664365 tn?1225157789 ve seen since have said this appears to be a classic case of nerve damage. I have had one nerve block that gave some relief for a couple of days, and have tried Lyrica (which I couldn't tolerate) and now Cymbalta, which is giving me some side effects at 30 mg a day. I have been taking Meprozine 50/25 mg and Zanaflex 12 mg morning and night just to get through each day. I also use topical Lidocaine ointment on the area around the surgery site.
Avatar f tn I have been prescribed gabapentin this week for nerve damage in that area of my back. I am in first week on it and taking 600mg per day.
Avatar n tn I too am on Gabapentin. I take 600MG 3 times a day and it has helped me with nerve pain. I was only getting the injections until I was rear ended and now my L4 to S1 is now herniated with a tear at S1 with disc protrusion. That is why they put me on Gabapentin. I have been doing the injections for a few years now and with a good doctor the injections will last longer then others. I would not worry yourself about the injections and blocker doing more damage.
Avatar f tn Thank you so very much.....I do have muscle and nerve damage.....I take gab.for my pain,I don't get siezures. I also take baclofen.my legs get stiff when I don't take the gab 3x a day . Alex my medicine cabinet is starting to look like a mini pharmacy. Monday I will call a pain management clinic to hear other options. What do you take the trileptal for?
998260 tn?1277731559 Fyi ~ I also had trauma and nerve damage with lots of post trauma pain. They tried a few different drugs on me with no relief until they put me on Pamelor (Nortriptyline) 25mg I have now been virtually pain free for only 48 hours but its the first time in 2 months I've had 2 days with minimal symptoms. My Neurologist suggested this drug as it is often used on people after severe car crashes/ head trauma. best wishes.
1175180 tn?1263994996 MY HUSBAND HAS SEVERE NERVE DAMAGE TO HIS RADIAL & MEDIAN NERVES IN BOTH ARMS FROM AN INJURY...... THAT HAPPENED A YEAR AND 1/2 AGO......THE DR.'S JUST FOUND OUT THE EXTENT OF THE INJURIES AND SAY THAT BECAUSE OF THE LENGTH OF TIME (OF DAMAGE) HE MAY NOT EVER BE "PAIN FREE". MY QUESTION IS..... What medications (for pain) work the best for such an injury? He is being refered to a tertiry clinic, and has an appointment with an ortho. surgeon on the 22nd.
Avatar m tn Yes, i take gabapentin for nerve pain, it helps me a lot. I have MS so I have a lot of nerve issues. Its not a problem for me, it only helps me. But if you want to get off of it you cannot just jump off, you would need to come off slowly.
Avatar f tn Although many medical conditions can cause burning feet, diabetes is the most common. Most burning feet treatments focus on preventing further nerve damage and reducing pain. This is probably why the doctor prescribed the Gabapentin, I believe it is for relief of pain due to nerve damage. Here is a link that might be of some help: https://www.webmd.com/diabetes/burning-feet-causes-treatments#1 Have you been checked for diabetes?
Avatar n tn The surgery went well but I have questions about nerve damage after surgery. I was told I would have dry eye syndrome and that the taste buds and spit glands on the right side of my mouth would be damaged. These are minor problems I can live with. However, apparently a retractor stretched a nerve in my forehead. I am unable to raise my right eyebrow (which is now about 1/2 inch lower than the left one) and the lid is droopy.
Avatar n tn Much will depend on contributing factors, the location of the nerve damage, the severity of the damage and the cause of the damage. Some treatments available, again based on location and cause are steroid injections, various medications, nerve blocks, a rhizotomy (Radiofrequency ablation) and more. If you can be more specific we may have more suggestions for you. If you are suffering from nerve damage my heart goes out to you.
Avatar n tn for neuro related pain (from nerve damage, shingle, peripheral neuropathy) , sometimes for depression and anxiety and other psych issues. While it is not a narcotic, it needs to be slowly tapered when discontinued.
Avatar f tn hi could someone tell me if nerve pain goes away ?
772218 tn?1249131067 I'm not sure what's causing the pain but I have nerve damage in my legs the doc has me on gabapentin (neurontin) I can't say that it helps a lot but it takes some of the pain away. Maybe you should consult your doc and see if it would help you.
Avatar n tn If your back pain is brought on by nerve damage then you might speak to your doctor about a referal to a nuerologist. Medication such as Gabapentin can be prescribed to relieve the pain. This is a non-habbit forming medication that metabolizes in the kidneys so it won't damage your liver any further. Gabapentin is prescribed for many different purposes so ask your doctor i it could br right for you. Congradulations on your sobriety! Keep going strong.
Avatar f tn After 2 more spinal fusions to correct the problem it was determined that the problems i am having cannot be corrected. I am left with permanent damage and neupathic nerve pain. To add to it my lower back has disc compression issues. I have been getting injections for this when its unbearable, but im apprehensive about surgical treatment. I have been on (6 yrs) Gabapentin, now at 1200mg 4 times a day along with Oxycontin and breakthu oxycodone.
Avatar f tn so i go in the following friday for my check up at the oral surgeons office and i express my concern about my tongue ( i knew it should not still be swollen at that point) and he preceeds to tell me that there has been some serious nerve damage from the surgery, and my tongue actually isnt swollen at all, the damage is just giving it the affect that it is. i also cant feel anything, or taste anything. basically my tongue is dead.
Avatar f tn I had back surgery a year ago and I have been on Gabapentin ever since. I have nerve damage in both feet and right leg due to the disc that was removed. I havent been able to figure out why Ive had diarrhea thats progressively gotten worse and worse until a few days ago. Its the Gabapentin. The one thing I cant live without. Without it, my leg and feet burn and cramp and feel sporadic random stabbing tearing pains.
Avatar f tn I agree with sarah, I was on gabapentin for nerve pain, not for balance but maybe someone else will have some different opinions.
Avatar f tn Apart from the investigations already done, you need to undergo a nerve velocity conduction NCV study for assessment of nerve damage. Meanwhile gabapentin is fine for the neuropathic pain. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar f tn Hello, I'm trying to find out more information from others who are going through ilioinguinal/iliohypogastric nerve damage or neuralgia. I've been suffering from groin pain and numbness of my right leg after an ovarian egg retrieval. This was my third egg retrieval as an egg donor. Somehow during this last retrieval nerves were damaged most likely due to scar tissue being built up or the needle damaging the nerves.
Avatar m tn in other words, it becomes hyper-sensitive. The chronic cough develops as a result of the nerve damage--the nerve damage becomes the reason for more coughing. After 30+ years of developing a chronic cough which would last for about 4-5 months following every upper respiratory infection and being prescribed antibiotics, allergy medication, inhalers, steroids, to no avail, within 3 days of being prescribed GABAPENTIN and TRAMADOL, his cough was immediately arrested.
