Avatar f tn I also use Yoga and Mindfulness Meditation and Therapeutic Dressage (horse back riding) for pain control. A lot of my pain is made worse by a weak core and stress. I have to keep my core strong, stretch, and use mindfulness to keep the stress down.
1740498 tn?1328962585 I'm going from 600 mg 1x day of gabapentin to 600 mg 3x day. I think that I can't just jump it like that. What has worked for you? My PCP did the increase not my [useless] neuro, and he didn't say I need to increase slowly. I'm just assuming that... since the guy who put me on 600 mg had me start with 300 for a few days then 600.
1983221 tn?1333506185 Gabapentin is a challenge to adapt to, requiring very small and widely spaced dosage increases, but it's worked pretty well for me for a.long time.
Avatar f tn I had an episode of burning on my forhead and cheeks and pins and needle feelings in which I started Gabapentin for. Over a 4 week period I gradually increased the dosage to what I am on now, 300mg three times daily. This seems to help greatly with the nerve pain but I started after 2 weeks to develop a very itchy neck, ear lobe, and face. My face sometimes looked like it was burned. Im just wondering if anyone has had this while taking Gabapentin.
Avatar m tn For gabapentin, the person who fails to decrease dosage over time risks having seizures - even if they never had them before. The decreasing dosage should be prescribed by your doctor just as he was the one to determine your initial dosing schedule and any increases along the way.
Avatar m tn ve been having muscular pain in the shoulder area around the teres major/minor or infraspinitus it feels like somebody is twisting the muscle sending pain shooting down my arm, my doctor has prescribed first co codamol 30-500s then gave me gabapentin then changed the co-codamol to dihydrocodine, the problem i have is that the amount i was prescribed to take is not working , I have increased the dosage of gabapentin (as suggested by doctor) to 900mg and the dihydrocodine (not by doctors advice) t
1168718 tn?1464983535 I'm on a low dosage of Gabapentin and I haven't experience weight gain. My sister and an aunt of mine, was on it, and did. They were at a high dosage right from the start. My aunt had to be taken off the drug because her weight gain was due to swelling she was experiencing from a side effect of taking Gabapentin. My sister had a similar situation. Once my sister was off the drug, the swelling went away.
293157 tn?1285873439 Because I seem to be responding better to this latter drug, I am now slowly weaning off the gabapentin. I guess if the pain increases as I go off the gabapentin, this will tell me it was helping more than I realized. I have no side effects from the gabapentin, even at such a high dose. I do find the 50mg amitriptyline makes me very drowsy, and may need to scale it back to 40mg if this side effect continues.
Avatar f tn I'm on Gabapentin for nerve pain etc... not heard of balance, but maybe could help?? I know it take awhile to get into your system and you build up the amount...
Avatar m tn I was prescribed gabapentin after surgery, for the nerve pain I was having in my legs. The dosage was gradually increased to 600 mg, three times a day. It really did the trick. The doctor told me i would be on the meds for about 6 mos. Over the last 10 days I have been gradually decreasing the dosage and am now on 1 600mg tablet at night. Has anybody had trouble getting to sleep at night and if yes, what did you do?
Avatar n tn I was taking Gabapentin 300 mg for extreme nerve pain in my foot, it worked like magic for approx. 3 months then stopped being effective. Any Thoughts - Reasons?
Avatar f tn t had to take the gabapentin, because the pain was completely gone. However, in the last two days, the pain has come back (albeit not as bad as it was). This morning I started on the gabapentin again, as I never experienced any side effects and figured it would prevent any further pain. I'll be contacting the pain management doctor today, to hopefully figure out the exact dosage of the steroid that I was given/ what steroid it was in particular.
1218873 tn?1300091216 My consultant asked my GP to over see the swap over to Lyrica. So this is the plan. This means to begin with lowering the gabapentin dose by 300mg every 3 days (I'm on 1800mg at the moment) and then when I'm down to 600mg of gabapentin a day I start to add the pregabalin 75mg to begin with then upping it every 3 days till I reach 300mg a day at the same time still reducing the gabapentin to zero. Hope that makes sense.
Avatar n tn I have beeen suffering from foot pain due to nerve damage after receiving Taxol Chemotherapy. I have been prescribed Gabapentin. Looking for information on its effectiveness, side affects.
Avatar m tn Trileptal is a newer drug than Tegretol (carbamazapine) and is supposed to have less side effects than Tegretol. You do have to have blood tests every three months because it can affect the sodium levels in your blood, which could lead to kidney problems. I went through 6 doctors before I found a Facial Pain Specialist at a large teaching hospital that actually helped me.
359574 tn?1328360424 I'm on gabapentin right now for nerve pain. There isn't any real problems to worry about. It does take a little while to kick in, though---I didn't notice results until 2 months on the pills. Also, if your dosage is increased, you might feel a little dizzy the first few days as you adjust. Otherwise, I like the results I've been given.
681148 tn?1437661591 Anyone who has taken Gabapentin (Neurontin) for a couple of months for the nerve pain post Shingles outbreak: What was the dosage you took to deal with the nerve pain and how long did you take it before the nerve pain stopped? I'm not concerned about the safety of the Neurontin at the low dosage I'm taking. I'm actually more concerned about the effectiveness.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Gabapentin for upper abdominal pain that was unexplained by my psychiatrist until my appointment with a GI doctor. It turned out I have a nerve issue in the abdominal wall, and the "fix" is Gabapentin. Aside from having a dizzy feeling for a couple of hours after the first dose (300mg) I have tolerated the drug extremely well. I noticed no other side effects, and was only dizzy for a few hours. I have no idea why it works, but it does.
1831849 tn?1383228392 Dosing on gabapentin is extremely variable according to individual need and response. Dosage can also be dependent on the combo of medication already being taken so it is hard to know what dose might work for you. My pain management doc ordered a weekly increase. That was too fast for me and I decided I could tolerate the partial pain reduction better than the side effects. This is probably a question you need to call the office for.
874521 tn?1424116797 I think my vision changed slightly as the dosage of gabapentin was changed, so I had to update glasses a few times. Catching the vision change thing for me reduced the ongoing feeling of dizziness because it was just the need for different glasses. There's room for it to be a coincidental age thing, but eye exams showed changes matched dosage changes. Noticed certain fluorescent lights take time to adjust to, but can't say if it is connected to gaba.
Avatar f tn I take gabapentin for neuropathic foot pain. I'm with doublevision, as I take 1200 3X/day. The dose does need to be built up relatively slowly. I started at 100mg 3X/day. All by itself the gabapentin did not resolve my foot pain. I have added amitriptilyne (Elavil) 50mg 1X/day. The combination has completely resolved the pain in my feet. I would urge you to find an MS specialist. They are more likely to understand neuropathic pain issues.
