Gabapentin sciatica

Common Questions and Answers about Gabapentin sciatica

neurontin

1943408 tn?1325582497 I am on the Fentanyl patch and I STILL deal with a lot of sciatica. I also take Gabapentin (brand name is Neurontin) and it does help with the sciatica a lot more than the Fentanyl. Gabapentin is an anti-convulsant prescribed off label. I also take Fentanyl for extreme low back pain and myofascial pain syndrome. I am NOT recommending Fentanyl for you as it would be way too strong. I would try Gabapentin or Lyrica first to see if it helps.
Avatar n tn s how your Doctor wants to treat it. Sciatica can last for hours or days, it all depends on the severity of it. Sciatica can either land one in bed or just be a painful bother. Sorry that I cannot give you further information. Your question is a broad one. Please take care.
1083064 tn?1261491951 I have been diagnosed with sciatica (L4) since the 21st july and I was in complete agony with it, requiring a sick note from work for me to rest. 14 weeks on I am still off of work. I have a constant pain normally in my right leg. it burns / radiates / cramps / aches down to my ankle. My right buttock hurts constantly. I have shooting pains and cramp in my right hip. When my leg gives me a bit of peace I have back ache, to the right of lumbar area and spine. my spine pops and clicks.
Avatar f tn This along with the Gabapentin and Oxycodone and Fentanyl gets rid of the sciatica completely until later in the day it returns, which means more medicine. But I would at least try OTC Aleve. I also take one Aleve in the afternoon if I need it and also 1 at night to prevent sciatica in my sleep. I do also get epidural steroid injections about once every 3 months and I will take a four day burst pack of prednisone (an oral steroid) if I get into a flare inbetween injections.
1415174 tn?1453243103 Sciatica typically subsides given a few weeks to a few moths- assuming you haven’t done anything serious. Sciatica is an inflammation of the sciatic nerve, and given some time, typically resolves on its own, or with physical therapy. Physical therapy can help relax and strengthen the muscles surrounding the irritated nerve and continuing the stretches and excercises given to you after the PT is complete can prevent reoccurrence.
Avatar f tn I have tried Gabapentin, and I am currently taking Lyrica, which is a relative of Gabapentin. It does help a little, but not enough to enable me to sit down longer.
Avatar m tn Check with a neurologist after eliminating simple causes like tight shoes. Treatment would be according to the cause. Drugs like amitryptiline, gabapentin, gabapentin etc may be required. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn I am thinking that too... I was recently diagnosed with Sciatica, but that usually is only in my hip and buttocks area. But maybe it is that ...
Avatar f tn Gabapentin for sciatica im on 2 x 50mg of tramadol 3 times a day so 300mg total and two x 300mg three times a day 900mg total of Gabapentin. Ive lost a lot of weight which has pretty much cleared up the sciatica. Thing is these last few days I've felt really depressed and low, this is what started me to think and look at this stuff almost pulling me to take more and i really dont want to, i want to come off them.
Avatar f tn Hi All!! I have heard that gabapentin/neurontin is helpful with withdrawls from vicoden...I was wondering if anyone has used this while in withdrawl and if it did indeed help make withdrawls a little easier? Thank you for your help..I am currently trying to taper off vicoden..
Avatar f tn I have recently been prescribed to Robaxin, Vicodin and Gabapentin for back pain/sciatica. Anyone have experience with these meds?
2207073 tn?1338931916 Asking your doctor for an increase in Gabapentin would be a good step to take if you are still experiencing severe sciatica. Doses of Gabapentin go up to 3600 mg per day so you are on the very low end of dosing. You are maxed out on the cyclobenzoprine. An increase in the meloxicam would be the other recommendation if your stomach can tolerate the higher dosage. The epidural steroid injections take 1-2 weeks to become effective and before this takes effect, increased pain is normal.
Avatar f tn m sorry to heat about your sciatica. I too suffer with sciatica. Do you know the source of the pain for as you know sciatica is a symptom and not a condition. Treating sciatica often means treating the cause of it. If it is a chronic condition that does not have a treatment plan than obvious you must treat the symptom. As Sandee said there are medications that treat nerve pain such as gabapentin and lyrica. If you are not on one of those I would consider discussing that with your PCP.
Avatar f tn My husband has been diagnosed by his GP with sciatica, with pain running down lower back thru buttock to foot on the left side. He is in alot of pain and has been given steriods w/o much success. I thought he should get an mri to help diagnose the cause but the GP says, based on his range of motion exam, its not a degenerative disc problem and mri not necessary. He has been prescribed physical therapy, but I'm concerned this may just be dealing with sypmtoms not cause. Help!
Avatar f tn hi Punkie..........thats a good question and I have the same pain from the buttocks to the hip and radiating to the thigh and down my legs..worse on left side........I have 2 problems and this pain could be caused by either one doctor says one thing the other says different so gets very confusing. 1. it very well could be caused by the bursitis in our hips, although from what I understand that pain should only radiate as far as the thighs and not necessarily down the whole leg. 2.
Avatar f tn That numbness sounds like sciatica. Which I've had! My doctor told me about stretches I needed to do which eventually released the involved nerve. Here's a link to some stretches to try. https://www.healthline.com/health/back-pain/sciatic-stretches I agree that pain management seems premature here.
19965699 tn?1487511518 I am currently taking 400 mg of gabapentin 3x a day along with, Metformin 500 mg 1 a day, Tripilix 135 mg 1 time daily, Tizanidine 4 mg 3 times daily, Diclofnac 50 mg 3 times daily, Nexium 40 mg 1 time daily, trazadone 25 mg 1 time at bed (for sleep), and escitalopram 10 mg 1 at bed, ibuprofin 600 mg as needed, and sumatriptan 25 mg as needed ft or migraines, I have looked up every drug interaction with gabapentin and found all safe to take except for my anitdepressent escitalopram 20 mg once
1307298 tn?1305946851 -) It may not be exactly sciatica, as that involves a specific nerve (the sciatic). I had drop to my knees leg weakness caused by lumbar spinal stenosis. Any disk impingement on and nerve can cause the kind of pain you're referring to.
1340994 tn?1374193977 With kidney problems, fatty liver, diabetes, and bipolar disease, what can my brother-in-law take for severe nerve pain in his legs? His PCP believes it's sciatica from his spine problems, although I'm sure the diabetes is also a likely culprit. Is there any medication he can take for the severe pain he's in?
Avatar n tn This is affecting both legs and is all night long. I take 1200 mg of gabapentin at bed time, one benadryl and two leg leg cramp with quinine and it is still unbareable any suggestions?

I find gabapentin great for nerve pain. -BUT u need to find a cause 1st. Go back to your Dr -even do a pain diary so its in black and white... best wishes T.
Avatar n tn the leg/hip sciatica/pain has been an issue for at least 7 yrs (loose count aftr awhile) for this sciatica I have been on a drug called gabapentin for at least 5 yrs and it gives tremendous relief or at least it did...now they've had to increase the dosage. I've had 3 injections of cortisone into my hip this year...didn't work or at least not for more than a few weeks.
