I'm on Gabapentin for nerve pain etc... not heard of balance, but maybe could help?? I know it take awhile to get into your system and you build up the amount...
t know about the itching but I do know about Gabapentin. It made me nutty lol. My dr put me on Gabitril for my nerve pain and it worked wonders with no side effects. I do know you should talk to your dr if you have not already about lowering your dose on your own. Medications like this are sometimes worse to take yourself off of and need to be monitored by a dr.
I was taking Gabapentin 300 mg for extreme nerve pain in my foot, it worked like magic for approx. 3 months then stopped being effective. Any Thoughts - Reasons?
There is a drug called Lyrica that is supposed to work better than the Gabapentin. You might give that a try. I have nerve pain as well and the only thing that has helped me are the opiates. Sorry I cannot give you more advise.
It is a generic for Neurontin, which is prescribed as an anti-seizure med, but off label is prescribed for nerve pain. It usually takes higher doses for nerve pain. I was prescribed gabapentin after surgery, for the nerve pain I was having in my legs. The dosage was gradually increased to 600 mg, three times a day. It really did the trick. I've been on gabapentin for a few years to manage pain from multiple spinal fusions (I've have 5 total fusions and I am totally fused from C2 down to T2), chronic pain & fibromyalgia. It used to help with the pain and excruciating neuropathy from all the damaged nerves but like most meds it lost its effectiveness over time. It kept getting increased and for at least the last 6 months my dosage has been 800mg/3x a day.

For muscle spasms there are muscle relaxers the main ones are Bacolphen, Flexiral, and Zananflex. Many people need a combination. Some drugs work for some people and others for others. I have had gastroparesis symptoms while taking gabapentin at a high dose for my muscular pain cause by gitelman syndrome (a rare kidney disease that causes kypokalemia) although hypokalemia can cause gastroparesis I don’t know if it is the gaba or the low potassium.
