neurontin

293157 tn?1285873439 Because I seem to be responding better to this latter drug, I am now slowly weaning off the gabapentin. I guess if the pain increases as I go off the gabapentin, this will tell me it was helping more than I realized. I have no side effects from the gabapentin, even at such a high dose. I do find the 50mg amitriptyline makes me very drowsy, and may need to scale it back to 40mg if this side effect continues.
Avatar f tn Well the info I gave u was on Lyrica...I really should give u info on gabapentin....from what others with chiari have noted on this med....it can appear to help in the beginning but the longer u r on it the effectiveness wears off. Here is a link for gabapentin -http://www.google.com/url?url=http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.

681148 tn?1437661591 I was taking the Gabapentin with Soma earlier in the year of 2008 since the gabapentin didn't work I stopped taking it. Thanks for the info though and hopefully you will get some relief with that bit of advice.
Avatar f tn am at present taking 2400 mg per day of gabapentin and find only some relief from pain and other feelings of discomfort. my GP thinks this level of medication is adding to my fatigue and tiredness.I was wondering if anyone knows of alternative drugs that can be used so I can go armed with info when I go to see my consultant....
393986 tn?1303825975 Gabapentin is used to help control certain types of seizures in patients who have epilepsy. Gabapentin is also used to relieve the pain of postherpetic neuralgia (PHN; the burning, stabbing pain or aches that may last for months or years after an attack of shingles). Gabapentin is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants. Gabapentin treats seizures by decreasing abnormal excitement in the brain. Gabapentin relieves the pain of PHN by changing the way the body senses pain.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your info on how Trileptal works for Tregeminal Neuralgia. I would be interested to see how it works with other people as well, in place of Carbamazapine and Gabapentin so I have some ammunition when I see my neurologist. I don't think Gabapentin is doing much if anything for me, I am currently taking 2700 mg per day in addition to Carbamazapine.
1045086 tn?1332126422 "Certain anticonvulsant drugs may be linked to an increased risk of suicidal acts or violent death, according to an analysis of prescriptions and insurance claims data by Boston researchers...." http://www.boston.com/news/health/blog/2010/04/anticonvulsant.html?p1=Well_MostPop_Emailed7 I don't use gabapentin but I know many others here do so I wanted to leave this FYI. I'm NOT suggesting anyone make independent changes with their medications.
Avatar f tn When I try to find info on gababantin I find that it's for the aftermath of shingles. What is the connection to ms and why do ms patients take it?
Avatar f tn Hi All!! I have heard that gabapentin/neurontin is helpful with withdrawls from vicoden...I was wondering if anyone has used this while in withdrawl and if it did indeed help make withdrawls a little easier? Thank you for your help..I am currently trying to taper off vicoden..
Avatar m tn I would try to ask the doctor that gave you the Neurontin (Gabapentin) for more info too. Of course you can still ask questions here if you prefer. I think but am not certain, that some MS patients are not so bad while others get more progessive disease over years. I think there are drugs to help slow it down and also make you feel better. You need more info. I am not an expert in this field. I hope this helps though.
Avatar m tn Talk to your doctor about it, would not want it to cause a bad reaction to another sleep aid. Info on the web about Gabapentin is a bit scary.

Avatar m tn My wife Doreen has been prescribed Gabapentin to control this bile duct pain. After reading the info. leaflet she is hesitant to take these capsules. Can anyone advise. thankyou.
Avatar f tn I recently started having to take gabapentin and it seems to be making me swell really bad! It makes my feet, legs, hands, & face swell up. Is this normal? Also started taking backofen for muscle spasms and every time I take it 20 to 30 mins later I get a pretty bad headache. Is this normal? Thank u for the advise and info in advance! Have a wonderful and blessed day!
1805240 tn?1317228731 If I am calculating your dose correctly you are on 600mgs of a Gabapentin. This is not a high dose and you may want to discuss an increase of the Gabapentin with your physician. There are other similar medications that may be more beneficial too. This is a discussion that needs to be between you and your physician. The journey through Chronic Pain is not easy.... but with a good physician and the right medications it can be easier. I hope you will find a solution to your increasing pain.
1310035 tn?1305621642 Neurontin (brand name for gabapentin) helps with nerve pain. It is very commonly used in MS. Another med for this purpose is Lyrica. If one doesn't work or the side efffects are too much, then the other can be tried, but the two are very similar. Hope this helps.
1218873 tn?1300091216 ) i have been on Gabapentin for the last 3 months with only a little success (the twitches have reduced considerably) but no relief pain. Now the Dr is going to swap me to Pregabalin which has to be done slowly to switch from one to the other, so this will start as soon as I'm home from holiday. I wondered if anyone had done this and what there experience of the drugs are?
Avatar m tn Hello, I am new to this group. I have had more than 85 blood tests since I was diagnosed with Lyme in July of 2014. All have been negative. I have been on may drugs for pain and currently on Gabapentin for vocal cord/coughing issues and leg pain (knee, calf, left side back). I don't think it is helping much. Is anyone else on Gabapentin?
Avatar f tn Has anyone expierence swelling of the face with gabapentin? I know it can be a side effect. My question is; Is this an allergic reaction or is the dosage too much?
