Gabapentin for neck pain

Common Questions and Answers about Gabapentin for neck pain

neurontin

Avatar f tn My 10 year old son was perscribed gabapentin/neurontin (in combination with a few other drugs) for his nerve pain. It definitely helped but the side affects are a huge trade-off. He gained a considerable amount of weight too but I attruibuted that mostly to the fact that all he did was eat, sleep & be foggy - and wasn't able to be his normal active self. He's since been off the meds and the weight has come off too as he's now able to resume most his normal activities.
Avatar f tn Hi could anyone help me please?
Avatar f tn I asked her what I can do for the burning rib pain between now and then - she told me take the gabapentin I had been prescribed or go to the ER. 2 Questions: 1. I'm very reluctant to take meds. and I'm terrified of the "depression, suicidal thoughts" side effects I have read can happen with gabapentin. Honestly- I don't really need a pill right now to make me more down than I already am at this point. Is this a good med.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Vicoden 10/325 for pain as well as flexeril and gabapentin. Neither the flexeril or the gabapentin seem to help with muscle tightness, spasms, or nerve pain. I am seeing my doctor again in two days and I wondered if any one could tell me of medications that have worked for you. I have a high tollerence to medication, most do not make me sleepy at all. I have tried Tizanadine in the past but for some reason that medication gives me bad headaches.
Avatar f tn Gabapentin is a good drug for some things, and not for others. General side affects are things like headaches, stomach pain, dizziness, dry mouth, sleepiness---the normal things that can happen when you go on any drug. Most of the time, gabapentin doesn't have extreme ill affects on anyone unless you skip a dose. I do know of people who say the drug can be addicted in high doses. Considering that you're just starting the medication, I wouldn't guess you'll be on a high dose.
1701959 tn?1488551541 Doc has recommended steroid injections, going to see pain doc in a few days. Steroid pack did NOTHING, Advil is a joke. They said I can try Gabapentin. Has anyone had luck with it? Also how did the steroid injections work? Anyone recover from a neck nerve issue without the need for surgery? Thanks all!
Avatar f tn t know about the itching but I do know about Gabapentin. It made me nutty lol. My dr put me on Gabitril for my nerve pain and it worked wonders with no side effects. I do know you should talk to your dr if you have not already about lowering your dose on your own. Medications like this are sometimes worse to take yourself off of and need to be monitored by a dr.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Gabapentin for nerve pain in my neck and down my shoulder to my arm, I have not been able to supply names of people, movies, places and all sorts of words would not come to mind until I read about the side effects - 48 hours later - all of the information has come pouring back in - hopefully with everyone else it isn't permanent - I was on 1800 mg a day, prescribed by my pain management doctor - I am not taking anymore!
Avatar f tn Just because you have carpal tunnel doesn't mean you don't also have a back problem. I'm not sure I understand how carpal tunnel, which is a wrist problem, would affect all these other areas, but that doesn't mean you don't have it. I'm also not sure I understand the gabapentin, it might help with nerve pain but won't help with numbness. I would think for this stuff you'd want to see an orthopedic surgeon.
Avatar f tn I have neuropathic nerve pain from a botched neck spinal fusion 2013. After 2 more spinal fusions to correct the problem it was determined that the problems i am having cannot be corrected. I am left with permanent damage and neupathic nerve pain. To add to it my lower back has disc compression issues. I have been getting injections for this when its unbearable, but im apprehensive about surgical treatment.
1983221 tn?1333506185 I take both gabapentin and amitriptilyne (Elavil) for my neuropathic foot pain. I started with 300mg gabapentin and worked my way up to 3600mg. I take 1200mg 3X/day. By itself it didn't do that much for my pain. We added 25mg amitriptilyne to the gabapentin and I saw some relief. We upped it to 50mg 1X/day and my pain was gone completely! I guess I'm luck not to have any side effects from either drug.
Avatar m tn When you were put on the gabapentin, that is for nerve PAIN. So, either you were given it because you were in pain at the time and perhaps just don't recall how things were, and thus it returned when you went off the drug. Or could be that disc bulge or other parts of your neck got worse, pain developed that you didn't notice since you were on gabapentin, and so when you went off the drug, you were able to FEEL this change.
8496079 tn?1398412516 Has the drug Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) worked for Fibromyaglia pain within a few days of taking this medication for the horrible pain from the Fibro? I was put on Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) yesterday by my doctor for my Fibromyalgia Condition in addition to the Norco 7.5/325 I can take up to 4 pills day as needed for the massive pain I'm in.
Avatar m tn Hi..I'm complicated!! My neuro recently prescribed Tegretol for me for TN and my pain mgmt doc prescribed Gralize. My pain mgmt doc said to just try the Gralize first because the Tegretol has major side effects. I have since talked to my neuro's nurse who told me to go ahead with the Tegretol. I did, three days ago and I am so drunk I am useless. All I want to do is sleep and lie around. This is NOT anywhere near normal for me.
Avatar f tn Neurontin is an epilepsy drug--it has a number of "off-label" uses and one is chronic pain. The Elavil at nite is for pain management and anxiety. Of the two GABA is the drug with the most serious side effects--like Steven-Johnson syndorme--so you really should educate yourself and learn about the drugs and then find out for yourself if you want to take this medication. Do the benefits outweigh the risks of this medication?
Avatar f tn Hi, is anyone else taking Gabapentin for nerve pain and are experiencing side effects? Since being on it for a week now I’ve noticed pain in my abdomen, neck, maybe even a little in my groin area too. Has anyone else experienced these side effects?
Avatar f tn I just recently started taking gabapentin about a week. And I’ve noticed that the lymph nodes in my neck and groin area have become a little tender since taking. Has anyone else experienced the same side effects while taking gabapentin? Thank...
11079760 tn?1483386130 I have now fully weaned off of Gabapentin. After several months of constant right arm pain - mostly in my deltoid - I now only have intermittent pain episodes. However, my hand and neck sensations of being swollen have returned to about 50% of their worst. My right hand dexterity has definitely declined again :( I also have to note that I've been on vacation from my desk job for a week - so maybe it was all the computer work putting the strain on my arm?
Avatar m tn Also, if anyone has any tips on dealing/treating neck pain from occipital neuralgia, i would appreciate that too!! I am just really hoping for some relief from this headache, more than just a few hours of it feeling "better". thank you so much to anyone who had any input!!
11119474 tn?1428702170 Oh, THANK YOU, Alex. :)Just for the record though... the doctor says this tumor is likely slow growing. My MRI's back in 1997 showed a lesion in the same spot, but they never decided on what it was. :( So, looks like I've likely had it for at least 18 years, which may explain why I've had so much neck pain since then. In 1997 they did the C-3 thru C-7 laminectomy for cervical stenosis and what they considered in injury, which I had in a car accident.

Avatar f tn The only possible scenario that I can think of to use gabapentin for balance is that it is given for neuropathy (nerve pain ) and the doc thinks perhaps the nerve pain will go away and you will have increased proprioception (the sense that tells us where are body parts, i.e. arms and legs, feet, etc. in relation to the ground and other body parts). Still I think that's a HUGE stretch, even off-label.
Avatar m tn I stopped working in March after being a hair stylist for 26 years. I've had problems with ulna nerve neuropathy and radial nerve damage in right arm. I have bone spurs on right shoulder rotater cup and I have 2 bulging disk with some degenerative nerrowing. My neck hurts all the time. When I'm leaning forward to type on eye pad or walk with grand baby or just set on couch my neck feels compressed and like my neck can't support my head and very ache.
4943237 tn?1428991095 It started off as flashes of pain in my left arm so I upped the Gabapentin by another 600 mg and this seemed to do the trick for a few days. Now, 10 days later the pain is unbearable, with my back feeling like I've pulled all the muscles on the top left side and when I flex my neck forward it sends a bolt of pain down my back. I'm thinking that curling up and dying is a good option at the moment it's so bad.
Avatar f tn Gabapentin works for some people and not for others. Compression of a nerve or nerve root typically isn’t helped that much by medications unless the compression is relieved first. Medications can help ease pain but not numbness once the compression is relieved.
Avatar m tn They affect my balance, vision and on occasion my speech. I have noticed that the position of my head and neck may be connected to the onset of these pains. Can someone please give me some suggestions as to whats going on????
Avatar n tn My PCP referred me to a pain doc, who sent me for an MRI of my neck. Came back with 2 lesions on my spinal cord. He sent me for an MRI of my brain. That came back with a hyperintenstity in my right frontal lobe. So pain doc sent me to the neurologist. I had a full MRI of my spine, and then a panel of blood work to rule out things other than MS. Everything came back normal, except my vitamin D is a little low, I'm positive for ANA and my RNP antibodies are 2.9.
Avatar m tn My current symptoms are numbness in my face and fingers, severe scapular pain, constant chest tightness, shoulder and elbow pain and muscle spasm, and pain in the axilla. I also experience pins and needles sensations in these areas and have lost the ability to move my arm backwards. All this is occurring on my left side.
