pregabalin if the gabapentin isn't doing the trick. The mediactions may not take away all of your symptoms, although ideally, they will dampen them considerably.
Avatar n tn well I lived now I stoped drinking but have serious side effects weakness in legs arms and the dreaded neuropathy in my feet! which leaves me in constant pain and I am not diabetic. Right now my stomack is swelling back up I do not know why . hopefully it is nothing all this because of drinking!! My question is is there any other medicine I can take besides gabapentin 600mg 4xa day?I hope I do not need a liver transplant .
Avatar m tn This is ONLY in my left calf and foot, the right side seems perfectly fine I have to add that I am type 1 diabetic and have been so for more than forty years and although I do have diabetic neuropathy in my hands the numbness I now feel is much worse than before.
Avatar f tn muscle relaxers, gabapentin, cymbalta, vicodin, NSAIDS, yet none of them have touched the pain. The most effective medication so far has been the muscle relaxer. My GP stopped the NSAIDS in fear that it may damage my kidneys. My hx is mild DM currently under excellent control. My exercise has been limited for the past year due to amount of pain and my "unsteadiness" due to the pain and muscle weakening.
572651 tn?1530999357 I saw a podiatrist yesterday for pain/numbness/on and off discomfort in my great toe, which mainly happens when I am sleeping. I am not diabetic, but I do have peripheral neuropathy in that leg. He did a few exam moves on my foot and thinks that my nerves are misfiring in that foot and causing the problem. He prescribed a compounded cream for me to use to see if it helps with the toe and gives it a chance to heal on its own.
