For two years I have been experiencing severe pain in my left hip which radiates down the leg to the foot, as well as numbness and tingling in both feet and pain in the toes. The pain is worst when sitting down, lying down or bending over, and as a result i stand most of my waking hours. It is suspected to be sciatica, but I have not been able to obtain a diagnosis, largely because the CT_Scan and MRI of the lower back, which show some minor problems, show no nerve compression.
It is a generic for Neurontin, which is prescribed as an anti-seizure med, but off label is prescribed for nerve pain. It usually takes higher doses for nerve pain. I was taking 900 mg per day, 3 am, 3 noon, and 3 nightly. Now I take 3 at night and 2 during the day. I am on other pain meds to help with the pain from 2-level cervical disc herniation and multi-level DDD and radiculopathy in my arm, hand, back and leg.
So at the end of the day have faith in your own feelings as you know what you are feeling and experiencing and I think you will find that most people find Gabapentin is very helpful for nerve pain and MS symptoms and it is just a matter of finding the dose that gives relief to you personally.
I was taking Gabapentin 300 mg for extreme nerve pain in my foot, it worked like magic for approx. 3 months then stopped being effective. Any Thoughts - Reasons?
There is a drug called Lyrica that is supposed to work better than the Gabapentin. You might give that a try. I have nerve pain as well and the only thing that has helped me are the opiates. Sorry I cannot give you more advise.
Gabapentin works for some people and not for others. Compression of a nerve or nerve root typically isn’t helped that much by medications unless the compression is relieved first. Medications can help ease pain but not numbness once the compression is relieved.
I too am on Gabapentin. I take 600MG 3 times a day and it has helped me with nerve pain. I was only getting the injections until I was rear ended and now my L4 to S1 is now herniated with a tear at S1 with disc protrusion. That is why they put me on Gabapentin.
I have been doing the injections for a few years now and with a good doctor the injections will last longer then others. I would not worry yourself about the injections and blocker doing more damage.
I am currently using 8mg of buprenorphine,1800mg of gabapentin and 150mg of wellbutrin daily as medicine for pain management and nerve pain.Now I'cant obtain gabapentin anymore and would like to transfer to oxycodone 120mg daily as a substitute for buprenorphine and gabapentin.I would like to know is such change possible.
My primary care doctor has treated the nerve pain with cortisone injections but the pain remains and seems to have gotten worse. I am now experiencing pain on the left side as well, but much lower. I really don't know where to go from here. It's to the point where it's affecting my job because I am in constant pain. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so very much.....I do have muscle and nerve damage.....I take gab.for my pain,I don't get siezures. I also take baclofen.my legs get stiff when I don't take the gab 3x a day .

oms-gabapentin 300 mg was prescibed to my mom for nerve pain and its a seizure medication? Any explinations she isnt epaleptic?
Im going to start to slowly reduce the Gabapentin in hope that the itch subsides and hope the neuropathic pain does not return. Just wanted to put this out there in hope that someone can help me.
I was on gabapentin myself for nerve pain. It didn't help my nerve pain at all. It caused me to become very nervous and on edge. I told my neurologist about it and she wanted me to continue taking the med. Well another week goes by and I keep having these freak out episodes. Now I am in severe pain and I am freaking out. Nobody wanted to be around me cause they felt they needed to walk on eggshells. I called the neurologist again. She cut my dose to 100 mg.
I was prescribed Vicoden 10/325 for pain as well as flexeril and gabapentin. Neither the flexeril or the gabapentin seem to help with muscle tightness, spasms, or nerve pain. I am seeing my doctor again in two days and I wondered if any one could tell me of medications that have worked for you. I have a high tollerence to medication, most do not make me sleepy at all. I have tried Tizanadine in the past but for some reason that medication gives me bad headaches.
On December 23, 2015 i was injected into a nerve at the dentist. I felt a horrible shock. I was just diagnosed with superior alveolar neuropathy by a neurologist. Three of my upper top molars on my left side are numb burning and sour taste at gum line along with pressure and pain. I'm really scared that this is never going to go away. It may never work, it is given for nerve ending pain in my case I took it for 12months, also tried pregabaline, to no avail, I only speak personally of the drug, my partner took it for years for perlifiral neauropathy thought to have been brought on by alcohol abuse, he has stopped taking it 6 months ago pain is no better or worse. My pain for Erythromelalgia was not helped. I hope you are more successfull with it. It is usually increased gradually, and stopped gradually. Good luck Anita.
They are both used to treat nerve pain (neuropathic pain), but gabapentin can be useful in treating other pain syndromes, like the pain of peripheral neuropathy, or the pain of fibromyalgia.
The only way to know if this medication will help is to try it, but I repeat, it is not used to substitute for opiate treatment, so you will most likely continue your morphine and oxycodone while trying it.

This happens when my husband is getting ready for work and says goodbye and that wakes me and caused the nerve pain to start. Its usually a horrible aching pain that occurs in right upper chest area/armpit too...my eyes get jumpy and it feels like short circuits going off in my brain.
Just wondering if anyone else has this trouble and if so, how do they deal with it. I have to take the gabapentin and then it makes me loopy. Wondering what other people do with the pain stuff.
