Over the past three months I have been experiencing herpes like symptoms. So far I have taken three tests one at 4 weeks, one at 8 weeks, and one at 12 weeks. All tests have come back negative. After taking my first test at 4 weeks my Dr. prescribed me Gabapentin for the symptoms that I have been having and I have been taking it ever since. Would taking Gabapentin affect the results from my HSV tests?
What you describe is certainly consistent with herpes zoster (shingles) and there is little reason to worry that this might be herpes simplex (which is a different virus). Herpes zoster is not an STD but a reactivation of an infection (chicken pox) that you had as a child. This kind of nerve pain, called neuropathy is problematic and tends to get better over time.
There is no cure, and opiods are virtually useless for MOST neuropathies, not just herpes. The medication Neurontin (gabapentin) may be helpful. Get plenty of rest, drink lots of water, and eat well. Support your immune system as much as possible. And EDUCATE YOUR DOCTORS. If they're not suffering, they're not likely to just spontaneously look into it.
Your symptoms honestly don't sound like herpes to me. You've had experienced clinicians look at you and say it isn't herpes, which is really valuable.
Gabapentin is a big time medicine and sometimes there can be problematic side effects. I'm glad you are feeling better, but not sure how long you are going to take it.

Fast forward to 8/10 ,came off the gabapentin because I was pregnant. Pain was manageable off gabapentin. Just after 3rd trimester had another bout R sided SI joint pain, along with another outbreak ( I was still on suppressive tx). from this point forward, the deep pain at the pubic rami progressively worsened as the pregnancy progressed, and also had the groin pain that comes along with pregnancy. Had elective C-section due to concern with the vulvar pain.
I've had herpes for almost 30 years. I cannot recall the last time I had an outbreak, however, for the last several years I have had an mild perineal pain or irritation. Doctors have looked at all kinds of prostate and rectal issues with little conclusive result. Amitryptiline and gabapentin are effective at reducing the irritation. very few people take more than 6 months to seroconvert. you've had no symptoms that sound like herpes. herpes would not cause non-stop pain like this either.
Hi with nerve pain and herpes, its from Shingles not HSV and with shingles you would have a terrible rash, so i would not associate your pain with herpes at all but more of a back injury that can occur from having sex.
Some time ago I was diagnosed with genital herpes zoster (shingles). In years past, I might have one or rarely two outbreaks of herpes. Symptoms would be sharp pain in my penis culminating with a small amount of skin breaking. The whole episode might last 10 days minimum, three weeks max.

Hello, I am new to this group. I have had more than 85 blood tests since I was diagnosed with Lyme in July of 2014. All have been negative. I have been on may drugs for pain and currently on Gabapentin for vocal cord/coughing issues and leg pain (knee, calf, left side back). I don't think it is helping much. Is anyone else on Gabapentin?
Has anyone expierence swelling of the face with gabapentin? I know it can be a side effect. My question is; Is this an allergic reaction or is the dosage too much? Actually my face feels stiff at times and cheeks get sore. If it is the gabapentin, what would be the alternative? Thank you med help family........

I had an episode of burning on my forhead and cheeks and pins and needle feelings in which I started Gabapentin for. Over a 4 week period I gradually increased the dosage to what I am on now, 300mg three times daily. This seems to help greatly with the nerve pain but I started after 2 weeks to develop a very itchy neck, ear lobe, and face. My face sometimes looked like it was burned. Im just wondering if anyone has had this while taking Gabapentin.

Iv ad a BAD weekend and my sisters friend who has sufferd with fibro for 11 years, advised me try gabapentin as she swears by it making her much better. Has anybody tried this medication? she also says to use sea kelp?
Went to a new doctor today and he seems to feel the vicodene is no longer working so he had prescribed me gabapentin-100 mgs. three times a day. My concern now is withdrawing from the vocoden. doctor has suggested that I taper down to half a pill a week (of the vicodene). Of course I did not tell him how much I was taking of the vicodene.In searching this forum I have read different opions on the gabaperntin.

Hi has anyone been on gabapentin or heard of it before? I have had 3 discectomies on L4/L5 disc and now have tissue scarring leaving me with the same as before all my surgeries. I have been prescribed gabapentin this week for nerve damage in that area of my back. I am in first week on it and taking 600mg per day.
