Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin for nerve damage

neurontin

Avatar f tn Neurontin, Lyrica for the nerve pain, and Baclophen or Flexeril for the muscle spasms. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I assume you have not had the surgery so it sounds like nerve damage. You need to talk to to your doctor and tell him your medication is not working and see what options he/she can offer.
Avatar m tn I have a lingual nerve damage for two years, I have no live, I'm seriously consider to put a end to my life, I can not live anymore like this. I have pain and a burning sensation in my tongue for 24 hours a day.
700212 tn?1240760820 My docter just prescribed me neurontin for what they are calling "nerve" pain. Have any of you ever taken it?...is it good or bad?...Ive heard both and Ive been trying to look it up...but I just started treatment also and I already take enough pills...but if its going to help I willtake it...My right leg has alot of nerve damage and deep scar tissue and it bothers me pretty bad...but for some reason they wont prescribe me pain meds that I can just take when Im in pain...
Avatar n tn for neuro related pain (from nerve damage, shingle, peripheral neuropathy) , sometimes for depression and anxiety and other psych issues. While it is not a narcotic, it needs to be slowly tapered when discontinued.
Avatar n tn Thanks so much for answering the questions and the welcome.I'd like to ask if it's alright,I suffer with nerve damage, and this is so totally new to me.But my doctor also mentioned Neurontin to me when we discussed the medications of choice. And I know Lyrica is more the newer medication.Lyrica makes me feel fuzzy in the head, and especially when I have to take pain med's with it.Can you tell me a little more about it? If it's okay?
Avatar m tn After my first surgery I was also told I have occipital neuralgia. I am on neurontin ever since. I also had nerve blocks done for awhile. Just to find out all my pain wasn't all due to the nerve damage but I needed another surgery because my first ns only did bony decompression. It didn't help at all. After my second surgery I am better some...but still get horrible headaches once a week that lasts for days and if I do too much daily headaches. Oh and my scar is extremly tender and sore.
Avatar f tn I was on neurontin for nerve pain following a spinal injury and prior to surgery. It relieved my nerve pain and the side effects lessened after a few days. I didn't take the full dose though, and I stopped taking it after the surgery.
Avatar f tn Specifically the MRI is looking for structural changes within the spine and intervertebral discs including the extent of nerve involvement, The signal produced by the spinal cord and measured by the MRI would still be actively functioning unless severe spinal cord compression is noted. Any success in getting the contrast MRI?
Avatar f tn I was put on it for nueropathic pain up my neck n down my arm. I have severe nerve damage. Cymbalta took all the pain away in my neck n some other nerve pain. I love it. It truely helped me. I also am on neurontin.
Avatar n tn I also have nerve damage and neurontin made me crazy. The doctor prescribed Gabitril and it worked great for me. There is not really anything that can be done for nerve pain. You can block it with pain shots from a pain specialist or take pain pills. Maybe taking a hot shower, muscle rubs, and anti inflammatory like ibuprofen will help for now. Try and get her into a doctor asap and check on the shots or a TENS unit. My tens helps me when my nerves get out of whack. Best of luck to you both.
Avatar n tn Also, you may ask your Doctor about using Lidoderm patches. I use these for back pain and for a rotator cuff tear and it is very effective for me but I am also thin. My nerve damage has not repaired itself and usually it does not. Trying to find the painful nerve source is not easy and is not as straight forward as it would appear.
Avatar m tn ve been a diabetic for almost 10 yrs now and have neuropathy as well as chronic back/ neck pain. I also have some pretty severe nerve damage in my legs from my back injury and had back surgery in 2007. Any way, I take lyrica twice a day 150 mg in am & 150 mg at night, and it has really helped alot with the pain. Im also on norco for my back / neck pain, but the lyrica has been a great help to me. However it is expensive if you don't have insurance.
630344 tn?1280104983 I'm taking the generic form, just recently resumed but have used it in the past. Neurontin is Rx-ed for nerve pain as an "off label" use, that it, treating nerve pain is not the function for which it was designed so it's not listed as a use on the manufacturer's label. It is actually an anti-seizure med, but it was found to also reduce neuropathy in patients. It is my understanding that Lyrica works much in the same way, and is a newer medication by the same company.
1602878 tn?1304336016 I have a tethered cord with many surgeries in the low back which caused a great deal of scar tissue and nerve damage. I also have periverial neuropathy and some small nerve fiber neuropathy. Any ideas how to help calm those nerves asap? I have tried pain meds, muscle relaxers, lidocaine patches, cold packs, heat packs, relaxation, and prayer. A lot of it is sciatica. Then there is the normal pain from the knee replacement.open to ideas.
1983221 tn?1333506185 I also applaud Gabapentin (neurontin) it works well for me also but does take some tapering or getting used to, I should say
Avatar f tn m 22 years old and I also have major back problems with nerve damage and I had major back surgery a year ago.. I was on a Ton of meds for it when I found out I was pregnant. I went to see a physician because the midwife I spoke to was horrible. The first thing she asked was "do u plan on keeping it" she made me petrified. My personal preference of course but i dont believe in abortion. I wanted nothing to do with her..
Avatar f tn I know he has been known to drink too much and I am wondering if Alcoholic Neuropathy could damage the radial nerve to the extent of wrist drop. His hands show some signs of muscle wasting/weakness. He occasionally has some breathing problems after a binge, too. I am his on/off AA sponsor, which is why I ask. Also, Prednisone seems a curious treatment...
1855076 tn?1337115303 Just never really see much about it and heard that it really is great for some people for nerve pain. (I believe it was originally an anti-seizure medication.
1310035 tn?1305621642 Neurontin (brand name for gabapentin) helps with nerve pain. It is very commonly used in MS. Another med for this purpose is Lyrica. If one doesn't work or the side efffects are too much, then the other can be tried, but the two are very similar. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn vitAmin B1,B6,B12,folic acid, and omega 3 fatty acid are helpful for nerve healing. Gabapentin(neurontin)starting at 100mg,T.I.D. And titration every 3days or weekly may speed up nerve healing. Seeing a neurologist who is experienced in managing traumatic Trigeminal neuropathy is advised.
Avatar m tn The treatment is multi-factorial and should begin with neuropathic treatment such as neurontin, lyrica, or elavil. If you do not meet the criteria for diagnosis, you can have allodynia (pain to nonpainful stimuli) as a result from the surgery. The treatment is the same. I would suggest you discuss this with the ENT who performed the surgery. You may need a referral to a pain specialist.
